A Time to Rest 🌻

Is resting a challenge? Here's a better question: Did you know resting is good for the creative?

I'm learning to listen to my body. When my brain struggles with the creative process, it's time to rest.

According to a group of MIT researchers, science backs this up. Just a 20-30-minute nap may be just what I need to get the creative juices flowing again.

I love it when science proves what God has already spoken.

God considered rest so vital that He carved out a whole day of the week for rest. Jesus f...

Operating in faith

Today's Fun Fact: Faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.

When you think of faith, what comes to mind? Little David facing Goliath? Paul writing to the Philippians as he was in chains? How about Esther when she chose to face an uncertain future so she could save her people?

Faith is such an important topic to the Lord that an entire chapter of Hebrews was written to acknowledge those who lived a life of faith. I find it interesting that these people were...

Seeking Peace

Today's Fun Fact: Jesus left us with His peace.

Do you struggle with a spirit of fear? I did—for thirty-five years.

What causes fear? The Bible shows us two contrasts: the fear of the Lord and the fear of man. The fear of the Lord is reverent—recognizing that God, our Creator and Lord, is sovereign. The latter fear, however, is a spirit of fear that the Bible goes on to explain is unhealthy and has to do with punishment. 1 John 4:18 says: "There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out f...

Waiting for Results

Today's Fun Fact: Occupied Time Feels Shorter Than Unoccupied Time.

Former Harvard professor David Maister wrote an article on the Psychology of Waiting Lines. I was intrigued by his statement about occupied time.

In my day job, I work as a DBA in the HVAC Service Industry. That’s Database Administrator, for those unaware. Results are my jam. Data in—data out. Whether it's reports or refrigerant, results are what we do. When I hit execute, results come in milli-seconds.

As a creative, the wa...

The Overflow

Today's Fun Fact: When Glass breaks, the Cracks move at 3000mph.

Last week, I shared the dangerous prayer: "Give me eyes to see as You see." This week, I wanted to go even deeper and talk about our Source.

In Revealed Fire, the third book of the Revealed Book Series, Maddie asks Sonya how she can be strong for others when so many difficult things are happening around her.

The example shared by Maddie's mentor, Sonya, is a vision the Lord gave me in a particularly difficult season of my own. Th...

Give me Eyes to See

Today's fun fact: According to Science Direct, there are 130 million photoreceptors in the human retina. As light receivers, They convert light into a form your brain can use for your sense of vision.

Wow, the human body is fantastic. The nuances that drive bodily function never cease to amaze me.

As I met with a friend this week, I shared a prayer from a challenging season of youth ministry: "Father, allow me to see through Your eyes." In other words, give me eyes to see as You see.

It's bot...

A Watchman's WAIT - A Word for 2024

In December, the Lord gives me a word. A word that He uses to grow me in my next season.

The first year the Lord gave me a word, was in 2015. My word that year was TRUST. Saying goodbye to my Grandmomma ushered in the passing of a mantle of prayer. Through that year, God took me on a beautiful journey, teaching me who He was and who I was in Him all while teaching me how to trust and believe in His promises. It was a beautiful year of placing my hand in the Hands of the One who chose me in Him...
