RUSTY DENNIS & ME - TOUGH CHICKS

“I have been inspired by June’s ability to awaken the awareness of many people and to train them to use their metaphysical gifts productively. Today would have been my friend, Rusty Dennis’ 75th birthday. I first met Rusty in 1984 while she was living in San Francisco. A mutual friend invited me to Rusty’s flat to be part of a study group of Louise Hay’s book, “You Can Heal Your Life” – and indeed Ms. Hay’s book was an inspiration and a connection to a most vivacious unique woman who would become a good friend –

You might remember her from the movie “Mask”, which was based on life as a mother of her son, Rocky. Cher played Rusty in the movie and did quite a good job, but wasn’t quite tough enough, I learned after meeting Rusty.

Rusty was a complex personality with many roles to play. One of which was a mother whose two children were to die before her. I never met Rocky in person although I did meet Joshua, her eldest son, before he died. When Joshua’s illness progressed and he was hospitalized, Rusty asked if I’d spend time with him at the hospital to help him transition, which I did. She bravely accepted his death with her usual, I must go on, attitude.

When people would offer Rusty condolences for the loss of her sons, she’d reply,they’re not lost. I know exactly where they are. They’re dead.

She knew her boys’ spirits stayed around her. One time she showed me a small studio portrait of her and Joshua. Behind them appeared a whitish "ghostly" image of Rocky who had been dead for some time. Was it the photographer's addition -that she denied - or was it truly the spirit of Rocky? Strange and unusual story, but that’s what I saw.

In addition to being a bodacious chick, Rusty was very funny – a quick to laugh out loud! She was an original LOL gal. She would puff up and challenge people and when doing so with me – testing my toughness -- I met her it squarely. She laughed heartily declaring, "You’re okay."

And darn if she didn’t test my toughness more than once. With her, you had to be on your toes, and shake off her puffing with a laugh. I could dig it and we got along just fine.

Besides a desire to heal our spirits, she and I quickly learned that we had more things in common –– we liked motorcycles (in 1975 bought my own motorcycle, a Honda 550 Super Sport

– big enough for me) - both of us were Gemini’s, and had a great thirst for adventure. And then the glue of the friendship - both had a keen interest in the psyche.

After Joshua’s death Rusty’s interest in spiritual and psychic realm deepened. When she learned that I was a psychic reader and ESP and tarot card teacher, she was eager to learn about her own abilities. It wasn’t long before she became one of my star students.

When I was scheduled to read at SF The Whole Life Expo I encouraged her to do tarot readings too.

There she sat in her “colors” reading the cards and loving it! Like many Gemini’s, she was a bit of a ham. Rusty_reader

When she moved back to Los Angeles, I visited her a few times driving down with my young son/ We'd had fun with psychic experiences. Once I encouraged to accept an offer to teach a psychic workshop at a fair and to my surprise, she was shy and uncertain – bold and shy.

End of story, she rocked.

Another time we stopped by her father’s house and she asked me to show him and her sister an ESP game – open two coat hangers, hold in both hands held together and then point at a person to measure energy. I don’t think he or her sister was all that impressed with me, but Rusty and I had fun.

We tripped around LA in her old beat-up VW bug going to metaphysical bookstores, and meeting up with other psychics. We were wild psychic girls!

I think if I had been out of broom closet with my witchcraft back then, she would have declared she was one too just to enjoy spicing up conversation that challenged the image of “society’s norm”.
In time, distance and my growing family eventually caused us to we loss touch.

I know I inspired Rusty to trust her ESP and psychic abilities but in return, she also inspired me to “show” myself more to the world because she had faith in me.

Rusty Dennis will always remain a powerful influence on my life’s work. Thank you, girlfriend.

As I continue my book tour with my latest book, How To Talk With Spirits:
Seances, Mediums, Ghost Hunts, I meet many who have paranormal experiences that share and ask why, how, and is it for real? 

My tour continues into July where I will be part of a Ghost Play production, speaking to the audience after the event and answering questions. The interest in ghosts is not new as I wrote in my book, 

"For centuries people from many different cultures, countries, and religions shared stories about ghosts and their sightings. The concept of ghosts, as hopeful evidence of life after death, goes all the way back to ancient Egypt. Then it was commonly believed death was merely a transition to some mysterious netherworld of existence. In the first century A.D. during the Roman Empire period, the great Roman author and statesman Pliny the Younger recorded one of the first notable ghost stories in letters. He reported the “specter” [ghost] of an old man with a long beard, rattling chains, haunted his house in Athens. There are many ghost stories about England’s Anne Boleyn, the second wife of King Henry VIII, haunting the Tower of London to sightings of Benjamin Franklin’s ghost seen near the library of the American Philosophical Society in Philadelphia."

create an altar, simple or elaborate - place objects, flower (s), crystal(s), photo(s), candle(s), a glass of water to look into and vision, incense of your choice.

