“Written in Blood” by Nathan Bush
Each month I am going to try to write a review on a book that was written by a Christian Self-Published Author. Today’s review is about the novel “Written in Blood” by Nathan Bush.
Nathan’s freshman effort went well, the story is great. “Written” is a first person tale presented from two different persons with a narrator overtone, which is difficult to pull off. He accomplished this feat with aplomb.
The grammar and spelling are rough, Nathan is a self-published author on a tight budget like many of us, but not so terrible as to draw you away from the story.
The story keeps you wondering what will happen next. Keeping a reader guessing is always a good thing.
Character development was great, they are real people with real lives. Not that fake super-duper Hollywood over-the-top style. I look forward to learning more about the characters in his stories.
He wraps Scripture into the novel and the Plan of Salvation.
This is the first crime novel I’ve ever read. I’m more of a science fiction, fantasy, and/or Scripture kind of guy. I do, however, love “Columbo”, “NCIS”, and “Adam-12”. With that said, I look forward to his upcoming works. As he develops his craft, I am certain the narrative and execution will become better and more fascinating.
The only negative I have is that the pace of the story is slower than I am accustomed to reading.

October Falling at Amazon
Yesterday, 69 copies of O.F. were sold through Amazon. 3 copies went to Canada and one to the U. K. This morning a copy went to someone in France. On previous days many copies have gone to friends in Australia.
Today I awoke to find O. F. ranked 1st in Futuristic and 3rd in Sci-Fi. It is ranked #1,569 among all Free Kindle eBooks.
Your likes and shares are helping get the word out. You all are a blessing to me and this ministry. My many thanks for your inspiration and help.
God is amazing.

Wednesday Update
Saturday we took a trip up to La Salle, IL. Met a fellow believer at a Mongolian place and gave her a copy of October Falling to share among friends. She seemed excited, so sorry I didn’t catch her name to pray for her.
I also dropped off a copy of Baqash and O. F. at the public library.
Our daughter (10 months old) made friends at Lock 16 (the Coffee there is great). She makes friends everywhere she goes. And loves pointing at things. She picked out her first Christmas ornament. We are so blessed with a fun babygirl.
Oh and to mess with my readers, here’s a rough map of where Sarah traveled.

Wasting Time
He who tills his land will have plenty of bread, But he who pursues worthless things lacks sense. – Proverbs 12:11
Not many know, but I had a video game addiction. Monday through Friday I’d come home from work and play for four hours a night. On Saturday and Sunday I’d play 12 hours each. I sit here typing and wondering, what did I gain from my 48 hour per week addiction? Nothing.
I gamed for 10 years or so. 24,900 hours I spent in a chair, staring at a computer screen, playing some dumb game. That’s 1,556 sixteen hour days or about 4 years and three months of my life, wasted.
Thankfully I’ve learned to make the most of my time. I figure that with every waking moment of my day I need to be seeking God, finding a way to promote His Will in this world, earning my wages, or enjoying my family.
All else is a waste. Yes, I get some downtime and watch NCIS or Code Black with my wife, but I monitor that time spent.
I’m supposed to lead my family – can’t do while staring at a screen playing some dumb game that gets me nowhere.

Just a Question
What if we saught Him to give us a story to tell?
Many of you have read my stories. For each of them I have saught Him out for inspiration.
Don’t dismiss yourself, for you have a story as well. You needn’t paper or pen to do it, just be yourself. Share.
Perhaps someone out there needs to hear your story and how God helped you through.
Your story, your life, can change another person’s life for the better.

Book 3
Beginning research for book 3. I need insight into Jewish culture. Anyone know of any really good books? I want to write Mattithyahu correctly.

Darash Research
I always enjoy researching the Scriptures for my blog and books. Tonight I found a wonderful gem, one I’m certain I’ve read so many times before. But for tonight, it is my favorite:
Hear my cry, O God; Give heed to my prayer. From the end of the earth I call to You when my heart is faint; Lead me to the rock that is higher than I. For You have been a refuge for me, A tower of strength against the enemy. Let me dwell in Your tent forever;
Let me take refuge in the shelter of Your wings. Selah. Psalms 61:1-4
I love putting Scripture directly into my fictional novels. My character Emily found this one in a most desperate time of need. I know that I’ve been in need of it myself.
Have a blessed day

Water Walker
“Peter said to Him, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.” And He said, “Come!” And Peter got out of the boat, and walked on the water and came toward Jesus.” – Matthew 14:28-29
“God provides for His command,” is written in the margin of my Bible right above this Scripture. Such a short, but powerful, sentence.
First I think it is appropriate to ask. We need to know if our desires are from God or our selfish ambition. Certainly, through the waves and windy air, Peter may not have recognized Jesus and wanted confirmation that the form out on the water was Him. But I wonder if this doesn’t tie in with “seek, knock, and ask” from Matthew 7:7.
I don’t think Peter stopped for a moment and asked himself how impossible his request was. He had a desire and wanted it fulfilled.
Perhaps we should say, “God, ‘this’ is my desire, if it is Your will for me to do so, command me, I trust you.”
All Jesus said was “come” and Peter was given the ability to do the impossible.
Pretty cool eh? Peter sought, asked, and walked on water.
