Penric progresses to paper!
I just received the carton of my author's copies of Penric's Progress yesterday fresh from the printer, still a thrill after all these years. So it's officially Done. Very nice!
Coming January 7th (or thereabouts) to bookstores, ferex:
https://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/penr...
Uncle Hugo's here in Minneapolis will, as always, have signed copies in-store and mail order: http://www.unclehugo.com/prod/index.s...
Likewise Dreamhaven: http://dreamhavenbooks.com/
We won't catch pre-holiday sales, but I'm hoping for some of that after-boost, when folks go off to deploy their gift certificates or whatever.
It's going to be very interesting to find out just how much of a treebook-reading audience is left these days. It will be a tricky judgment call -- I've fallen out of the queue of the reliable book-a-year writers, so have lost brick-and-mortar bookstore shelf space just by the attrition of time. On the other hand, striking cover. On the other other hand, reprint collection. So many variables!

Ta, L. (Having my holiday surprises in January this year, apparently.)

Knife Children painting in full
Artist Ryan Pancoast has put up the full wrap painting he did for the Subterranean Press edition of "Knife Children", well worth a look. Very painterly!
https://www.ryanpancoast.com/2019/10/...
I am usually very wary of attempts to do portraits of my characters, but this one captures Barr and Lily well. Even inside my own head, there is a certain quantum fluctuation in how I picture characters, so "in spec", I think, is a good way to put it.
Official release date is February 29, 2020.

wiki work
The volunteer fan who has created the Vorkosigan Wiki reports a lot of new work done on the translations page --
https://vorkosigan.fandom.com/wiki/Tr...
The website owner would be delighted to hear suggestions about layout or other improvements, and even more so to learn of any corrections that need to be made. Also of any editions that might have been missed. A wiki by its nature is I believe supposed to be a group enterprise, sharing the load around.
Time, and way more technical expertise than I possess, was also spent recovering some of the old broken links on the interviews page.
https://vorkosigan.fandom.com/wiki/Au...
Feel free to wander over and take a look.

PW reviews Knife Children
Ooh, I see Subterranean Press's upcoming hardcover of "Knife Children" won a review in the major review magazine Publishers Weekly. Always a good thing, not least because librarians use it to guide their orders.
https://www.publishersweekly.com/978-...
SubPress's release is scheduled for the end of February --Groundhog Day! Woodchuck Month -- Feb. 29, 2020.
More here: https://subterraneanpress.com/knife-c...
I hope cover artist Ryan Pancoast puts an image of the full painting up on his website sometime that I can link -- it's a beautiful wrap cover, very painterly as they say in the trade.

(A reminder for new readers, this novella works fine read as a stand-alone, although it will inevitably contain spoilers for the prior tetralogy.)

more Progress at Baen
I see the Penric's Progress eARC has gone up at Baen. The paper edition will be out January 7th, 2020.
https://www.baen.com/penric-s-progres...
Paper book pre-orders are a good thing, as publishers set their print runs in part by them.
https://www.amazon.com/Penrics-Progre... as an example, although your other favorite bookstores and vendors should have or be able to get it for you as well.

Penric's Travels cover sneak peek
We are way beforehand with this one, but it will be the cover for the second Penric & Desdemona novella collection later next spring, 2020. To contain "Penric's Mission", "Mira's Last Dance", and "The Prisoner of Limnos."

Art, again, by Dan Dos Santos,

His website gives a really good overview of his style/s.

more insight on Penric's Progress cover
Aha. Don Dos Santos has done a little piece on the progress of Penric (or at least his cover.)
http://www.muddycolors.com/2019/09/pe...
As is not unusual, what goes on behind the scenes is not necessarily what one might construe. Always interesting to get a glimpse into process.
I rather like those first two sketches, although I have no idea what the bloody knife is about in the one. There will be a second volume later in 2020, to be titled Penric's Travels and containing "Penric's Mission", "Mira's Last Dance", and "The Prisoner of Limnos", so there's a chance for another go on the puzzle of portraying Penric (and the invisible Desdemona.)

Penric's Progress 3-novella collection on paper
So, the first three-novella collection on paper of the Penric tales, Penric's Progress, is now scheduled for a January 7, 2020 release by Baen Books.
Stories included are "Penric's Demon", "Penric and the Shaman", and "Penric's Fox".
Pre-orders now available in all the usual places, including Amazon and B&N, and your local bookstores and mine. (As usual, Uncle Hugo's and Dreamhaven will have signed copies available for mail order, in due course.)
ferex: https://www.amazon.com/Penrics-Progre...
Some fans have been begging for the stories in a paper edition ever since their first e-book release; so, here you go. (And now we'll see how many you really are...)
The second collection of 3, to be titled Penric's Travels, is scheduled by Baen for next May.

Also, the pretty Subterranean Press edition of "Knife Children", due out next February, is up for pre-order at SubPress, here: https://subterraneanpress.com/knife-c...
One of the reasons "The Flowers of Vashnoi" was sold out on release was that the pre-orders were modest, and so the print run was adjusted accordingly. When a bunch of last-minute extra orders came in (mainly from online vendors, I gather, which I translate to "Amazon", who is now sold out btw), it was Too Late. SubPress's (careful and successful, for a small press) business model is for one limited printing and that's it. So you may want to get your orders in early, "while supplies last" as they say.
Though I do see SubPress still has some of the leatherbound "Flowers" available. And Uncle Hugo's and Dreamhaven bookstores here in Minneapolis still have stocks of the trade edition, signed.
