If your calendar’s not already maxed out with long weekend hangs with friends and fam and all the fab July fests and events happening around town, check out my 24 discoveries from A to Z. Bonus: This week’s edition is cake heavy. Sadly, the uptick in closures continue.

Stay tuned. More news ahead in The Tip Off, exclusively available in the TR Newsletter.

In the meantime, here’s the very latest:

OPEN

Travel plans on hold? A staycation at the new Ace Hotel (51 Camden St.) in the Garment District might suffice. Canada’s first for the brand boasts 123 rooms and clean lines by Toronto’s own  Shim-Sutcliffe Architects, In terms of dining, TR Newsletter subscribers got the scoop back in March that chef Patrick Kriss of award-winning Alo Restaurant, AloetteAlobar Yorkville, and Salon will be running the day-to-day kitchen operations of Lobby and signature restaurant Alder, the latter set to open August 9.

Gourmet soft baked cookies can be yours starting Saturday at noon at Andrea’s Cookies in High Park (1632 Bloor St. W.).

Volcanos and cupcakes have arrived at Dufferin Mall’s food court (900 Dufferin St.) courtesy of April Sweets. What’s a volcano, you ask? Take AS’s Belgian Chocolate selection for example: A dome-shaped soft chocolate chiffon cake filled with Belgian chocolate cream with chocolate crumbs and covered with shredded chocolate. (Aren’t you glad you inquired?) p.s. Go soon: Grand opening BOGO sale is on now. Details in-store.

It’s widely known some of the city’s best restaurants are in strip malls. Gou Bu Li’s Bao Express (7080 Warden Ave., Unit 4B) in Markham may be the most striking in an understated modern way, thanks to Canada’s own StudioAC.

Hidden destinations are all the rage these days. Look for cocktail lounge Capone’s Cocktail Lounge. in the basement of Lithuanian House Banquet Halls (573 Bloor St. W.), featuring a lineup of diverse live music and entertainment in the city’s west end. Doors opened February 11.

Psst. Casa Manila Express (508 Danforth Ave.) softly opens in the heart of Greektown tomorrow. Marking the second location for  the renowned Filipino eatery that debuted on York Mills in December 2010, the Danforth location will have all the iconic favourites you know and love including kamayan and halo halo.

After touching down in the lower east side last winter, Cha Miao brings its array of signature bevvies (e Mango Pomelo Coconut Slush, Lychee Tea Enzyme, Red Bean Milk Tea) to Juzz Sushi’s former digs* (912 Queen St. E.)  in Leslieville. *For JS’s new location, see the July 14-20 OPEN/CLOSED.

Coco Café (936 Queen St. W.) opened when it was still cold out, so it’s flown under the radar. Until now. The converted shed at the corner of Queen and Shaw is home to all your daily essentials: Propeller coffee, pastries, and doubles.

If you’re in the ‘Bigger is better’ camp, Footlong Freakk Fries is for you. The elongated spuds come in a variety of savoury flavours (Butter Chicken, Chipotle Mayo, Garlic Parmesan, Ranch and Bacon, Sour Cream and Cheese) and chocolate. Find the potato phenomenon at Street Eats Market in Scarborough (500 Progress Ave.).

“Japanese Korean fusion” can mean a myriad of things. For Cabbagetown South’s Ju Sushi And Bar (383 Dundas St. E.), it translates to Rice Cake Skewers, Pork Belly Salad, Bulgogi Wrap, Miso Carbonara Pasta, and Kimchi Tomato Mussel Stew. Bonus: The pink patio serves as a pretty backdrop in IRL and on IG.

ICYMI: Extreme snacks are taking over the 6ix. The latest arrival: B.C.’s Lucky's Exotic Bodega at Dundas and Ossington (213 Ossington Ave.), currently in soft launch, with grand opening tomorrow.

Mississauga Mayor Bonnie Crombie welcomed Egyptian seafood restaurant Mermaid Fish and Grill House (4700 Ridgeway Dr., Unit 72) back to Mississauga on Tuesday, following a soft open on June 29.

The grand opening for Minerva Tiffins’ new digs at Scarborough’s big box/movie plaza Eglinton Town Centre (16 Lebovic Ave.) took place July 17. Fun fact: The Indian breakfast destination didn’t have to go far. Previous address: 41 Lebovic Ave.

