Book Banter S3 EP 135: David Weill, MD Interview
Hello My Happy People,
Today, before we get on with our interview information, we would be remiss not to acknowledge the events that happened on September 11th, 2001. We send love and prayers to every person affected by this devastating attack on American's. We will never forget!
In this episode, Dianne get to shares her wonderful conversation with David Weill, MD. They had a fantastic discussion about books, medicine, and the best flavor of ice cream. You will not want to miss out on this chat with the incredibly intelligent, talented, and charming David Weill, MD.
Being the only son of a doctor and a nurse, David, seemed destined to become a physician himself. His entry into the medical field began when he was just a teenager. He was very comfortable in the hospital environments from the start.
His comfort was clearly an asset to David’s career path — choosing to specialize in pulmonary medicine, specifically with lung transplants. Taking a job with Stanford University Medical Center, David would eventually work his way to becoming the hospital’s Director of the Center for Advanced Lung Disease and Lung and Heart-Lung Transplant Program.
However, after spending decades on the frontlines of such a demanding job, David decided it was time to take a step back to refocus his life. In 2016, David moved back to New Orleans, where he established the Weill Consulting Group. He is the driving force behind this group that focuses on improving pulmonary, ICU, and transplant care.
This new direction in David’s life also led him to more creative outlets. In 2021, David wrote his memoir, Exhale: Hope, Healing, and a Life in Transplant. This book focused on the emotional roller coaster of working in transplant medicine. In 2024, he followed his memoir with a fiction novel called, All That Really Matters .
Both books have received high praise in online reviews, proving David to not only be a talented doctor, but also quite adept at translating the medical world into a written form with books that are both engaging and entertaining for readers of all levels.

Hello My Happy People,
Jelaine Lombardi has lived a life with which very few can identify. Her list of identifiers include being a wife and a mother. She was a Newborn ICU nurse for thirty-two years. She is a passionate horsewoman and has been so her entire life. She is a First Mate, an artist, and a writer, but one thing that truly makes Jelaine unique is the fact she was raised as a nudist.
This began as a weekend family activity when she was just 15 months old until her parents bought their own South Florida nudist park when she was seven. She lived as a nudist until she was eighteen. In her book, Running Around Naked, A Memoir, Jelaine shares stories from her childhood that cover an array of situations and stories that range from hysterically funny to somewhat disturbing.
Jelaine is quick to point out that she does not speak for all nudists and emphasizes that she did not write her book to persuade or deter anyone from being a nudist. She just wanted to share her story.
Having retired from healthcare, Jelaine is now focusing on her writing career. She is revisiting her childhood and sharing her memories through various creative outlets of poetry, short stories, and books. She also wrote a memoir for one of her rescue horses, Abby’s Tale: Memoir of a Rescued Horse, with plans to write memoirs for more of her horses. This Pakistani-born chef has explored many avenues within the food industry. She has been a food stylist, a culinary instructor, the co-creator of her family-owned business KarachiKitchenFoods.com, and the author of the award-winning cookbook The Karachi Kitchen.
Through her business, she creates and sells high-quality, small-batch foods inspired by family recipes. Kausar is passionate about sharing the delectable foods and flavors that are unique to Pakistani cuisine.

Hello My Happy People,
Today I get to share my chat with bestselling author, Sheila Lowe. She has made a very successful career for herself involving the written word, but not how you might think. Long before she published her first book, she was a respected forensic handwriting analyst.
Sheila’s interest in handwriting analysis began while she was still in high school. She followed her interests and even developed her expertise further by becoming certified as a forensic document examiner.
This newly expanded set of qualifications allows her to testify in court as an expert witness. For many, this would be a satisfying career, but Sheila wanted more. She returned to college earning a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in Psychology. These credentials solidified her worth as an expert witness.
Even with a successful career as a handwriting examiner, Sheila was interested in finding other creative avenues where she could make use of her talents. She decided to branch out to explore the opportunities that come with being a published author. Besides her fiction and nonfiction works, Sheila has also published a memoir about how her life changed after the m*rder of her daughter.

Heidi McIntyre is a self-proclaimed late bloomer. She put off marriage until her mid-forties and didn’t start writing creatively until a few years later. A career path she was inspired to pursue by a professor who convinced her to change her field of study to English.
It was this change that caused a spark in her to become a published author — a dream she finally realized in February of 2023 with her debut novel Sea Magic . While she admits this passion was slow to ignite in her, she has never let that fire die out since.

Hello My Happy People,
Fans of true crime will be hard-pressed to find another author with the credentials, training, and experience as retired Crime Scene Investigator II, Gerardo Bloise. Gerardo's career in 1983 as a police officer in San Juan, Puerto Rico. After graduating from police training, his first assignment was protection detail for the First Family of the Governor of Puerto Rico.
From that first prestigious placement, Gerardo would go on to earn numerous titles and accreditations in various fields of law enforcement and forensic investigation. Besides furthering his technical training, Gerardo also went on to earn an MA Degree in Public Administration with a concentration in Criminal Justice from the University of Turabo.
In addition to his formal education, Gerardo has extensive hands-on experience in the field, having investigated more than 800 criminal cases. With this kind of background, it is easy to understand how he can write such a riveting account of the criminal investigation he details in his debut novel, CSI: The Casey Anthony Child M*rder Case .
Recently we received notification from Gerardo that on August 3rd, 2024, his debut novel was awarded the prestigious silver award as a police revelation book of autobiography and memoir by the Florida Authors and Publishers Association.
