A Sweet Cinderella Retelling

This was a sweet Cinderella retelling. It has all of the Cinderella elements you love: snobby step-sisters, a mean step-mother, a twist of a kindly neighbor for the godmother, and a prince who figures out a plan to not be the prince at his own ball.
There was only hints of magic. It was a clean romance with a sweet kiss. It set up the couple nicely for their novel
I would hand this book to a teen who reads romance without any hesitation.
The narrator was fun to listen to; I especially enjoyed h...

A book that kept me guessing
This book had wonderful twisted plots and exciting parts. I enjoyed the entire book and couldn’t guess all that was going on—until the end. I called the finale, which was fun.
As with the other books in this series, I loved that this was set in Mississippi. It was less involved in the actual Natchez Trace than the other books in the series, but still enjoyable.
There was a good Christian theme threaded throughout the book. I especially liked the lessons Clayton learned throughout the book. It w...

Action from page one
The intertwining mysteries in this book kept me guessing. I very much love how all the characters work together to piece together the puzzle. It was action from page one and kept me interested the entire time.
I appreciate how the characters were not ashamed of their faith. It was more a part of who they were rather than just “pray in trouble.”
The romance is overall sweet. Some of the kisses were a bit much for my preferences. Some sections were more romance than suspense, which will balance o...

The perfect suspense read for non-romance fans
After reading a few of Hannibal’s other books, this one had a slower start than I anticipated. It took several chapters for me to figure out how Peter was involved with Maui. But once I got in, I was hooked. This book was more like a regular suspense novel than some of Hannibal’s others. It isn’t a bad thing, just different than “The White Lion,” for example.
The character cast was great. I really did end up liking Peter, whom at first I didn’t care for. His journey to faith seemed authentic, e...

Fatal Code by Natalie Walters – my review
I have been eagerly awaiting Kekoa’s story and this one did not disappoint. It is a nice mix of action and tech talk that mostly went over my head.
The depth of character development for both Kekoa and Elinor was spot on. I loved them both for different reasons and could empathize with the struggles they had. The chemistry of their relationship was also a good balance of just good fun and struggle and trying not to be killed or see the other one killed.
I greatly appreciated the complexity of t...

The Catch by Lisa Harris
Lisa Harris’s U.S. Marshalls series has been a good, mild suspense set.
As a conclusion to the series, this did tie up all loose ends left in the last book. The conclusion of Madison’s husband’s death was solid.
Personally, I didn’t find this to be very suspenseful. There was a lot of activity and action and the stories kept intertwining, but nothing heated up for me personally. It could have just been my reading mood at the time, though.
I do like the balance of romance still in these books. T...

Another WWII novel to add to your TBR
I think Sarah Sundin just might be one of my current favorite authors, especially for World War II Christian Fiction.
I am definitely reading as many of her books as I can find right now.
So of course I read her newest, Until Leaves Fall in Paris.
I found this book and “When Twilight Breaks” to be a slightly different tone than her other series, and I think it’s because the characters are not in the military but are Americans “trapped” in Europe and its turmoil.
It isn’t a bad thing, it’s j...

When we’re in a hard spot or a valley…
When we’re in a hard spot or a valley, sometimes we think that’s where we’ll stay. We expect life will always be as hard as it is today and think there is no promise that things will get better.
But we do have promises.
Joseph didn’t stay in prison.
The Israelites didn’t stay in Egypt.
Job didn’t stay in grief and physical malady.
David didn’t stay hiding from Saul.
Esther didn’t stay destined for death.
Daniel didn’t stay in the lion’s den.
Jesus didn’t stay in the grave.
These individuals...

Because Following God Isn’t Always Easy…
I may or may not have cried for a movie with a graduation ceremony… because I suddenly realized that, God pulling me through, I’ll be walking across a stage to get my diploma in just a short time.
Every time I prayed about college, God gave me a “no.”
Then, ten years after highschool, when I prayed for direction, God answered with “college.”
The whole time, He knew the timing of everything.
He knew I would be in college when my health crashed from years of hidden disease and I would “begin” ...