Mofu ain’t no ordinary bakery. Their cakes in cans are just the beginning. Check out the new location at Skycity Shopping Centre in Scarborough (3262 Midland Ave., Unit E112) and original in J-Town (3160 Steeles Ave. E., Unit 9) in Markham.

Crescent-shaped pastries and java are what’s up at Jane and St. Clair’s Monte Croissants (2566 St Clair Ave. W., Unit 2. Entrance on Batavia Ave.).

Mississauga’s Heartland Town Centre  (6045 Mavis Rd.) is now home to Mr. Puffs. The Quebec bakery chain’s speciality? Hot, puffy bites similar to loukoumades, with the option of glaze-filled syringes and variety of ice cream treats including rolled and dipped cones, milkshakes and chocolate bar-studded Twisters.

After closing up shop downtown earlier this year, Pablo Cheese Tart launches its Markham outpost  (5990-16th Ave., Unit 216)  tomorrow at noon. Pro tip: Get there early. The first 50 customers receive special offers with purchase.

You’ll need multiple trips to Phở Nón Lá (1881 Steeles Ave. W., Unit 5) at Dufferin and Steeles to get through the extensive menu of +140 items.

Since its inception in 2008, local Neapolitan pizza chain Pizzeria Libretto has been solely a downtown affair. The latest foray above Sheppard (5000 Yonge St.) gives North Yorkers a taste without the commute.

A “live music experience of epic proportion” is opening in the Entertainment District  just in time for the long weekend. Radio debuts tomorrow above The Ballroom (145 John St.). $10 cover + HST. Doors open at 10pm, the Kirt Godwin Trio hits the stage at 11pm.

The “home base for elite gourmet burgers,” aka Toronto chain Top Gun Burgers, just landed in The Annex (490 Bloor St. W.). Doors open tomorrow.

Summer patio pop-up The Spritz Garden at Vela (90 Portland St.) boasts seafood tapas (Nordic Shrimp Roll $15, Chilled 1/2 Lobster Tail $22, Seafood Platter $85) dessert (Halo Halo $9, Banana Pudding $9), and sippers by way of spritzes, slushies, and other libations.

Yokai Izakaya (3175 Rutherford Rd., Unit 28) opens to the public on Wednesday. What to expect at the high energy contemporary Japanese resto and bar in Vaughan? “Spirit-forward drinks and delectable bites.”

Gourmet halal burgers are the focus at Etobicoke’s Zula (225 The East Mall). The Truffle Crunch, for example, boasts double decker 10 oz beef patties stacked with cheddar, roasted mushrooms, lettuce, fried onion crumbles and truffle mayo on a sesame seed bun. Up next: Wood fired pizzas.

CLOSED

Chieff Bosompra’s wildly successful Aunty Lucy’s may be checking out of The Annex Hotel (296 Brunswick Ave,) at the end of next month, but will luckily live on in pop-up form.

BLCK. (383 Dundas St. E.) launched right before the pandemic.

Burger Tribe (490 Bloor St. W.) moved into The Annex earlier this year. The new occupant will also be doling out burgers. See above for details.

York’s Casa Portuguesa (682 Caledonia Rd.) has come to an end.

Crepe T.O. (52 Church St.) opened at King and Church November 2016. The sign is down and doors have closed for good.

After a decade in Parkdale, the OG Glory Hole Doughnuts (1596 Queen St W.) is on the move. You’ve got until August 5 to get your hands on these sweet treats on the west side. To tide you over until the new location (stay tuned for deets), head to the east side HQ in Gerrard India Bazaar (1505 Gerrard St. E.).

King Grocery (7 King St. E.) outside King Station was mighty convenient.

Adiós Mambo Lounge. The Cuban destination debuted at Broadview and Danforth (120 Danforth Ave.) in 2006. Closed for much of the pandemic, it’s about to become a medical/dental office.

Head’s up, Mercado Negro (1370 St Clair Ave .W.) will close its doors in Corso Italia after service August 19. p.s. Don’t panic, a new iteration is on the way.

Mermaid Fish and Grill House’s Yonge & St. Clair outpost (44 St. Clair Ave. E.) closed and the end of May. For the new location, see above.

Ossington Canteen (217 Ossington Ave.) debuted this spring with three ventures by local chefs: Gertie’s, Pies by Squires, and Republic of Tacos. Doors closed earlier this week.

