In which a grown man is still bitter that we wouldn’t let him play My Little Pony with us
I ran into the mother of an elementary school friend over the weekend at a production of my play. She’d seen my name on the posters and wasn’t sure if there was more than one Hillary DePiano in the world and had her son, my elementary school friend’s little brother, Google me to help her […]

2013 NaNoWriMo aka I am actually rather proud of myself for a change

It’s been a rough NaNoWriMo. You’ll notice I not only haven’t said two words about it, I never even posted my little widget guy so that you could watch my progress. Even this post should have gone up yesterday but there was baby chaos until late into the night so I never got the chance.

Which is why it will surprise you when I post this…

2013-Winner-Facebook-Cover

I won NaNoWriMo yesterday.I wrote over 50,000 words this month. I finished another novel.

And I did it with a teething baby. Who doesn’t nap. As a new parent. W...

NaNoWriMo Week Four: Behind, ahead or on pace, keep writing for YOU

There is less than a week left in November. Thanksgiving is a mere four days away. December starts next Sunday.

All of this means that we’re dangerously close to the end of NaNoWriMo.

I know that some of you have already passed 50,000 and I want to assure you that the rest of us are giving you glares of, um, respect, and totally not jealousy no matter what you’ve heard. As for everyone else, whether you’re on pace, behind or Really Freaking Behind, I encourage you to keep writing up until the b...

NaNoWriMo: a quick note on Week Three

Can you believe it?

It’s Week Three. Thanksgiving is only 10 days away and we’re edging ever closer to the end of this 30 day journey.

Many of you have already won and hundreds more are right on pace to cross the finish line on time. The rest of us, however, still have a lot of words to go before we hit 50,000 and the clock is ticking.

Here’s the good news: It’s about to get easier. Whatever your word count, power through and try to get as close to 30,000 or beyond as you can in the next day or...

If you want to achieve greatness stop asking for permission (Photo credit: billsoPHOTO)

If you’re going to write a novel in a month, heck, if you’re serious about any writing at all, you’re going to quickly realize that the only way to make it happen is to make your writing a priority in your life. If you don’t feel like it is or if you thought it was but you’re still not finding a time to get any words down, it’s time to rethink how you think about writing.

Give yourself permission to write.

So...
