Createspace

175 paperback copies of “Baqash” and “October Falling” have passed through my hands. Yet every time I get a box of books in, I feel giddy like a little boy receiving a prized toy. I’m always sad when the last copy leaves. 

Sometimes I wonder what it would be like to work at a Print-On-Demand service like Createspace. What is it like to take a stack of books and pack it into a box? Knowing that lives will be changed by the very contents? 

What would it be like to work there and see your own book as it rolls off of the press? I know each job has its difficulties and struggles. Would being a book worm, working at a press, be such a bad thing? Isn’t that akin to a wine tester? 

Stop for a moment or two. Pick up a fresh copy and just flip through a couple of pages. Smell the freshness as the leaves of the book breathe a kiss onto your face. 

Darash Update

Thursday, Friday, and Saturday I got back to writing “Darash”. About 7,000 more words typed. It’s so nice getting back to writing. 

So far the book is 17 chapters long, 42,000 words and 170 pages. The goal is 120,000 words and 480 pages. 

In Darash we follow Carter and Janalee, Patricia and Nathan, as well as Terry and Maxwel. We’ve met them in “Baqash”. Four new characters have been added: Carl, Garven, Emily, and “The Marksman”.  

 “The Marksman”, he calls himself this, was inspired by Phillis H. She said to me, “C, you need to have a marksman in this book.” And indeed he is in there, in fact he plays a pivotal role in the book.

Faithful Man

Every so often, I encounter a Scripture that captures my attention and I have to stop and ponder its meaning. For the past month this is the Word that has gripped my soul.

A faithful man will abound with blessings, But he who makes haste to be rich will not go unpunished. – Proverbs 28:20

“Emuwnah”, Hebrew for “faithful” is also translated as: firmness, fidelity, steadfastness, steadiness (Strongs H530). If we re-read it as “A steadfast man…” the meaning becomes more interesting. It makes me think of a person who is steadfast in the Lord, firm and reliable.

“But he who makes haste” in the original language is “uwts uwts”: to press, be pressed, make haste, urge, be narrow (Strongs H214). This makes me think of a person who will stop at nothing to get money…haste – haste. “I need my money, now!”

“Will not go unpunished” is “naqah naqah”: to be empty, be clear, be pure, be free, be innocent, be desolate, be cut off (Strongs H5352). Does it mean to “be desolate and cut off” from God?

I wonder at the words “blessing” and “riches”. God gives blessings, but man seeks riches. What is the difference between blessings and riches? Bĕrakah and ashar?