My iconic OPEN/CLOSED is THE most comprehensive resource of restaurant openings – virtual, brick-and-mortar, pop-ups, allll the things - and food/drink news in the city. No one does it bigger or better. Watch for the drop every Thursday. #ifyouknowyouknow

Think there’s not much going on? Think again.

Keeping a close eye on what’s been transpiring as always, I knew this week’s discoveries would be bustling. What I didn’t expect, was how frenzied it would be. (Things usually ease up a bit at this time of year due to weather, vacations, etc.) And it’s not just arrivals either. As predicted, the closures are coming fast and furious as well.

Events are off the charts too. I’ve made numerous additions and updates to the already jam-packed July Fests + Events Calendar, and have been hard at work on the August edition (dropping soon), which is just as voluminous, if not even more extensive.

And stay tuned – big news ahead in The Tip Off, exclusively available in the TR Newsletter

In the meantime, here’s the very latest:

OPEN

Bar 6ix Sports + Wings was all set to launch out front of Square One, (201 City Centre Dr.) a few weeks ago, when life had other plans. Doors opened - for real this time - on Saturday.

Bubble tea chain Chatime’s rapid expansion continues with an outpost in Richmond Hill (10909 Yonge St.). Bonus: Fri-Sun, enjoy a BOGO of Grass Jelly Roasted Milk Tea, Mango Green Tea, or QQ Lychee at the Upper Yonge location. Conditions apply.

CoCo Fresh Tea & Juice is in perpetual motion. The global bubble tea brand with more than 5,000 stores worldwide has softly opened two locations: Dorval Crossing in Oakville (230 N Service Rd. W., Unit 8) and Mississauga (888 Dundas St. E., Unit K3A). At the latter, enjoy 15 per cent off all drinks until August 31. Conditions apply.

With scorching temps like these, ice cream is practically a must. Luckily, Cool Licks D-Lite just opened at King and Niagara (789 King St. W.). Naturally, TR Newsletter subscribers were the first to know.

You’d think a lengthy rest period would be required after launching a diner three months ago, and reopening your beachside location for the season. Scarborough’s Curbside Dogs doesn’t agree. Dog Fish Bar & Grill‘s (7 Brimley Rd. S.) name may remain, but it’s all CD in the kitchen.

There’s no having to choose between burgers and shawarma at Queen and Bathurst’s new Doner Box (669 Queen St. W.). Grand opening festivities took place last week.

Fern Colavecchia and Tony Visca’s flagship DoughBox Wood Fired Pizza may be located in Hamilton, but the 6ix has been getting in on the fun this last while. Most recently: Port Credit (230 Lakeshore Rd. E.).

TR Newsletter subscribers got advance notice. For those just catching up: From the team behind The Black Pony Cafe (1481 Gerrard St. E.) in
Gerrard India Bazaar comes Golden Pigeon (424 Parliament St.).
Cabbagetown‘s newest occupant delivers fun beer hall vibes via pub classics,
German grub (Schnitzel Dinner, Baked Spaetzel Mac n’ Cheese), a curated
selection of bevvies, and host of games including skee-ball, arcade games,
darts and shuffleboard. Doors opened Tuesday.

The croissant craze shows no signs of slowing down. Neither does Hazukido. The chain’s fresh croissants inspired by Europe and Japan and other baked goods have been making their way across the 6ix via new shops throughout the pandemic. Psst. Grand opening for the Yorkville branch at Bay and Bloor (1200 Bay St.) take place Saturday and Sunday starting at 10am. Free Stuff Alert: Box of three croissants (Butter Garlic, Dark Chocolate, Honeycomb), swag bag, and keychain will be given out to the first 30 customers. The next 50 will receive a free drink (Yashima Brown Sugar Bubble Milk Tea or Peach Sparkling Refresher), swag bag, and keychain. Conditions apply.

The fifth Hibachi Teppanyaki & Bar has touched down in Scarborough (430 Progress Ave.).

Jian Bing Club’s Richmond Hill outpost (10650 Leslie St.). This marks the third location in the GTA for the Chinese street food chain and fourth overall (Brisbane, Australia).

