Joy and Abby ate a bunch of Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream and you should too
Hello, friends! Over the past few weeks, JtB Editor Abby Mallett and I have been doing the laborious work of eating pint after pint of Jeni’s Ice Cream. Our incredibly tedious work has resulted in our deepest thoughts on some of Jeni’s most popular flavors.
Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream was founded by Ohio-based Jeni Britton in 2002. You’ll find her innovative flavors in pints in loads of grocery stores across the US, online, and in Jeni’s scoop shops nationwide.

Lemon Curd Easter Egg Sandwich Cookies
Spring has sprung here in New Orleans as evidenced by the number of weeds that emerged overnight in my backyard. This time of year has my fickle green thumb ready to tuck colorful annuals into pots and lovingly care for them until the summer months hit and the heat kills us all. I think I’m going to calm my fickle green thumb and stick to indoor crafting this year, but I’m tempted to keep the backyard grass tall and the flowering weeds blooming to hide Easter eggs.

Let It Be Sunday, 365!
Hello, friends!
Did you travel anywhere for spring break or do you have any trips planned for the summer? We went to Arizona, where we ate yuca fries, fried cactus, and rattlesnake sausage. My stomach is still recovering. We also met a cowboy named Jimmy who never steps foot in restaurants ‘cause his wife’s cooking is so good, it puts ‘em all to shame. “She makes a chicken fried steak that’s thicker than his leg,” he said, pointing to our 8-year-old.

Zucchini Crumble Coffee Cake
Friends, hi hello! I’m comin’ in hot with a perfect springtime brunch offering – a cinnamon coffee cake recipe with a zucchini twist.
But first let me address some of the concerns that might have popped up in the part of your brain that controls your sweet tooth. That little bugger is saying OK BUT WWWHHHYYYY ruin my cake with vegetables!? And to be honest – fair question. There is a small but mighty category of baked goods that insert vegetables into an otherwise sweet batter.

Potato Leek Quiche with No-Roll Crust
I had a few guests in town for Mardi Gras a few weeks back and I wouldn’t be me if I didn’t have a fridge packed with prepared food and snacks JUST IN CASE someone should so much as thiiiiiink they might be hungry. Feeding you is my love language and if I can’t feed you directly, then willing you to feed yourself with my recipes is my other love language. Today: a quiche recipe.

The Mood Is: Citrus
Is that sunlight past 6pm? Do I hear an actual bird chirping happily? Obviously, this is a fever dream because winter is 1000 years long. According to science. No, for real – spring is finally here! Hi buds! It’s your friendly editor, Abby here. There is a hopefulness spring brings, in spite of winter being long depending on where you’re from. Daffodils do it for me every year, they tend to bloom first, heralding the season, determinedly happy and bright even through the last winter snow.

Let It Be Sunday, 364!
Friends, hello and welcome to your Sunday. I hope there’s a big inhale and exhale for your lungs right now.
These weeks seem to be racing by but I’d like to press the pause button on these beautiful spring days. The shutters are open and the magnolias are thinking about blooming and the sun is late and long and more forgiving than it will be a few months from now. It’s just lovely and I’m going to try and slow myself down over the next few weeks.

Campari Gin Sour
Kick those feet up, friends. It’s the freakin weekend and boy have we earned a classic cocktail and a few days rest. Because I can’t leave well enough alone, I’ve taken the classic gin sour and added a bitter pinky hue with a splash of Campari. It’s the kind of cocktail that gets down and dirty, but still has its pinky up. We can do it all.
Classic sour cocktails are often shaken with a raw egg white creating a delightfully foamy top.

Chocolate Guinness Loaf Cake with Cream Cheese Frosting
It’s that time of year! Time to dye the rivers emerald green in honor of Ireland’s ride or die, St. Patrick! While I don’t need my rivers or my food tinted green, if the question is “Would you like an Irish beer?” the answer is a resounding “HECK YES!”. I had my first Guinness worth mentioning in Ireland actual and I saw the light. I was fortified, body and soul.
To celebrate alongside our Irish friends, I’ve poured a hearty amount of Guinness into a sturdy chocolate loaf cake and topped the dark chocolate cake with a cream cheese frosting infused with Irish cream.
