I wake early, get the kid ready for school, and then sit in my office chair and take up writing from where I left off the night before. I do not drink coffee--which is a bit odd for a writer--and I've never suffered writer's block. Waiting for inspiration is like waiting for rain--it's never there when you need it, and you never have an umbrella when it comes. Just write. Inspiration comes only after the work begins, and then rarely. I do not trust it.(less)

The Next Anthology Has Been Canceled

It is with regret that I announce the cancelation of Deductions, Delinquents, and Detectives, BANJAXED’s next planned anthology.

A few weeks ago I suffered what I thought was a heart attack. After various tests and medications, I hope it was some other issue–but a heart is nothing upon which to gamble. It was suggested that I lessen my stress load and keep calm at all times, so I found myself choos

“May the words come easy, the doubt be weak, and the coffee strong enough to eat through steel. (I don't drink coffee...but I understand most authors do, and they like it with a bit of fight in it.) Now, let us boot up, sit down, and accrue those daily page counts!”
G. Allen Cook

“Fantasy is hardly an escape from reality. It's a way of understanding it.”
Lloyd Alexander

“You must write every single day of your life... You must lurk in libraries and climb the stacks like ladders to sniff books like perfumes and wear books like hats upon your crazy heads... may you be in love every day for the next 20,000 days. And out of that love, remake a world.”
Ray Bradbury

“If you don't have time to read, you don't have the time (or the tools) to write. Simple as that.”
Stephen King

“I cry a lot because I miss people. They die and I can't stop them. They leave me and I love them more.”
Maurice Sendak

“I said anything I wanted because I don't believe in children I don't believe in childhood. I don't believe that there's a demarcation. 'Oh you mustn't tell them that. You mustn't tell them that.' You tell them anything you want. Just tell them if it's true. If it's true you tell them.”
Maurice Sendak

G. Cook It's Shark Week again. Though I rarely watch it these days, it holds a special place in my heart, as I began writing my first "book" (in the eighth grade, no less) during Shark Week of...er, the very early 90's. I wrote longhand, and it took a year to reach 100 pages, front and back, scribbled in my impossibly-tiny hand. I detest sharks, but I like their week, because I feel like it's an anniversary, of sorts. (And all the other kids thought I was such a dork for it. That they may have been right is beside the point.)

G. Cook Everyone always asks, "What's the best opening line in a novel?" I want to know--What's the best closing line? Isn't that the one that stays with you longer? (Well, most of the time.) Time to crack some books and read some last lines. Anyone out there have a favorite?

G. Cook I do hope I'm allowed to upgrade to an Author's profile once they gauge my questionnaire. I'd love to see my own books listed on this page.

G. Cook I sincerely apologize for asking you all to follow me again. There was a little hiccup with my Amazon account, which entailed me reformatting some of my author platforms.

Again, I'm supremely sorry for the inconvenience. Everything is as it should be now.

I hope to see you all back with me.
