Another new idea
This week is sort of a vacation from Stuff That Needs To Get Written (I have a book due Aug 1st, and plan to read through this weekend).. So yesterday and day before I was working on an idea for HQN, now today I've another idea, which comes before the one I was just working on, so I guess I'll give it a few days. This one is for a Nocturne proposal, so even though I just need to hand in a proposal, I like to start drafting out the story. If I can get to 100 pages, then I know I can ultimat...

A New Idea
This is how stories often develop for me. I start with a character, either hero or heroine and find them in a situation. Usually the middle of something. Like I know my hero has walked into a place where winter games are taking place (yes, a bit like the Olympics) and his competitive heart wants to join in—so he does. But he doesn't realize he's just stepped into the middle of a treacherous ploy to take over control of a werewolf pack (and he's never been in a pack, so the idea of being a...

Book trailers: Yay or nay?
Yeah, that green was freakin' me out. Had to get rid of it. So I'm working on a book trailer for SEDUCING THE VAMPIRE
, not because I think I need one to promote the book, but because I want to see if I can actually DO it. You know? I have absolutely no knowledge of GarageBand and iMovie, and I'm learning as I go. But I like doing things that way.

Rake that carpet!
I know, green. Whoda thought? One of the colors I hate most. I grew up in a green stucco house, then later moved to a green house out in the country. I think one of the first cars I recall my family having was green. The living room was always green. And then there's all that green variegated shag carpet throughout the house. My kids still can't believe I had to rake that carpet. And if we didn't want mom to know we'd been in the 'good' living room? Walk through with the carpet rake ...

It's so FLUFFY!
I saw Despicable Me yesterday. Loved it. How much do I love Agnes and her unicorn obsession? The movie reminded of the most basic of storytelling techniques that all writers should consider. When creating a hero (even an anti-hero like Gru) give him something he wants more than anything (stealing the moon) and then make him have to sacrifice it for something he won't admit makes his life better, but knows will (the three girls).
