I haven’t listened to BARREN yet! Will give it a shot. I love horror fiction podcasts.

I’m a longtime supporter of THE NOSLEEP PODCAST, and I’m listening to THE BLACK TAPES right now with my oldest son. We’re both loving that one. I’m also a big fan of THE MAGNUS ARCHIVES, and there is one episode of KNIFEPOINT HORROR that I’d give my left arm to adapt.

If I wanted to see Tumblr Live, I’d walk outside and find an alley behind a curio shop.

Oh, my god. It’s already the New Year and I still haven’t finished the leftover Halloween fentanyl.

Our pilot just announced to the cabin that he hoped we all had a good hangover cure and he was going to “fly faster than they planned,” so this might be the spectacular death I always hoped for.

I’ve been thinking about “you can’t pin joy like a moth” all day.

DEFINITELY the time for me to start devouring all my nicest things.

Devour nice things.

My Comfort List

Hey! @tacosaysroar tagged me in this, so away we go…

Comfort Food:

Pasta of almost any variety, but my favorite is the old-world fettuccine Alfredo, which is not a cream sauce, but butter. It’s super simple and fucking amazing: Mince and sautée garlic (as much as your palate can handle, I use what experts call a “shit-ton”) in butter. Once the pasta’s done, toss it in the pan with the garlic, then plate it and dust the whole thing with a bunch of freshly grated Parmesan. It may sound like just buttered noodles with garlic and cheese, but it’s all in the preparation—it totally levels up the dish. If you’re feeling frisky, add shrimp to the garlic when sautéing.

Comfort Clothes:

It used to be board shorts and a T-shirt, but since the pandemic it’s been workout clothes. Even when I’m not working out.

Comfort Song:

Too many to mention, but no matter my mood, the one album that always makes me feel at peace and connected with the universe is Morphine’s Cure For Pain. To me, the whole thing tells a story of loss and self-forgiveness.

Comfort Movie:

I’d love to say it’s something classic like A Face In The Crowd or groundbreaking like Adaptation or touching like Shakespeare In Love, but my comfort movie has always been Xanadu—just a trashy musical blend of disco and ‘80s synth rock, all on roller skates.

Comfort Book:

Douglas Adams’ The Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy. It not only makes me laugh every time I read it, but it also indelibly shaped my writing.

Comfort Activity:

Does sleeping count? No? Then, watching movies. And if it’s a rainy weekend day and I can spend all day in my pajamas watching a movie marathon, perfect.

Comfort Games:

I do not like games. Board games, card games, trivia games—I find them all boring and insipid. I know it’s out of fashion now, but I still enjoy playing Fortnite every once in a while, but that’s about it. We also have an old school Rampage arcade game. That’s fun.

OK, yay! Now, I get to tag people for their Comfort List. I tag @charliecapen, @bestnatesmithever, @lazydad (who I just saw in a TV commercial!), @lickystickypickyzzz, and @taylorswift.

Since everyone’s done with their “bUt It’S aN xMaS mOvIe” viewing of Die Hard, just a few notes about Ellis:

Ellis could’ve saved his own ass at any time by giving up that Holly was John’s wife, but didn’t, so he isn’t the scumbag you all pegged him as. (Douchebag, yes. Scumbag, no.)The actor that played Ellis is named Hart Bochner, who also played a scumbag in Breaking Away. And more recently in The Dropout.Hart was actually a total motherfucking smokeshow.
