WITCH WEDDING FOR YOU
It's that time of year for weddings, and that includes witches, pagans and those who honor the goddesses.
Their wedding dresses and rituals could be a bit different from what we've grown to believe is the "norm" for after all, they are not the "norm" in society. There's the "jumping the broom" and hand fasting ribbons.
In my novel, "The Skye in June" the protagonist declares herself a witch. Now, why would a nice wee Catholic school girl do that?

ABOUT THE STORY: June MacDonald's fate is sealed the day she is born when her mother defies her husband by not naming their new daughter after a Catholic saint, as is their tradition. No one can foresee that June will grow up to threaten the family by revealing her mother's secret past in the Scottish Highlands. After a tragedy the Scottish MacDonalds emigrate to San Francisco in hopes for a new start.
HOW THE STORY CAME TO BE: My mother's love of books and her great imagination for storytelling inspired me to write "The Skye in June." It's a tribute to my mother and five zany sisters. In it I share some of our history as Scottish immigrants and coming of age during the 1960's in San Francisco. It began as a screenplay because that's how it unfolded for me as I saw characters, felt moods and heard their conversations. Especially enjoyable was the sisters' discussions, which at times was rather hilarious. Before putting it on paper, I'd speak aloud each one's words. My husband finally stopped asking if I was talking to him or "the MacDonalds" (or whomever was being created).
Because my protagonist and I share the same first name I've been asked if it's an autobiography. Some situations and events did occur but the majority of the story is my imagination hence a rather thinly veiled autobiography set in a fictional framework. Why did I call my protagonist June? Fact: Against my father's wishes my mother named me June, a name my father declared was a "heathen name" and not a saint's. I don't believe I'll be the first Saint June.
My other novel, "City of Redemption." and non-fictions, "How to Talk With Spirits: Seances, Mediums, Ghost Hunts" and "The Timeless Counselor: The Best Guide to a Psychic Reading", which was the best selling book of a new author at the 1991 Whole Life NY Expo.

METAPHYSICS & SCIENCE
Do negative thoughts and words poison the mind and eat away at the very heart of every cell in your body?
According to metaphysicians, H. Spencer Lewis and Max Heindel ,and Neuroscientists, Newberg and Waldon, in their 2014, yes is the answer.Good News: All of them agree that we can change how we think through positive affirmations and other techniques for changing negative thoughts.
“It is a metaphysical fact that for each minute of time we spend in thoughts of unfavorable impressions, unkind criticism, or hate toward any person, there will be hours of physical and mental suffering as a reaction. …….. Discover what thoughts, attitudes, and conditions of mind you have held or expressed, and immediately eliminate this attitude by reversing your opinions, thoughts, and holding thoughts of love and kindness instead.”- H. Spencer Lewis, the prominent Rosicrucian author, occultist, and mystic, who established the Rosicrucian Order, AMORC in the Americas in the early 20th century.
What do you think about these thoughts and beliefs?
As a psychic/medium for over 45 years I know how much people retain in their minds fears, hopes, past painful memories good times, things that haven't even happened - leading to ill health, unhappiness and thus negative life experiences.
I developed a mini workshop in contemplation of this quote - and there's much more in it about what happens to our all over health when thinking and speaking hurtful words, whether that be about the present (a real challenge, isn't it not to?); the future (will we survive this crazy times) and as well as the past hurts - the scenarios played over and over.

MOM & TEA LEAF READINGS
My mother was quite entertaining with her scary bedtime stories, interest in the mysterious and supernatural (love One Step Beyond TV show) and delighted us with tea leaf readings.

