“Everybody has a right to love and happiness.” Abhijit Naskar, The God Sonnets

Everybody has a right to love and happiness, any book, brain or ballot that demands otherwise, take it to the wilderness and set it free, far, far away from civilization.

Most Human (Sonnet 2151) – Abhijit Naskar, The God Sonnets

Racism is no longer tolerated as normal,
Islamophobia is no longer tolerated as normal,
Homophobia is no longer tolerated as normal,
Chauvinism is no longer tolerated as normal,
Colonialism is no longer tolerated as normal –

believe you me, I speak as a biologist,
this is the most human humanity have
ever been in our 200,000 years long history.

Accessibility is no longer ignored as unimportant,
Autism is no longer frowned upon as abnormal,
Integration is no longer cussed as act of stigma,
Intolerance no longer celebrated as divine intervention.

No wonder bigots have their knickers in a twist,
customs of the jungle are getting eradicated like disease.
Don’t be disheartened by occasional resurgence of fascism,
inhumanity flickers fiercely before fading into the abyss.

“Live, even when life limps.” Abhijit Naskar, The God Sonnets

Live, even when life limps.
Sing, even when your throat is sore.
Help, even when your hands bleed.
Love, even when your soul is not sure.

Mind is My Mecca (Sonnet) – Abhijit Naskar, The God Sonnets

Wanna touch God?
Touch a life in pain.
Person becomes holy by
helping another without gain.

The world needs missionaries of love,
missionaries of reason,
not mercenaries of organized religion.
out to harvest convert vegetation.

I was born of dust, I live as flame,
for I choose to be human, not a dead name.
Not lords and ladies, not dukes and dames,
mind stands beacon stripped of cages lame.

Human is the one who asks no one to kneel;
go, walk the earth not to evangelize, but heal.
To be holy is to carry a candle, not sermon;
mind is my mecca, soul is kindness in motion.

Names Behind Naskar (Sonnet) – The God Sonnets

The world often wonders about my influences,
in doing so it often cooks up fake inspiration.
So I write this little sonnet memoir, so you’re
aware of the crucial names in my ascension.

There is no Naskar the neuroscientist,
without, firstly Persinger, then Ramachandran;
there is no Naskar the poet, without Mevlana.
And among all your historic philosophers,
only appealed to me Tolstoy and Aquinas.

Then there are Ramanujan and Tesla,
with whom I’ve identified deeply.
And finally, to speak of my origin,
there is no Naskar the mission,
without Gadadhar Chatterjee.

These are my most cherished beings,
names that are never out of my mind.
None of them were flawless, none my god,
but they live rent free as part of my light.

Practical Theology (Sonnet) – Abhijit Naskar, The God Sonnets

Not sheep, not wolf, be human –
graduate from dogma to divinity.
Take theology out of the sky and
place it in the heart of humanity.

From stars to soil to synapses,
arrangement of atoms dictates reality.
From inanimate to animate to sapient,
humanity is an affair of cosmic serendipity.

All superstitions are practiced as truth,
all entitlement is passed on as enlightenment.
Acts of dogma are perpetrated as divinity,
love-n-reason feels dehumanizing to the intolerant.

Hallucinations are the foundation of perception,
delusions are the foundation of persecution.
Day you grow up to distinguish between the two,
you shall become a pillar of civilization.

Anatomy of Typos (Sonnet) – Abhijit Naskar, The God Sonnets

It took me a 100 books to realize this,
typos are not a stain upon literature,
typos are ornament of literature,
sweet reminders of human endeavor.

It’s great to have literature without typos,
like it’s great to have a life without regrets.
But in actuality, only the dead have no regrets,
only the uncreative make no typographical mistakes.

There are typos that are grievous, hence,
need correcting, but most typos are harmless.
Repulsed by typos means repulsed by literature,
repulsed by regrets means repulsed by existence.

Typos are the ornament of literature,
regrets are the ornament of life.
To make peace with regrets is the beginning of life,
to make peace with typos is to empower literary light.

Village Vesuvius (The Sonnet) – Abhijit Naskar, The God Sonnets

Be a think tank of life,
not a septic tank of prejudice.
Stand messenger, stand human,
not a brainless host to malice.

The book of truth is not a book of answers,
the book of truth is a book of questions.
The book of life is not a book of laws,
the book of life is a book of conscience.

Whenever, wherever, fanaticism weaponizes fear,
human hearts gotta rise, abandoning tranquility.
Whenever chowderheads infringe on love and reason,
time be my testament – My World, My Responsibility!

Pillar of heavens I stand, composed as the Himalayas.
Persecute any community, and I am the Village Vesuvius.

Never Serve Your Nation (Sonnet) – Abhijit Naskar, Iftar-e Insaniyat: The First Supper

Educate your children never to serve your nation;
to serve the nation makes monkey out of human,
killing on the basis of nationality and religion.

If you wanna serve your nation,
serve through science, serve through art,
serve through music, literature, industry,
but never through military.

However, if you wanna make crime your career,
with all the glorious decorations –
kill one person, it’s murder –
kill in bulk, it’s patriotism.

Soldiers are just glorified webcam models,
standing erect to serve political libido.
Be the human your flesh appears to be,
or go back to the jungle, your mind is suited so.

Science, arts, music, innovation,
that’s how you serve a nation.
There is no greater dipsomaniac
profession, than militarist infestation.
