Sara Lindsey's Nine Rules of Which to Be Wary When Crafting a Query

Ok, this one is pretty awesome.  If you're sitting at home (or at work) and dreaming of a book contract, the incredible Sara Lindsey, author of Promise Me Tonight (a must read for anyone who loves romances starring old friends) and the upcoming Tempting the Marquess (which I cannot wait for!), is about to give you an amazing look at the query that secured her an agent!
Nine Rules of Which to be Wary When Crafting a Query: (Extra points for the rhyme!)
By and large, this is the query letter I...

Operation Teen Book Drop!

Oh, it's on, y'all.

Today is Operation Teen Book Drop--one of my favorite days of the year...thousands of librarians, authors and teens will be leaving YA titles in places around their community to share their love of the genre.

I've got a sack of books ready for empty subway seats, park benches, SoHo coffee shops and more.  If you have a YA title in your house that you are willing to share, go to the TBD Website to download a bookplate or a bookmark, and be a part of Teen Book Drop!

Teen Book...

Carrie Ryan's Nine Rules for Surviving the Zombie Apocalypse

There are few things better in the world than a great writing group. I'm lucky enough to have one of these--and even luckier to have one that includes the fabulous Carrie Ryan! Carrie is the author of the mind-blowing New York Times Bestseller, The Forest of Hands and Teeth , a post-apocolyptic YA novel that burst onto the scene last spring, and it's companion, The Dead-Tossed Waves , which was released last month. (If you're one of the thirteen people who has not yet read Forest, make sure to...

Juliana Stone's Nine Rules For Romancing a Jaguar Warrior!

Ok. I've said before that I've recently fallen in love with shape-shifters. So, I have been super duper excited about Juliana Stone's Darkest series, beginning with His Darkest Hunger (which was released along with Nine Rules... in March), and followed by His Darkest Embrace (November 2010) and His Darkest Salvation (Spring 2011). For multiple reasons, including:
1) The hero, Jaxon, is a jaguar shifter. WHAT?!?! Oh, yes. Please. Immediately.
2) The cover. Are you KIDDING me?! and
3) Juliana i...

Miranda Neville's Nine Rules for Retaining Your Reputation and Virtue

Miranda Neville is fabulous.  If it weren't enough that she writes fantastically sexy romances (the most recent, The Wild Marquis , is yummy), she also has this lovely British accent that makes listening to her read an utter pleasure.  It's not so much a pleasure when you're scheduled to read after her at, oh, I don't know, Lady Jane's Salon, and when, say, your husband tells you that you're pretty much not going to be able to compete with her so don't even try. Of course, then Miranda's perfe...

Sophie Jordan's Nine Rules to Guarantee a Scandal

There are few things cooler than meeting an author who you've been fangirly over for years.  For a voracious romance reader and newly debuted romance author, about the only thing cooler than that is when you actually meet that author--and she is cooler than you'd ever imagine.

That's how it went with Sophie Jordan. We met (with Tera Lynn Childs) at a burger joint in midtown for what she had heard was the perfect New York burger -- I'll let her tell you whether it was (but next time she comes, ...

Sabrina Darby's Nine Rules for Conducting an Assignation

Why not come with me on a trip down memory lane?

It's July 2009, and I'm at my first RWA conference.  Now, for those of you who have never been to RWA nationals, let's just say, these conferences are incredibly overwhelming.  When you're not squeeing because you happen to be sitting next to Stephanie Laurens or flipping out because you are *this* close to Susan Elizabeth Phillips, you're basically just trying not to look like you have no idea what you're doing.  Which, of course, you don't.

But...

First Paragraph...on the iPad!

Last night, Eric and I went to a super fun party with our friend Justin, who arrived at the party with his new toy, the iPad. Of course, the second I got it into my hands, I downloaded the iBooks application and  searched for Nine Rules... which was there (I suppose I should have expected this, but it still made me squee)! Then, because I was operating on Justin's wallet, I downloaded it (screenshot below!!).  So, yes, my fabulous friend Justin's first ebook on his iPad is Nine Rules!!  Yay! ...

Victoria Alexander's Nine Rules for Starting Over

I'm thrilled to host the fabulous Victoria Alexander today on the blog...when she agreed to share her Nine Rules for the heroine of her latest novel, Desires of a Perfect Lady (out on Tuesday!), I had a complete fangirl moment...I mean, who wouldn't?!  I'm so happy that she took some time to come over!
In Desires of a Perfect Lady, Olivia Rathbourne has a list of secret hopes and desires that sustain her through the years of an awful marriage. But now that she's free, it's time to start her...