We just celebrated my mother's ninetieth (90) birthday at her favorite tea room and concluded the luncheon by exchanging tealeaf readings, which we learned from mom.
Being a Scottish family a good hot cuppa of black loose-leafed tea blended perfectly with milk and sugar, This was our breakfast brew.
Sometimes when the cups were emptied my mother would read our tea leaves -only for fun she'd remind us, being a good and faithful Catholic. No shenanigans with that "old black magic beliefs!" She was devoted to Mary, Our Lady, Jesus' mother, and when any of her children were in dire need for help Mom would be asked to speak to Our Lady on our behalf. The problem was more often than not cleared up. Now, you couldn't ask too often or for frivolous things. Yes, Mom had an in with Mary.
As far back as I can remember Mom has loved the mysterious and supernatural. Her love for spooky and "unusual" sparked an interest in her children, an interest that continued to grow as we did. Like some of my siblings (the rest are in denial I think) I read the tealeaves, (of course), tarot cards, aura's, and see spirits as did my mother.
Although she'd never admit to having special psychic abilities, Mom also had prophetic dreams and saw spirits - the first she mentioned was her brother Alec who drowned during WWII. Whilst on her honeymoon she saw him appear at the foot of the bed hours before the news of his death came to the family.
When we were kids we'd sit with mouth's hanging open at the breakfast table as she recounted, in great dramatic detail, the previous night's television program One Step Beyond (too late for us kids). Afterward we'd have to scamper down the steep San Francisco hills to a day with the nuns, head full of spooky images with the promise not to speak a word of it.
Friday nights we'd get to stay up late and with her would watch The Twilight Zone and Alfred Hitchcock Presents.
She's not crazy about me being a witch though or preferring the free thinking Rosicrucian knowledge and practice. Mom is mostly dismayed about some of her daughters being witches and pagans, wishing we'd have remained faithful to Catholicism as she has. But on an odd day Mom says, Maybe I'm the head witch, eh? Giving her sweet smile.
Living through the bombings of Glasgow during World War ll, emigrating to Canada on an ocean liner with five kids (father looking for more lucrative work), back to Scotland with one more kid and once again following my father to the USofA now with seventh kid (the one in pic above with Mom) where #8 and last baby was welcomed, surviving the crazy and wild times of her teen children during of the San Francisco 1960s, and all the other things that come with eight kids and a strong-willed husband, I think my mother is a most wonderful woman. City of Redemption tells of the dark underbelly of the '60's. It is a vividly recounted suspenseful story where lies, betrayal, sex, drugs and murder lead to a woman's imprisonment.
It began as a screenplay written for a Scottish actress who requested it, takes you on a real view trip of a most important political and social changing time in history - the rebellious 1960s.

HOW THE CARDS SPEAK - PART TWO
I was contacted to give an example of how the tarot cards combine with coaching to attain goals, hence part part two of my precious blog.
Major Arcana's 22 cards' images and symbols are studied in depth. Handouts of a short description and an affirmation for each card are provided.
I use the Rider/Waite deck:
0: The Fool starts the journey (far left): It represents the first breath, prana, spirit awakening to a dream, vision or idea. Creating new karma. All the power that ever was or will be is here now. Are you foolish to dream you could have that something in your life? Or, as the fools of old by in court, will you amuse the king and queen and be handsomely rewarded for your ingenious, creative acts making you the winning fool?
Coaching starts with asking:
What do you want differently in your life? What idea or dream do you want to bring into form?
Affirmations support and advance your success.
The Fool: There is nothing to fear.
Next step #1 The Magician. Short definition: As above so below. As below so above. All magic is in the will to dare. Name your idea: (I want a new job; I'm ready for a loving relationship. I want to make more money. etc) The tools to build your idea sit before you. Which tool will you choose? (see the table with the sword, cup, pentacle and wand, each has a specific meaning to how we manifest ideas)
Coaching: Will you say yes to manifesting it? What do you need to do that?
Affirmation: As I say yes to life, life says yes to me.
The High Priestess follows and she is deep in thought of why, how and what is next.
The World is the culmination of the cards' steps.What do you think that message is?

As I prepare to teach tarot classes in February, I'm digging new adventures and challenges.
For 45 years of conducting psychic readings, as a Life Coach and metaphysical/occult teacher I combine my skills to teach valuable lessons to those who wish to advance in personal awareness and attain goals.
In 1973 I began my study of the cards and continuing it with studying the Major Arcana cards with the Kabbalah (Cabbala, Qabbalah) and Jewish Mysticism for greater insights.
With my dyslexic mind and never thinking of myself as a heady, academic, intelligent being, ladies and gents, the combination study is a true challenge to me. Slowly, I've gained so much and want to share hence back to teaching.