Tuesday was the first day for Jin Shabu Shabu’s new Korean hot pot and iron plate eatery at Markham’s Commerce Gate (505 Highway 7, Unit 98-99). Did you know? The brand began with Jin Korean Noodles in 2020.

TR Newsletter subscribers got word back in May that Paradise Grapevine was opening a second location. Paradise Grapevine Winery (218 Geary Ave.) debuted earlier this week, boasting all the good stuff that goes into making wine, an onsite bar “that we very proudly built ourselves,” and summer feature: patio restaurant with “wood fired asado-inspired delights”  Thurs-Sun.” They’re in good company with neighbours including Blood Brothers Brewing Co.The Greater Good, and Parallel.

I get it. You’re sick of hearing about TR Newsletter subscribers, but they’ve known for weeks that Yorkville's newest hotspot, cocktail bar Parc Ave (265 Davenport Rd.) opens tonight. And IG followers got a sneak peek earlier today.

Round Table Tavern (2624 Eglinton Ave. E.) arrived at Brimley and Eglinton earlier this month with burgers, wings, fish tacos and other casual fare.

Haute alert: Handcrafted Swiss chocolates are the objects of affection at Swiss Art Chocolatier On Yorkville (70 Yorkville Ave.), nestled in the tony neighbourhood between the Four Seasons Hotel and Chanel.

Tenda Sushi’s extensive menu offers everything from sushi cakes to ramen. Enjoy 10 per cent off for in-store pickup at Dundas and Jarvis (106 Mutual St. Unit 1007A).

The long-awaited W Toronto (90 Bloor St. E.) officially opens today, with part coffeehouse, kitchen and bar Public School, tapas bar Living Room, and rooftop bar Skylight.

CLOSED

Black Forest Steakhouse (2624 Eglinton Ave. E.) in Scarborough known for its steak and seafood, has closed. For what’s replaced it, see above.

Tomorrow’s your last chance to visit  Chantecler Boucherie (1320 Queen St. W.). Luckily, this is not the end of restaurateur Jacob Wharton-Shukster’s stellar visions - one of which you can enjoy right now across the street: Restaurant Le Phénix (1263 Queen St .W.).

Established March 1, 2014, Cabbagetown’s The Irv Gastro Pub (195 Carlton St.) has come to an end. Recent trials and tribulations include their executive chef being seriously injured and issues with the landlord regarding the water bill, according to a post on their Instagram last month. Irv At The George in Newmarket’s The George Brewery (236 Main St. S.) remains open.

Kebab Queen (669 Queen St. W.) came and went.

Kub Khao Thai Eatery (3561 Sheppard Ave. E.) in Scarborough has closed.

The Mission Eatery swapped out their Mississauga digs (5915 Airport Rd., Unit 100) for a coveted spot on Queen West.

Onnki Donburi (40 Hayden St.) debuted Fall ‘17. Last service is Saturday, but sister brand Onkki B  just landed on College.

106 Mutual St. has been home to a number of ventures including Hurry Curry, Tacarito, and most recently Panga offering an array of pizza, poutine and paratha. For what’s taken over, see above.

Saturday’s the final day to say your goodbyes to the decade-long  Sabai Sabai Kitchen and Bar , the popular Lao and Northern Thai eatery by Jason JiangSeng Luong  and owners of Pai and SukhoThai Jeff and Nuit Regular. After changing locations throughout the years , the final resting stop at Bloor and Church (81 Bloor St. E.) has been “expropriated by the city of Toronto for the upcoming TTC expansion project.”

Simply Frosted (5550 Lawrence Ave.) also got the boot after ten years.  A notice on their website and social media reads in part, “The landlord has made the decision to lease to a new tenant.”

Uncle Tetsu’s To Go - formerly Uncle Tetsu's Angel Café (191 Dundas St. W.) may be gone, but bigger and better things are already underway.

EVENTS

This month is jam-packed with incredible street parties, parades, fairs and markets boasting fabulous food, drinks, games and entertainment for the whole family. Get TR’s Complete Guide To July’s Can’t-Miss Festivals + Events.

p.s. Stay tuned. More news ahead in The Tip Off, exclusively available in the TR Newsletter

Here’s the very latest:

OPEN

New music venue (and according to the sign outside, “most authentic” dive bar) Bar Orwell (1595 Dundas St. W.) at Dundas and Brock does $6 shots, $5 drafts/bottles, and offers a lineup of live music and comedy jams. Doors opened in March. Pro tip: For  upcoming events, check the calendar posted to the front door.

