Guest Post from Ane Mulligan

PLEASE WELCOME ANE MULLIGAN

Home to my sisters

On a hot July, I opened my email which contained a question that irrevocably changed my life:“Are you the Ane Mulligan looking for your birthmother, Elsie Vauna Mullvain?”

I’d always known I was adopted. From the day mom and dad brought me home at three months old, they told me I was a chosen baby. However, I can’t say I was never curious about my birth parents; I was. For one thing, I didn’t look like anyone. I became a people watcher, always won...

Good Neighbors

My husband and I just got home from a short walk. There were many folks outside gardening and gathering their yard recycle for tomorrow morning’s pickup.

This 19641/2 Mustang reminded me of Holly's car in _Forever Amish_! I suspect my husband enjoyed talking about it more than gardening.

I think my husband was surprised by how many neighbors I know. When our sons lived at home, I assumed I knew my neighbors because the local children played together or saw each other at school. Later, af...

Motivation VS Discipline

I wonder what motivates the Amish to work so hard. Can you think of a group of more industrious and disciplined people? What inspires them?

AmishFarmerBuggies

What motivates Old Order Amish farmers to obey the strict rules of their church district’s Ordnung?

I recently read on Facebook: “So much to do, so little desire to do it.” The words struck me because although desire is a good jumping-off point, it can’t accomplish a task. Many of us want a beautiful garden, but we don’t prepare the soil or select the pla...

Are you thinking: Oh, goody, we get to pay our federal taxes even though we won’t decide where the money goes? Yesterday, the oldie Beatles song Taxman swam through my head as I gathered my writing expenses receipts. Fortunately, my husband’s accountant knows what he’s doing and is hones...