This spell is to open up "space" for you to know there are many life experiences to have and it's time to recover your passion for the new.

DO PETS KEEP IN TOUCH AFTER DEATH?

A question often asked of me is about our pets, our beloved companions in life.

• Can pets that have passed away communicate with us? We animal lovers dread the moment when our beloved pets––our companions––die. We fear our pets are lost to us forever.

The grief can be as powerful as when we lose a person. Communication from a pet can be just as emotional as one with the spirit of a human loved one, and the reasons we want contact with them are the same. 

The energy of a pet doesn’t dissipate quickly after death. Animals are spirits, just as all life is spirit. Since we share the earth, it is easy to believe we exist in the spirit world together. They have a strong spirit presence and in my experience, can often be felt easier than human spirits can. 

People ask me if animals can communicate with us after death. I assure you, contact and communication with your pets can happen. During séances as well as in private psychic sessions I have shared many messages with teary-eyed pet guardians from their beloved animal friends. The spirits of dogs or cats commonly appear without an inquiry. Usually, they come to sit by a particular person. If not, after I describe the animal, someone happily claims it as her or his pet.

When you communicate with your spirit pets, you will receive images, actions and/or hear their animal sound. If communication is through a pet medium, she or he will receive from the pet particular information to identify contact with your pet has been made. The medium might see your pet’s personal habit or a favorite belonging.


Pet mediums are certainly one method for communicating, but I encourage you to do it on your own as well.

Sit quietly in the room you and your pet favored. You can place a photograph (your favorite one) in front of you or hold it. Take several deep breaths to relax. Say your pet’s name a few times. Relax deeper and let your mind drift to an image of her or him, maybe a special playtime, or look at that photo. Bring back that loving feeling: Imagine stroking your pet, feel the fur and warmth beneath your fingertips. You could feel the wet nose of your dog nudging your hand. You might hear the purr of your cat. There is no doubt you will experience the presence of your pet as you move into the memories.

SPELL TIME - THE GLAMOUR OF IT ALL!

When people learn that I'm a witch they ask curiously, and at times humorously, if I cast spells and then always add - bad spells?

Although it's rare I cast a spell anymore, I have created success from lovely, non-harming spells.

Spells, like prayers and affirmation, give focus to your intentions and create a connection mentally, emotionally and physically because each has those three components. For example they all use particular words, our physical bodies are involved, spells casting the circle, lighting a candle; prayers, hands clasped, sometimes on our knees, and affirmations need paper and pen to write.

I've do not cast bad spells - okay one and a many a time, wanted to. Sometimes I did cast a turn around, banishing, or binding spell. Seldom do I do those because I believe they can have a negative backlash. Once in anger, I did invoke a banishing spell against an adversary. Ouch. Backlash. Once burned....I was warned not to do it! All in all, and in time, the spell cooled out and the ending was a good choice for both of us to part ways.

When casting a spell one understands the three-fold law of karma. The 'what goes around, comes around' way of living.

A spell is like a recipe - a little of this, a dash of that, a pinch and sprinkle. Most of all a spell is like a chant, affirmation, a prayer of sorts, more than a wish, because you are direct with belief in your ability to create.

One of my all time favorite spell books is 'Simple Spells for Success' by Barrie Dolnick and Zsuzsanna E. Budapes' 'The Grandmother of Time' spells.

I simply love the glamor spell when I'm ready to attract positive attention to my personal and professional growth.

Once you experiment with it, you don't have to do it much at all. The glow of your aura energy extends out and attracts the right energy (people, events, opportunities) to you. It's quite easy.

Sit in front of a mirror in a darkened room with a white candle. Close your eyes and go through the many colors of the rainbow and your favorites. Let them swirl around you, select one, see it around and feel it in your body, beautiful, radiant, shinning through, you glow, you shine. Open your eyes, look in the mirror and see the aura of your color all around and within you.

Go into your day. Let me know how your day(s) are after the spell.

The success of a spell is only as good as your ability to mental be clear with what you want, how focused you are, and patient too - have a willingness to wait. Sometimes you might do a spell and think it's not working because it doesn't happen right away or the way you wanted it. Not true. Often other experiences must occur in order you move closer to the magic of the spell.

