Sabbath

Crazy busy times. Too much to do and too little time. I try to spend an hour a day with each of my ladies above all things.

Phyllis tells me that I’m burning the candle at both ends and in the middle:

– YouTube Channel

– Blog

– Novels I’m writing (albeit slowly right now)

– Studying for my HAM license so that I can use my technical abilities in the midst of a natural disaster (because I’d make a horrible nurse)

– Looking down the road to where I should lead my family in volunteering. Because we’re not going to be attached to dvds, video games, and trolling social media. We’re going to develop skills specifically designed for helping others

– The jail ministry. Weeping for victims and the incarcerated.

– Studying the Word

– Reading two amazing books to help me raise daughters

– Reading books to help me understand marriage

– Teasing my wife

– Mowing the lawn

– Etc, etc, and etc.

Now to Scripture:

Jesus said to them, “The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath. So the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath.” – Mark 2:27-28

It’s time to make Sabbath mandatory in my life and weed out all of the unnecessary stuff I do. Phew. So glad for our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

The Condition of Our Heart

The Bible gives us quite a few means with which to measure ourselves by. Sometimes they are guideposts of what not to be like. Other times they show us how we should act.

Like an earthen vessel overlaid with silver dross Are burning lips and a wicked heart. He who hates disguises it with his lips, But he lays up deceit in his heart. When he speaks graciously, do not believe him, For there are seven abominations in his heart. Though his hatred covers itself with guile, His wickedness will be revealed before the assembly. – Proverbs 26: 23-26

We need to look into our own hearts and ask God to reveal to us if we act in this manner.

However, we also need to look into the following Scripture and ask God to help us act more like this:

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. – Galatians 5:22-23

Lastly, these Scriptures (and many more listed in the Word) help us to discern where others are in their walk with God so that we can interact and pray for them more effectively.

Generational Prayer

Jesus prayed a generational prayer for us. One that doesn’t pass down by genealogy; but by His Word and Spirit. Jesus prays to our Father:

John 17:-13-21

“But now I come to You; and these things I speak in the world so that they may have My joy made full in themselves. I have given them Your word; and the world has hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. I do not ask You to take them out of the world, but to keep them from the evil one. They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. Sanctify them in the truth; Your word is truth. As You sent Me into the world, I also have sent them into the world. For their sakes I sanctify Myself, that they themselves also may be sanctified in truth.”

Everything that Jesus, the Word of God says, is amazing. But focus in on this last part (italics are mine):

“I do not ask on behalf of these alone, but for those also who believe in Me through their word; that they may all be one; even as You, Father, are in Me and I in You, that they also may be in Us, so that the world may believe that You sent Me.”

The Word is passed down from you to me. From those who have told us of God’s amazing glory and those we will tell. Isn’t this such an amazing blessing that Jesus prayed for us in this way?

Futuristic/Suspense

The worldwide earthquake has destroyed almost everything, especially hope. World leaders acquiesced to a united currency. What what will happen to those that refuse to take the Mark? How will they survive?

Our Future

Sometimes we forget where we are headed. Sometimes we settle for the second-best that this world offers, become content with with it, and forget to seek God. Other times we are not fascinated with the things of this current, short lived, world and do not have an eternal focus. Here is Jesus’ promise to His followers:

“Do not let your heart be troubled; believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you. If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also. And you know the way where I am going.” John 14:1-4

And…

Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth passed away, and there is no longer any sea. And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, made ready as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne, saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is among men, and He will dwell among them, and they shall be His people, and God Himself will be among them, and He will wipe away every tear from their eyes; and there will no longer be any death; there will no longer be any mourning, or crying, or pain; the first things have passed away.” – Revelation 21:1-4

Sometimes we feel so downtrodden that we forget to look up to our magnificent Savior, Father, and Holy Spirit. What would be more awesome than living side by side with God without the stain of sin?

Wisdom

How blessed is the man who finds wisdom And the man who gains understanding. For her profit is better than the profit of silver And her gain better than fine gold. She is more precious than jewels; And nothing you desire compares with her. – Proverbs 3:13-5

God’s wisdom, not man’s wisdom, is the greatest wisdom of all.

But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. – James 3:17 (NIV)

The wisdom I speak of is the wisdom of the one who created heaven and earth, the stars and moon, and you and I. The Wisdom of God the Father, the Son Jesus, and the Holy Spirit.

But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him. – James 1:5
