Drop-ins Welcome

Last weekend, I set off for a walk with no destination in mind. I prodded myself up a steep hill, then another, and then made a few turns—not my usual route. As I ambled along, a woman who lived at the bottom of yet another hill came to mind. She and I had belonged to a Moms-and-babies group many years ago and our grown sons are still good friends. We’ve spoken on the phonea few times but I rarely see her, partly because she’s battling a serious illness.

I enjoy walking through the neighborhoods admiring the cute houses.

New Year’s Resolutions

newyear
I’m usually pretty quick with a comeback, but last week when a man asked me what my plans for 2016 were, I was tongue-tied. A new year already? was all I could think.

I realized 2016 was quickly descending upon me, but I’d been too busy to contemplate it. Or a classic case of denial? How could an entire year lapse so quickly? I’m not ready for 2015 to end. Once again, my brain will flounder as I pause before I write the number 2016 on checks and documents.

Then there’s the question of New Ye...

Happiest Time of the Year

As I sat on hold for 15 minutes trying to reach a department store online website, it occurred to me I was not enjoying the holiday spirit. I’d decided to take advantage of the Black Friday sales and got online, only to be frustrated when the website went on strike and wouldn’t give me my discount. I enjoy giving gifts and had gone to a great deal of thought to place the order. Was saving 30% really worth the time and energy? I started second-guessing everything. Had I selected the right gift...

Guest post from Pamela Jarrell

PLEASE WELCOME “Whoopie Pie Pam” Jarrell!

Thanks for inviting me to drop by your blog today.

I have always been an avid reader. When I discovered my first “plain” book, I knew I was hooked. My interactions with the Amish world go back approximately 15 years. Through the introduction of an Amish family that my parents had become friends with, a whole new world opened up to me. A world that has brought me to who I am today … “Whoopie Pie” Pam. Aptly named by a sweet Amish man who told me that i...