Periodically I do cast spells to advance projects (goals) to grow abundance. For instance with my books; novels, The Skye in June and City of Redemption, non-fictionconsumer's guide The Timeless Counselor: The Best Guide to a Successful Psychic Reading and How to Talk with Spirits: Seances, Mediums, Ghost Hunts have had an attracting spell cast as they were ready to be released to the public.

The magic continues to swirl around them. They sell every month since release.

QUESTIONS FROM THE CURIOUS LIVING

PEOPLE ARE CURIOUS about and perplexed by what happens after death, or if anything does happen at all. They wonder what the spirits of the dead might appear as, how they will manifest and what kind of messages will they give. They want to know why the spirits communicate, and if the spirits or ghosts should be feared. Although this book is mostly about communicating with our beloved ones who have passed with ways in which you can lovingly stay in contact, some people have experienced the darker side of spirits, which I can help understand and even avoid or dismiss.

• I have always seen and felt ghosts around me, even in my dreams. Some have been very scary and mean. People have told me I need help, so I’m asking you. How do I stop it?

You might not be able to completely stop spirits from communicating with you or seeing ghosts. I hear often from people who are having unwelcomed visitations from bothersome spirits and at times, vampire entities. They feel no power to stop these visitations. I’ll suggest some things here and in later chapters how you can tone it down for pesky ghosts and send them away from your space.

Let me assure you that most spirit/ghost sightings and/or hauntings are quite harmless, although unnerving. Animals and the young, especially babies, see them all the time. Creative people also have a tendency to experience them maybe because they are much more aware of “unseen” energy and colors.
The positive visiting spirits can be rather joyful and interesting. You don’t have to put up with the visits and manifestations. With your psychic abilities, you can curb and control them. It takes willingness, education, and guidance (see my ESP Quiz at end of book.)


The best thing you can do for your ghostly encounters is to learn how to control the visits. That will include which spirits/ghosts you wish to communicate with, when, and how. If they bother you stand up to the ghosts and tell them forcefully to back off or to be gone! Although sorry to say, it doesn’t always work that simply. Still, I’d start there. In time the spirit/ghost will listen and comply. Then again, and this is what I usually start with, negotiate with them sharing your space or bothering you. Say, “Don’t make so much noise!” or “Don’t touch me.” Personally, my advice is to never give permission to an unwelcomed or unknown spirit to touch you!

If you are aware of low-grade, vampire entities please don’t focus on them or engage in any way. They thrive on frightful and curious reactions from the living. When someone shows no fear (or less fearful because itis quite creepy) they usually just slither along to another source to haunt. If it’s a poltergeist (mischievous, bothersome) entity eliminating it might need the cooperation of those sharing your living space. Many cases of poltergeist haunts involve pre-teen and teen members of the family. (advice cont'd in book)                                                                 ###

PENNIES FROM HEAVEN & OTHER COIN MESSAGES FROM SPIRITS.

• Question: When I find a penny on the ground or somewhere where I didn’t see it before, I’ve heard it’s a signal my dead loved one is remembering me. Do you believe in the penny message.


• Answer: I do because it has happened to me quite a few times, often in fact. Like you, I’ve seen a penny where I absolutely know was not there before. Now, I also find dimes. I guess the cost of living has gone up in Heaven also or perhaps a spirit is sending a different message.

A connection between coins and the dead is found throughout history. In ancient Greece an obolus (coin) was placed under the tongue of the dead to pay the fare required by Charon, the ferryman of Hades (the god of the Underworld.) He would ferry the deceased across the rivers Styx and Acheron and into the underworld rather than leave the soul to wander the shore for a hundred years. In Persia, England and the U.S. pennies were routinely placed on the closed eyes of the dead, yet the purpose for this practice is not clear. Some say it was to keep the eyes of the corpse from flying open. 

Perhaps you can think of an unexpected penny as a simple “hello” from a spirit, a nickel might remind you of a time when you shared a learning experience, and a dime signifies you went through important life events together. A quarter reminds you to celebrate the spirit's great accomplishments in life.

It doesn’t have to be a coin as one person shared in a recent 2017 Dear Abbey advise column. A woman wrote about a special object she and her loving grandmother enjoyed and shared––sand dollars. Her grandmother would send the woman “dollar” postcards and after the death of her grandmother the woman inherited a gold sand dollar necklace that the grandmother wore often. Some time after the grandmother’s death, the woman looking for a new home, found one lone object in a completely empty house–– a sand dollar. She interpreted that as a sign from her grandmother, felt blessed and comforted and purchased the house.

Abbey responded in part that some people believe sand dollars are “coins” scattered by mermaids.

You might also realize a spirit connection through a particular object you and your departed loved one shared that appears out of nowhere at odd times and places.
