Your Best Pet Yet
As a girl, I was an animal lover. And still am. My parents gave me a fish tank, my first foray into the kingdom of animal ownership. In no time, I begged for a hamster. Later, a gerbil. And a German shepherd. And a cat. My parents indulged me, but they must have enjoyed the menagerie because they purchased singing canaries and a huge birdcage for nightingales and finches for themselves. Did I mention my parakeet and guinea pig?
Unfortunately cats made me sneeze. Not that my allergy stopped me...

Bald eagle taking a break, but ready for action!

Our neighbor brings her gray parrots outside for fresh air. They love it!

A neighbor’s chickens produce colorful & delicious eggs!

Seagulls mate for life, take turns incubating the eggs, & feeding their chicks.
Congratulations to Susan Brownson, winner of “A Courtin’ We Will Go,” a framed photo by Lisa Myers. Plus a signed copy of one book from the Legacy of Lancaster Trilogy: the winner’s choice of Leaving Lancaster, Pennsyl...

Impatience
As I stood outside in the blazing sun waiting for the Blue Angels to skim over our house in preparation for Seafair, I considered how much patience is required to capture a good shot, especially if the subject matter is moving at almost the speed of sound. In the quiet of the nearby nature preserve, I’ve seenphotographers using tripods waiting for an unusual bird to land on a nearby tree for hours.

Often Capturing a photo is a matter of patience & good luck!
I’d brought my camera, a pen and p...

Last week, we decided to take the long way home. So much more pleasant than the freeway!

Lower Stillaguamish Valley, WA

I love the look of weathered wood.

I doubt many Amish farmers would allow their wooden barns to peel.

I used to feel sorry for calves raised away from their mothers in separate stalls, until I read the stats! They are healthier & live longer. Any of you who have been to Amish Country have seen the plastic hutches that look so out of place.
Congratulations to Les, winner of t...

How Do You Deal with Stress?
I seldom get stressed-out. So, why did I awake with a start after a dream about meeting someone for lunch and not being able to locate the restaurant? Was my sleepy-time foray merely a worrisome dream or a nightmare?
Should I take this recent Can’t-find-the-restaurant dream as an indication that I’m actually under pressure I don’t address during the day? When awake, I focus on good things: our younger son is home for a week-long visit and I even found my iPad after two weeks during an AHA! mo...

Kate’s Favorite Pics!

I saw so many lovely flowers on my walks this week, it’s hard to choose a favorite!

This vibrant planting, up at the beach, is a head-turner!

I find these daisies delightful too! No wonder I have trouble choosing a favorite.
Please help me congratulate Lisa Myers, winner of the Amish-made apron and a signed copy of one book from The Legacy of Lancaster Trilogy! I’ve emailed her and await her response.
Thank you to all who entered. I enjoyed reading your comments, many of them humorous and enc...

A Hearty Breakfast
I smile as I recall my father-in-law telling me about growing up in South Dakota. Born in 1921, he commenced working summers at age thirteen as a cook’s helper on a nearby farm. An arduous bicycle ride away from home, but his family needed the money during the Great Depression and the Dust Bowl.Sometimes he stayed on at that farm for weeks.
I imagine the farm kitchen was rustic and large enough to prepare food for a dozen farmhands. What time did his job commence each day? Early in the mornin...

Please, come stroll with me through this fun shop, Doilies 2 Doorknobs, and admire the collectibles! Located in Stanwood, WA.

Anything catch your eye? I think I see Depression glass!

I must return and find some clothing for my granddaughter’s dolls!

I could have spent hours in here, but my husband was in a hurry!
Congratulations to Linda W., winner of the pink Depression glass creamer, the lovely Amish-made potholder from Lancaster County, PA, plus a signed copy of one novel from the Legacy...
