Celebrating over 100 productions of The Love of Three Oranges

People often ask how different writing prose is from stage plays and, to me, the biggest difference is what happens once they are finished. Whenever you finish any writing and publish it, it goes out into the world without you and that’s always a strange experience. But, for the most part, a reader experiences a novel or non-fiction book or article privately and, if they connect with your words, you rarely ever hear about it.
But a play is a living thing. A finished pl...

The three simple lessons every business owner needs to understand to be a success
Today’s post is reprinted (with permission) from author Patrick Carman because he just says it too perfectly not to share. Some thoughts on work My daughter just started her first business adventure. She’s sixteen, so I’m guessing it won’t be the last. Working with her reminds me of a business lesson I once...

In which “babies sleep all the time” turns out to be a filthy, filthy lie

English: Sleeping baby. (Photo credit: Wikipedia)
I’ve blown through my queue again and there was a week without a post. My apologies. That should be a good indicator that things are hectic.
Baby is wonderful and I love her insanely. She just gets cuter and smarter and more wonderful every single day. The weirdest part about this, to me, is how you simultaneously find yourself excited to see her hitting milestones and growing up and depressed that she’s not as small and little as she once was....

You guys mind listening while I talk this project out?
One of the projects I’ve been working on for a while but never really talk much about here is TheLibrary (project nickname, obviously). It started out as a short story then I realized it would be much longer than originally planned and started to write it as a novel before realizing it wasn’t quite long enough to be a full novel, more like a novella. Then Script Frenzy was coming up and I didn’t have an idea for a play that year so, on a whim, I decided to rewrite the whole story as a play an...

Straight from the source, here’s what happened in the world of e-commerce, social networking and selling online in the past week: Got a Dongle? Sell it on eBay! It seems that people have been laughing over the word “dongle” ever since it emerged in the world of tech-talk. Lately, it’s mainly eBay sellers who are […]

Polar Twilight featured for Middle School, High School and Community theaters in Playscripts 2013-2014 Play Catalog
The 2013-2014 Playscripts Catalog will be coming to a subscriber’s mailbox near you soon but, in the meantime, you can grab an electronic copy right now here.
Though Polar Twilight was actually released before the 2012-2013 catalog was released, it was out just a few weeks too late to actually be in the catalog so it’s featured this year instead.

(The little candy cane denotes holiday play.)
One thing that sort of strange for me coming from the self-publishing world is seeing how the publisher m...

My Half-NaNo is not going as well as expected… or is it?
Camp NaNoWriMo Shirt (Photo credit: randomcuriosity)
I’m writing this on Friday night (7/26) but I’m going to schedule it to post on next Tuesday. Why?
Because, as I write this, I am at 9,117 words for July out of my Half NaNo aka my 25,000 goal for July. That’s 36% of my goal so it’s not like I completely embarrassed myself with 3 words but it’s less than I did for the April Camp NaNoWriMo so it’s not stellar.
But that 36% today? Old news. Today, my friend, TODAY I’m at this. (Total words writte...