STICKS AND STONES - THE POWER OF NAME CALLING
Sticks and bones may break my bones but names will never hurt me.
The little ditty children learn to ward off feeling badly when attacked by mean name calling.
Mikey's stupid. Mary's an ugly, fat cow. Bobby's skeely-eyed! Suzy's so skinny she falls through cracks. You're crazy. Belong in a nut house! Tommy's worthless - a sissy, a queer, idiot, good for nothing and on and on.
Usually an audience of listers chime in becoming a chorus of cruel words. Like real sticks the blows hurt and and humiliate the minds and hearts of the prey.
Unfortunately, those negative words often stay with us into adulthood and can smart just as when we were children.
Be careful what you think, because your thoughts run your life. Proverbs 4:23
I'm preparing a lecture titled, The Power of Thoughts and Words, with a focus on how our physical bodies suffer from negative thoughts, I'm reminded to watch my words.
Words have an strong impact upon us as they roll around our brains, taking root, creating beliefs and self-images, life choices (personally and professionally).
Do you find you're your own worst critic? "I am so fat." "Stupid me!" (when we make a mistake). "I'll never get that job because I'm not good enough, smart enough, etc.) "I'll never meet the right loving partner because I'm (fill in the blank). "I'm not worthy to be loved, successful, whatever" etc. etc.
Those messages stuck in the brain's highway of electrical impulses shooting through it - through YOU, through your thoughts ulitamely creating stress and breaking down the physical body; ailments, diseases, pains.
I've been interested in how the brain works since I was a teen. I turn my thoughts inward to watch my brain's activity and feel the energy. Try it, it's amazing.
With the advancement of science in the study of the brain there is documentation through scans and imaging of the brain that words heard and spoken do need "light up" and run through various parts of the brain impacting our thoughts, emotions and physicality.
A thought enters the brain as an image, a color, symbol and/or sound. You then translate it into language, choosing a word or words to describe what you experience.
If this doesn't get your thinking about changing your mind/thoughts, what will?
Words Can Change Your Brain by Andrew Newberg, M.S. American neuroscientist and Director of Research at the Myrna Brind Center for Integrative Medicine at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital and Mark Robert Waldman, Executive MBA Faculty at Loyola Marymount University teaching the Neuro Leadership program and author of 14 books “Words can literary change your brain. Negative words create a traffic jam in the brain. A single negative word can increase the activity in our brain’s fear center. This releases dozens of stress-producing hormones and neurotransmitters, which then interrupts our brain’s function. Angry words send alarm messages through the brain and they partially shut down the logic and reasoning centers locate in the frontal lobes. Conversely, hostile language can disrupt specific genes that play a key part in the production of neurochemicals that protect us from stress.”
Ouch! That caused my thoughts to think of the many years of thinking and speaking and listening to negative, hurtful words.
In the early 20th century Rosicrucian Max Heindel a Christian occultist, astrologer, mystic and author devoted much time and effort to ascertaining the real causes of physical and mental disorders. In his articles titled Occult Principles of Health and Healing, he writes, “In man the brain is the link between the Spirit and the outside world. He can know nothing of the outside world except through the medium of the brain. The sense organs are merely carriers to the brain of impacts from without and the brain is the instrument, which interprets and coordinates those impacts. It is known that thought breaks down and destroys nerve tissues.”
Florence Nightingale, pioneer for nursing, taught that the mental pain of the patient was equal to the physical. "It's a nurse's task to lift the spirits whenever possible."
Enlighten Your Awareness
Examine your thought and reaction. You might be surprised. Lift your spirits by consciously choosing positive words to feed your brain.
Peace, Love, Joy, Harmony, Kindness, Laughter, Play - repeat daily.
Use positive words. Look for the good. You are a creator of your life and the world's history.
