Cry Unto God

In trying times, we must remember that God is there for us. And if we are not the ones under trial, we must help lift the burdens of our neighbors. That is how we share God’s love.

Hear, O Lord, when I cry with my voice,And be gracious to me and answer me. When You said, “Seek My face,” my heart said to You, “Your face, O Lord, I shall seek.” Do not hide Your face from me, Do not turn Your servant away in anger; You have been my help; Do not abandon me nor forsake me, O God of my salvation! For my father and my mother have forsaken me, But the Lord will take me up. Psalm 27:7-10

Fire Kit

Today we take a look at my Fire Kit. As with all the things we do in life, we must study, practice, and modify what we do based upon what works best for us. Here is just one example of a fire building kit. https://youtu.be/Kt3lvq909M8

BOB

Bug Out Bag – BOB. We’ve decided that over the next few months we are going to start developing a BOB. Living in N. W. Indiana we are faced with the chance of tornados and power outages.

It’s better to have a bag ready, sitting by the door, than to have to scramble at the last second trying to put something together. We’re not looking at living the rest of our lives off of this kit. It’s just something to tide us by over a few days time in a shelter or at a friends house.

So… once a week, we pick up a single $5 item from Walmart to add to the kit. We have a lot of the gear already since we go hiking and camping. All we have to do is add to that.

Earlier this week I took K on a daddy-daughter day to Champaign. We discovered that the Surplus store is moving and the military gear is 75% off. The backpack featured here cost $17 brand new. I think it’s in the 60 liter range, has tons of pockets, and is made to be durable.

Zeteo Update

During the months of November, December, and January very few plot lines came to mind as the family was on/off sick and we were preparing for our newest bundle of joy: Zoe.

Our beautiful little daughter was born February 2nd. I’ve taken the entire month of February off from work to enjoy my ladies: Mrs., K (2yrs old), and Zoe. How often will I be able to take 20 vacation days in a row to enjoy my family? God has blessed me with a beautiful wife and two amazing daughters.

As for Zeteo (Baqash Book 4) I’ve been able to write a chapter a day, six days a week. 4 a. m. is a nice, quiet time. So far I’ve written 14 chapters and the prequel. Almost 30% done on the rough draft.

What can I say about Zeteo? Hold onto your hats. If you thought the other books were fast…wait until you get your hands on this one!

We see the activities of a Jewish version of the “Maquis” rise up against Apophis and the Enforcers, Carter and his family go on a scouting mission in Iran, and Maxwel and Terry are off to blow up bridges to slow down the gentiles advance upon Israel!

There’s a lot of action packed suspense!

Rocket Stove, Second Try

The first time I tried the rocket stove, it died after 20 minutes. This time I stacked it differently and kept the feed tube half full of sticks. The upshot of this stove is that the air can only come in from one side. Turn the side tube into the wind to build (or re-stoke) the fire or away to keep strong winds from blowing it out.

Today it was 30 degrees Fahrenheit and fairly windy. I set up in our screened-in converted gazebo. Then, I packed my Toaks 1600 ml titanium cook pot with snow and put it on the stove.

After 10 minutes, the snow had melted, and after 18 minutes the water was almost at a rolling boil. The 1600 ml of snow became 20 oz of water ready for a packet of instant coffee.

The main part of the stove was made from a can of pineapple juice, the side tube came from a can of chili beans.

The bonus of these stoves is how little wood it takes to cook a meal.

Next time, I’m going to make a wood-gasifier (ranger) stove.

To prepare the sticks and limbs which we’ve collected from around the yard, I used a CRKT M21-SF14 folding knife, Fiskars X7 hatchet, and Mechanix gloves. I was able to feather the wood and make thin shavings using the hatchet. I also used a ferro rod, fatwood, and vaseline-lint ball to start the fire.

The worldwide earthquake has destroyed almost everything, especially hope. World leaders acquiesced to a united currency. What what will happen to those that refuse to take the Mark? How will they survive?

Notes

Whenever I visit Phyllis H. She always has her Bible out and a paper full of her notes. Her handwriting is terribly small and impeccably neat. What a neat idea! Plus, what we right down, we tend to memorize easier.

My handwriting is terrible and huge. But, I wanted to write down Scripture which means a lot to me and might be able to help in a crisis.

So, I picked up a 4 pack of these “The Indestructible Field Book”. My bride picked me up an amazing pen by Atomic Bear which uses Fisher Space Pen refills.

“Indestructible”, perhaps I should hand one over to our daughter to test it, lol. However, it is made of some kind of plastic “paper”, writes well enough, and I wasn’t able to tear a page with my fingers. A good place to keep Scriptures close to the heart.

Rocket Stove

I’m going to start up a new section on survival. Because of the book series (research) and our love of hiking/camping we’re looking at alternative, more self-reliant means of living. I think the U. S. Has become too dependent upon the things they can buy at Walmart, i. e.: gas canisters, pre-made fire starters, etc.

What if we lived with only what we needed to survive in life? Would we have more resources and time to share with others? Would we spend money and time fixing the materialistic things in life? What if our dishwasher broke down? What if we didn’t have one in the first place?

Anyway…

Here is our first, super simple, rocket stove. I tried it out Christmas Day. We didn’t pack it with a lot of wood and didn’t try a boil test. Winds were gusting and it was 20f outside. Still, I was able to get it started using some fatwood, kindling, and a Vaseline soaked lint ball.

Preparedness

This one Scripture keeps coming back to me, over and over again.

Those who were rebuilding the wall and those who carried burdens took their load with one hand doing the work and the other holding a weapon. As for the builders, each wore his sword girded at his side as he built, while the trumpeter stood near me. – Nehemiah 4:17-18

The people were rebuilding Jerusalem and the Temple. But I feel there’s more to the message than this mere fact.

God’s people were working, prepared for physical battle with the enemy, should they strike.

I believe we are also called to be spiritually prepared for battle against the enemy; because they will strike.

Lastly, I believe we’ve entered a time when many have become comfortable in the world and are focused on earthly pleasures rather than on loving God, loving others, and serving the world.

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might. Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore, take up the full armor of God, so that you will be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm. Stand firm therefore, having girded your loins with truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; in addition to all, taking up the shield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. – Ephesians 6:10-18
