These are the cookies you should bake this weekend

These are the cookies you should bake this weekend

Hi friends! I have a half-written post Apple Cheesecake Bars slated for the blog today but I have to say… it doesn’t feel quite time yet. The mornings have the tiniest hint of chill in the air and I’ve been coaxed into wearing my new tik-tok-made-me-buy-it-flannel only to be sweating through it come 1pm.

Maybe some of you up north (I’m pointing up with my finger at you, Michigan) are out apple picking and wow, I really do love that for you.

A Week of Joy’s Family Dinners

A Week of Joy’s Family Dinners

Having kids is tricky. You have to feed them every day. Multiple times a day. Then, the more you feed them, the more they grow. The more they grow, the hungrier they get. The hungrier they get, the more opinions they start to have. And that, my friends, is where it gets complicated.

We have three of these hunger machines, aka kids, and it used to be that they’d eat whatever we put in front of them.

Let It Be Sunday, 387!

Let It Be Sunday, 387!

If you were to catch me a few days back on Thursday, you would have found me rather anxiously watching DanDanThe Fireman teach his wife how to ride a motorcycle on YouTube.  To be clear, I have my motorcycle license, but boy do I love a pep-talk and a plan.  I thought about taking out a petition to convince Will to ride with speakers in our helmets so he could coach me through the small corners and rolling hills of our upcoming ride in Fredericksburgh, TX but he’s a man of few words so i wouldn’t have been very chatty.

One-Pot Homemade Hamburger Helper with Sneaky Veggies

One-Pot Homemade Hamburger Helper with Sneaky Veggies

You’ll be making this homemade hamburger helper recipe for dinner at least once a month. It’s a hearty and comforting dish and jam packed with secret veggies. Not that we need to keep veggies a secret but… sometimes we do. Let’s make classic Helper from scratch! Your kids (or the child inside your heart) will just love it!

If you were raised in he 80’s and 90’s, I feel like you sat down to a dinner table of either Hamburger Helper or Stouffer’s Lasagna.

Let It Be Sunday, 386!

Let It Be Sunday, 386!

Hello, friends!

Have any of you figured out how to have a healthy relationship with social media? If so, please clue me in. This summer, I started the practice of deleting social apps during the week, which was good for my mental health + productivity. But then I’d hop on social media over the weekend and mainline it until my screen time report was sky high. Of course, sometimes the Internet is just too fun to sit on the sidelines.

September Summer Fresh Plum and Lemon Curd Cake

September Summer Fresh Plum and Lemon Curd Cake

I’ve been saving this plum cake recipe for just the right time.  I put my finger up to the breeze this morning and we’re here – we’ve reached peak In Between.

In Between is that time between summer and fall when I, for one, am changing out my scented candles from fresh and floral and pie and spice. This is when we as a people wrestle with our love of pumpkin spice everything.

My New Houston Kitchen

My New Houston Kitchen

Friends, hi hello!

If you keep up with me on Instagram, or if you’re my neighbor across the street in New Orleans,  you may have noticed that I’ve moved half of my life and all of my heart from New Orleans to Houston.  I’m headed back to big city (Houston is huge, y’all – I know because I get lost ALL THE TIME) for, well… LOVE and all the big feels  that comes with it.

Let It Be Sunday, 385!

Let It Be Sunday, 385!

Friends, hello and happy Sunday!  I have a feeling the new salvaged wood dining table I put in my new Houston TX living room is going to give me splinters.  There is such a thing as toooooo salvaged and this table might walk the line.  I’ll make sure my tetanus shot is up to date and report back. I’ll tell you more about my new space in a post tomorrow but for now please gaze upon this green wall I painted in my living room.

This is the Trail Mix I Always Have in My Purse

This is the Trail Mix I Always Have in My Purse

As I settle here in my forties, there is a single truth I’ve solidified: I need a snack.

I’ve impulse bought hundreds of dollars at Target enough times to know that if I’m in the world without a snack in my purse, my credit score is in danger.  Yes, the stakes are that high.   Because I am an adult in charge of preventing my own blood sugar dip, I ALWAYS have an array of snacks in my purse.