Despite the name, virtual kitchen Beta Burgers (268 Dundas St. E.) at Dundas and Sherbourne isn’t all about patties after all. Fried cod, haddock, tempura shrimp, and mozzarella sticks are what’s what via their seafood-centric concept, Atlantic Fish & Chips.

Grand opening celebrations for Roncy’s newest arrival, Birria Catrina (131 Roncesvalles Ave.), take place tomorrow. This marks the third location for the “first and only birria-specialized eatery in Toronto.”

Chef Miheer Shete has 20+ years of experience in the industry, spending much of the time since 2016 at fine dining destination Jump. Laid off during the pandemic, he launched Curryish, a pop-up of culinary creations via delivery. Just over two years later, Curryish Tavern (783 Queen St. W.) debuts with an exhilarating menu of Indian fare highlighted with Canadian ingredients. I’m talking “Montreal Style Bagel” ($6), Aloo Gnocchi + Roasted Cauliflower Curry ($26), Smashed Lamb Bhuna Burger ($25), Green Tomato Butter Chicken ($26), Lamb + Pineapple Upside-Down Biryani ($29), and Ghee Confit Duck Leg + Foie Grass Curry ($39). Psst. The space formerly home to Pretty Ugly Bar (RIP) is now Danu Social House (1237 Queen St. W.). Grand opening festivities took place Saturday.

Accomplished chefs Sungwook (Ed) Kim (Nome) and Dogeol (DG) Youn (Noma) have created an array of items including sandos, salad rolls and onigiri featuring Asian flavours - kimchi tuna, wasabi crab, beef Bulgogi - at their new Asian deli and grocery store, DNDN Asian Eatery (2109 1/2 Yonge St.) nestled between Eglinton and Davisville.

The Donlands Diner has been a fixture in East York since 1955. The retro eatery features all the diner classics including all-day breakfast and daily specials. Say hello to the new addition to the fam, The Broadview Diner (757 Broadview Ave.) opening tomorrow.

Dual Citizen kicked off in March in the lobby of the recently renovated Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel (123 Queen St. W.) across from City Hall. Find everything from build-your-own omelets to “rooster size” chicken drumettes. They take their coffee seriously too: an extensive café menu (have you met the Lazy Eye, Black Tie, or Dead Eye?) and roster of java-based cocktails is just the kickstart your day/night needs.

Maestra Gelatera Kiren Miret’s scratch-made gelato using only locally sourced and natural ingredients has touched down in Oakville. Visit Gelateria Morgana (92 Thomas St.) to indulge in Fior Di Latte Cherry, Toffee, Peanut Marzipan, Cinnamon, and other sumptuous flavours.

Boba lovers in Scarborough, you’re in luck: Gong Cha just debuted a new outpost in the Golden Mile at Victoria Park and Warden (816 Warden Ave., Unit 3).

The Hamptons (53 Clinton St.) quietly debuted last Monday in Pinky's Ca Phe’s former digs, boasting a seasonal menu, chef’s counter, and secret garden patio outfitted with a fire pit. The focused menu features oysters, snacks, Butter Three Ways ($15) and a handful of “coastal entrees” including Bay Scallop Crudo ($23), and New Zealand Venison Tartar ($23), delivering vacay vibes in the heart of Little Italy.

Shawarma is the name of the game for Mr Zagros (700 King St. W., Unit 105) at King and Bathurst.

Leslieville’s new party supply shop Party et Cie (1112 Queen St. E.) makes any function (including not having to do the dishes) all the prettier.

Paulo’s Cake Shop (1255 St. Clair Ave. W.) in Corso Italia near Dufferin claims to be “the first roll cake store in Canada.”

Spaccio West (128 Sterling Rd.) is the latest addition to the extensive Gruppo Terroni [Terroni (Adelaide, Price, Queen, L.A.) Bar Centrale, La Bettola Di Terroni, Stock T.C, Sud Forno (Queen, Temperance), Terroni Sud Forno Produzione E Spaccio (Spaccio East]. The west-side cousin to the Corktown outpost is housed in one of the oldest factories in the city, former home of Drake Commissary, complete with kitchen, caffè, Italian grocery stocked with Terroni and imported Italian products, dining space with views of the kitchen, and patio.

