A Single Serve Berry Crostata Recipe

A Single Serve Berry Crostata Recipe

Here’s the last of the single serve recipes you didn’t know you needed.  So far we’ve made a single cinnamon roll, two giant chocolate chip cookies, and two lemon poppy seed muffins.  Last weekend while visiting my parents in Los Angeles my very own mother said, “I don’t get these single recipes,” and fair enough mom – fair enough.  She’s a double-batch, store-in-the-freezer mother and I respect it.

Let It Sunday, 376!

Let It Sunday, 376!

I see a lot of, let’s say, regrettable takes online. I’m on Twitter, for god’s sake. But I saw one this week about how my new favorite movie, Fire Island, is an F- (lolz) on the Bechdel test. Friends, if you glean nothing more from me this week, please know that if a group of marginalized people make a movie together about their lived experience and they don’t also include two women talking to each other, it can still be a great movie.

Small Batch Muffin Recipe: Lemon Poppy Seed

Small Batch Muffin Recipe: Lemon Poppy Seed

I could argue that the very foundation of Joy the Baker is this recipe for Browned Butter Blueberry Muffins. Taking it aaaalll the way back to 2009 when I stumbled upon the wonder’s of browned butter and juicy baked blueberries.  You loved them. I loved them so much they made it into my first cookbook and 13 very delicious years later, here we are making a teeny tiny small batch muffin recipe – equally perfect but now reflective of the fact that I’m in my 40’s and will tolerate less nonsense, less leftovers, and less frivolous people eating my perfect muffins.

Let It Be Sunday, 375!

Let It Be Sunday, 375!

A question was put out into the Joy the Baker-verse a couple weeks ago, “What are you into these days?” and you answered with gusto. This feels like the end of a PBS show where they say, “This episode was made possible… from viewers like you!” but it’s true! Your favorite things made today’s Let It Be Sunday. The Joy the Baker community is truly something special, and it’s amazing to see all of your recommendations.

How To Make The Best Single Serve Cinnamon Roll

How To Make The Best Single Serve Cinnamon Roll

Micro batch baking – the invitation is to get all the way into it with me!  This is all very Kristin Wiig  making herself a single, sad cupcake in the movie Bridesmaids, save for the fact that there is absolutely zero sadness in me eating a single cinnamon roll over the kitchen sink in my pajamas.  This is, in fact, what I call luxury.  This single-serve cinnamon roll deserves a proper home and printable recipe here on the blog before I decide if this whole series is an ebook or a zine something – this really is something (and a proper cookbook would take too long).

A Recipe For Just Two Giant Chocolate Chip Cookies

A Recipe For Just Two Giant Chocolate Chip Cookies

I accidentally went down a rabbit hole a few weeks back.  One afternoon, in a sweet tooth induced mania, I made a small batch of truly giant chocolate chip cookies. The cookie dough came together in a small saucepan, the chocolate almost too melty, and the cookies about the size of my literal face. They were truly unhinged for small batch baking so, of course, I must now share these cookies with all of you.

Let It Be Sunday, 374!

Let It Be Sunday, 374!

Hello, friends!

I was all set to turn in my Sunday links to Joy a full day early because I finally had my act together. But then the massacre at Robb Elementary school happened and I, like all of you, felt gutted. The world is chaotic and shows no sign of slowing down. I feel sadness and anger and, at the same time, gratitude. There’s still so much love out there.

Bacon Jalapeno Smashed Chicken Burgers

Bacon Jalapeno Smashed Chicken Burgers

Allow me to sneak in at the start of your holiday weekend, here at the unofficial beginning of summer (and my favorite weekend of the year) with a humble but high-key FANTASTIC chicken burger. This is one of those smash burger recipes that once you know, you cannot unknow.  This will color your burgers for the rest of your days and… you’re welcome.

All the gratitude and genius goes to cookbook author, Ali Slagle, and her new book, I Dream of Dinner (so you don’t have to)

My favorite Coconut Cake is actually made with cake mix

My favorite Coconut Cake is actually made with cake mix

The rule is – on your birthday you can have absolutely any cake you want.  It’s one of those inalienable rights.  I have to fess up to something.  As a constant baker, cookbook author, and butter enthusiast my favorite birthday cake is actually…. anything made with cake mix.  I know, I know. You can fuss at me all you need to. BUT today is my birthday which I suppose makes this cake my birthright.

Let It Be Sunday, 373!

Let It Be Sunday, 373!

This week I’ve been thinking about how easy it is to fill a house.

When I first moved into my Bywater house, six years ago now – I marveled at the fact that I was one person sleeping in a house with TWO beds (baby’s first guest room and I’m baby).  I splurged on having the closets organized with shelves and rods and thought – I’ll never fill these up. How could I ever?
