Back-to-School Favorites From Team Joy the Baker

Back-to-School Favorites From Team Joy the Baker

Hi friends!

We at Team JTB splurge on a few things for ourselves this Back to School season. It’s after Labor Day – there’s no denying we’re back at it and there’s nothing like a new pair of tennies and a fresh backpack, right? Here are our favorite luxuries this September because pencil cases aren’t just for kids… do children even use pencils anymore? Don’t answer that.

Joy Wilson, creator

The vibe:  colorful, cleaned out, and oversized.

Let It Be Sunday, 384!

Let It Be Sunday, 384!

Hello! I hope this post doesn’t find you. I hope you’re on a boat, at a backyard barbecue, curled up on the couch with a good book, or in Houston buying horse art for the apartment you’re decorating to be closer to your boyfriend. Hi, Joy! Wherever you are this holiday weekend, I hope these links find you when you’re back at work, looking for a distraction before you tackle your inbox.

• Let’s get right to it.

One-Pot Stovetop Nashville Hot Chicken

One-Pot Stovetop Nashville Hot Chicken

This One-Pot Stovetop Nashville Hot Chicken recipe is an easy and satisfying weeknight meal baked with pickle rice and topped with a sweet heat spice glaze! Grab your Le Creuset and let’s make dinner!

If you’ve ever had a plate of Nashville’s original hot chicken, you know what it means to cry at the lunch table.  We’re talking tears of joy, and tears of spice.  The original Nashville Hot Chicken recipe is an ample piece of fried chicken glazed with a fire spice sauce served on a slice of white bread with a few pickle chips, done most famously at Prince’s Hot Chicken Shack.

We’re Taking August Off

We’re Taking August Off

Friends, hello!

Welcome to the weird and wonderful month of August.  Some of you are sending your littles back to school this month and I still think that’s downright criminal.  School is supposed to start the Tuesday after Labor Day and I don’t know why the world changed so cruelly.

We’re talking a break this month! There won’t be any new posts up for the month of August.  We should all go outside and find the shadiest, breeziest spot to halfway fall asleep after a pizza picnic.

Let It Be Sunday, 383!

Let It Be Sunday, 383!

Apologies to anyone who thought I wasn’t going to spend 40% of this post talking about The Bear. Listen, here’s what you need to know about me, I love a bandwagon. My love language is hype. It’s the same reason I watch Love Island UK every year

Unrelated to my terrible taste in television, I’m thinking about expanding my pet family from 1 cat to 2 cats. Please leave me advice in the comments.

Fluffernutter Peanut Butter Cookies

Fluffernutter Peanut Butter Cookies

What we have here is my seemingly never ending quest towards the best peanut butter cookie recipe.  It would seem that, when it comes to peanut butter cookies, I can leave well enough alone until I realize there’s a bag of marshmallows in the pantry and I need to head to the store for milk, so I might as well grab a bag of peanut butter chips and eat a handful from the bag in the car on the way home.

Let It Be Sunday, 382!

Let It Be Sunday, 382!

Friends, hello, good Sunday to you!

We’re going to keep it cute and short this Sunday. While my body is here in Houston working this weekend, my head and and heart are still up in the Colorado mountains cruising down the winding roads on the back of Will’s bike. It’s called summer vacation and… turns out it’s a state of mind.

I hope this finds you rested and well.

Let it Be Sunday, 381!

Let it Be Sunday, 381!

Hello, hi!

If you’d like an immediate mood booster, follow this simple 3-step procedure:

Call one of your oldest friends at the last minute (this won’t work if you plan in advance)Head to one of the oldest dive bars in townOrder a ginger ale and a po’boy and proceed to catch up on ~life~

Additional notes: it helps if your friend has the gumption to commandeer the TV remote and change the channel to Columbo of all shows because, heck yeah, Peter Falk.

Easy Peaches and Cream Scones

Easy Peaches and Cream Scones

Friends, hi!  I’m sneaking into your summer weekend with a simple offering: peach scones. There’s not a fussy bit about this invitation.  I simply cannot bear formalities (or bras or any clothing that touches my body) this time of year.  The offering is to take a single ripe peach (you likely have one languishing in your crisper) and a pint of cold cream to make a tender little breakfast treat.

Tender in crumb, but also tender in spirit.

Let It Be Sunday, 380!

Let It Be Sunday, 380!

Last Sunday found me sitting on these damp stairs at Jessica’s place in St. Gabriel making pizzas in what looks like the blink of an eye in the Roccbox pizza oven. I get a lot of questions about that fancy little pizza oven and yes – it’s fantastic. It makes restaurant- quality pizza in your very own backyard in minutes. What most people (myself included) always forget to account for is the two days of stressing over the quality and rise of the pizza dough.