The speciality at the Waffle Room (2 Sammon Ave.) in Pape Village: Kawartha ice cream with your choice of bubble or Belgian waffle.

ISO Ethiopian ingredients? Yohana Convenience (898 Bloor St. W.) in Bloorcourt has you covered.

43 Down, the second new dining venue at Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel (123 Queen St. W.), is the latest go-to for wild game and offal such as Roasted Bone Marrow ($22), Pulled Beef Tongue Tacos ($15), Crispy Pig Ears ($14), Duck Two Ways ($20), and Wild Boar Croquettes ($22).

CLOSED

Big Munch Grill (757 Broadview Ave.) was just one of many concepts that took over Danforth neighbourhood stalwart New York Café last year. An east end eatery is taking over. See above.

Cook, MIMI Chinese

Formerly

Campagnolo (stagiaire), amongst others

Favourite dish to make right now

Steam pork belly with dried fermented mustard greens (Mei Cai Kou Rou).

Last cookbook purchase

Bunch of ‘70s Chinese cookbooks compiled by some Chinese provincial publishers. I bought them from a Vancouver used bookstore.

Have you read it/tried any recipes

Not really, but I cross-referenced for some of the classic recipes. Plus many bookmarks to try later.

MIMI Chinese Hunan Chili Sea Bass steamed whole and served with house fermented chilis (duo jiao 剁椒), Fujian wine and flowering garlic chive. Photo by Rachel Tong + Gabriel Li.

Name one dish or ingredient you’d like to see gone from menus

Mozzarella, especially the cheap ones used for social media viral stuffed food.

And one dish or ingredient that you’re excited about right now and would like to see on more menus

Offal. It can be pork, beef, chicken, lamb – intestine, liver, heart, tripe, sweetbread, etc., They are definitely not acceptable by many of you. But with proper processing, they can taste so clean but special with various unique textures. Moreover, it reduces food waste.

Biggest influences

My family, to be specific my grandfather.

If you could eat at any restaurant in the world

月と亀 Tukitokame in Tokyo, since my friend mentioned it many times for their special curry.

Last thing you ate

Zongzi - bamboo leaf stuffed with glutinous rice, pork and salted duck yolk. The shapes of them look kind of random, I still need to practice more on how to wrap them nicely.

MIMI Chinese House Char Siu with wild flower honey and caramelized soybeans.

Three must-have ingredients always in your fridge

Lard rendered by myself, mixed doubanjiang (fermented fava bean sauce), ajvar.

Guilty pleasure

10 piece McNuggets, Double Filet-O-Fish and Large Fries after midnight.

Top 3 favourite Toronto restaurants

Actinolite, Crosley’s, Harry's Charbroiled. Outside Toronto but GTA: Ji Xian Ge (Scarborough), Nian Yi Kuai Zi (Richmond Hill), De Chou (Thornhill).

Top 3 favourite Toronto bars

Imanishi Japanese Kitchen, Sakai Bar, Cry Baby Gallery

Go-to drink

Funky sake. Cocktails contain Chartreuse.

MIMI Chinese with (L-R) Michael Ovejas, junior sous chef Keith Siu, Junzhe (Eddie) Ling and executive sous chef Braden Chong.

One habit you have in the kitchen that you should lose, but can’t seem to shake

Scissors in back pocket. It comes in handy for cutting labels, opening jars, and breaking apart cardboards. Just too dangerous…

And one habit you have in the kitchen that will inspire young chefs

Actually I am that young chef (cook).  If I have to say something, that would be trying to make staff meal with more thought, rather than use all the leftover mise you can grab. It’s a great chance to exercise your skill, try new ideas and most importantly, make your workmates happy.

Hidden talent

I use my washroom as a darkroom. I always attract my cat to ‘make cookies’ on my belly.

The best career advice you ever received

It’s always okay to make mistakes and you will make some mistakes, realizing them and that we can fix them.

The worst career advice you ever received

Being dishonest with the menu description to charge premium and allure customers.

Your advice for young cooks starting out in the business

Don’t panic, you got this.

In order to support chefs during this time, the monthly At The Pass series is now WEEKLY. Know someone in Toronto or GTA who should be featured? Submit their name for consideration. And yes, you can nominate yourself.
