Neurovision (Sonnet) – Abhijit Naskar, Neurosonnets

Mind is one big lie,
unless you examine everything.
Life is one big blind spot,
unless you question everything.
All prejudice comes with a flag,
all discrimination comes with a badge.
Nothing civilized in waving the flag,
real honor is to outgrow archaic trash.
If you must wave, wave the flag of those
who are stripped of their life and dignity.
Wave the rainbow, wave the watermelon –
lift up those thrown in manufactured obscurity.
If left to tradition, every mind
is a septic tank of superstition.
But nourish it with heart and reason,
and mind is sanctuary of illumination.

Faith is A Private Pill (Sonnet) – Abhijit Naskar, The God Sonnets

Faith is a private pill, not public law;
belief is a personal mechanism, not a mandate.
I am not a religious figure, but a human one;
only gospel I offer is the gospel of tolerance.
I stand not to dehumanize, but to dedogmatize,
yet to entitled bigots it always feels dehumanizing.
In my world, science is philosophy is theology is poetry,
beyond the grasp of your fractured compartmentalizing.
Ivory tower of belief and ivory tower of logic,
are both equally antithetical to life’s delicacies.
We gotta bring belief down from the sky into the soil,
and logic down from the tower onto the streets.
Live deeply, love madly, indulge moderately;
remember, vengeance is not power, but paralysis.
Love is not an emotion, love is existence;
tolerance is not a faculty, it’s consciousness.

On The Good Side of Government (Sonnet 2199) – Abhijit Naskar, The God Sonnets

How to be on the good side of government,
this is a manual for the monkeys –
never question, never reason, never doubt,
be a good little patriot, blind to atrocity.
Foster no conviction on human rights,
memorize the moral parameters set by the state,
and remember, it’s not about morality or ethics,
it’s about licking the boots of office idiots.
Use music and movies as propaganda machine,
for the government’s favorite god ‘n religion,
never make art about correcting social ill,
but about maintaining fanatical superstition.
However, well aware of all the dangers,
if you still dare to stand as human –
I salute you, o brave beacon of life,
there is hope yet for human civilization!

Human kneels to no ICE or SS (Sonnet 2200) – Abhijit Naskar, The God Sonnets

Human bows to no flag or crown,
human claims no jeweled throne –
rejoicing in ruin of reputation,
human stands unbent and alone.
Bound to no creed or clan,
human kneels before no stone –
every place where hate looms,
human sings in flesh and bone.
Human kneels to no ICE or SS,
human fears no dictatorial decree –
where chains are sold as holy relic,
human comes alive, roaring to be free.
Human walks not in luxury suits,
but in dusty rags of the street –
human feasts with homeless folks,
and dies happy at their feet.

My Idea of Romance (Love Sonnet) – Abhijit Naskar, The God Sonnets
My idea of romance is a bit different,
it’s not steamy hot sex at the back of a car,
my idea of romance is to snuggle up together
on the couch, with pizza and Gilmore Girls.
Excitement lasts till lust is satisfied,
intimacy transcends excitement in love and life.
Intercourse is a small variable in the love equation,
there is more to love than doing it from behind.
There’s a difference between
being horny and being in love,
when you are horny, you want release –
when in love, you don’t want to be released.
Intimacy is a life-long journey,
it doesn’t end with stripping off clothes –
real intimacy begins when you stand baring your soul.

Be The Change, Not The Caption (Sonnet) – Abhijit Naskar, The God Sonnets

Do good, don’t delegate.
Go vital, not viral.
Dare the deed, not drama.
Be the specimen, not a spectacle.
Speak truth, not trends.
Carve meaning, not metrics.
Plant roots, not rumors.
Foster oneness, not optics.
Lend a hand, not hashtag.
Trigger action, not attention.
Stir up lives, not likes.
Be the change, not the caption.

“If you have the money, go out and do good.” Abhijit Naskar, The God Sonnets

People ask me to set up charity,
so they can donate money –
but here’s the thing,
I don’t want your charity –
if you want to support what I do,
you can do so by getting a few books,
if you have the money to do greater good,
go out and do good at the grassroots.

The Good Terrorist (Sonnet) – Abhijit Naskar, The God Sonnets

One fine morning, out of the blue,
I invade your home with a military crew;
I declare myself king of land and life,
now on, you’re my hostage, I’m your truth.
Years go by and I show no remorse,
if anything, each day I tighten my course;
in helpless pursuit to make me see sense,
you abduct the ones, to me near and close.
If what I did is not invasion,
then what you did is not abduction!
Alas, it takes a human to solve this math,
monkey math falls short for civilization!
When ethnic cleansing becomes your religion,
mutiny becomes our dream, duty and right –
you erect your animal empire on persecution,
in revolution we stand human civilized.

Merhem-e Manavta (Sufi Sonnet) – Abhijit Naskar, The God Sonnets (Eid Mubarak!)

Where there is no muslim, non-muslim –
where there is no believer, non-believer –
where all distances are conquered by heart,
outgrowing myths one emerges Merhem-e Manavta.
Compulsion of religion is a thing of the past,
conversion of faith, trivial as changing clothes;
mark of a holy being is not belief, but behavior –
clothes, creed, all wither, not character’s glow.
Christian on Sunday, Atheist on Monday,
Buddhist on Tuesday, Sikh on Wednesday,
Hindu on Thursday, Muslim on Friday,
Jewish on Saturday, try the rest the next day.
Love speaks louder than faith,
kindness speaks louder than scripture.
Service is sanctity, my Eid al-Adha –
tolerance is my azaan, my Eid al-Fitr.
