Governor Perry: It’s Home School Week in Texas!
“Our young Texans are our greatest hope for a bright future. As such, it is imperative that we equip them with the tools necessary to succeed in the future, ensuring they are capable to seize opportunities and overcome challenges that come their way. The most important thing we can do to place them on the path to lifelong success is to give them a quality, well-rounded education.”
As a homeschooling mom, I have to send some major kudos to our governor!

Military rations for the kids …
My friend Jessica Scott is over in Iraq right now, but before she left, she spoke at our local RWA chapter about the military. It was a great talk, and almost makes me wish I had a military hero or heroine to write about!
The other cool thing about the talk was that, hey, I went away from it with a homeschool lesson for the kids! Because Jess brought some military rations for show and tell, and left them with us.
I meant to post this blog ages ago, so I’ve forgotten exactly what we had, but a

Acers and ipods and toys … oh my!
So, I’ve been delinquent in not only blogging, but in my promise to blog about how I’m getting along with my new Acer Netbook. Blame deadlines and a nasty, lingering, horrible flu (feel free to keep the sympathy coming, after all, the cough still lingers.)
This blog is about not only my Acer, but my other techno toys.
THE ACER – THUMBS UP
The bottom line: despite a few irritations, I absolutely LOVE my Acer. I have the Aspire One with the 3 cell battery, and though it only has a couple of hours

“Read the Best Movie That You’re Never Going to See - Cinematical.”
Okay, I haven’t finished the blog post I’d planned for today, but this is too funny not to blog.
Seriously.

“Publishing 911″ - this is a hoot!
As my plans to post a new and original exciting blog post today failed miserably, I’m linking to this post that absolutely made me chuckle. Seriously, check it out!

Operator: Publishing 911, what's your emergency?
Reader: Yes, this book I've been reading has, you know, something really bad in it.
Operator: What is the bad thing, ma'am?
Reader: I can't say that over the phone. But it's really, really bad.
Operator: I need to know what the bad thing is, ma'am, or I can't help you.

Back to blogging tomorrow, in the meantime …
I present to you, the original hamster dance, which just makes me grin!
Click the pic for the full dance and music.
(And in the meantime, I shall continue, valiantly, to battle my way out from under laundry, bills, and assorted bits of paper that seem to serve little purpose in my life but are taking up one heck of a lot of floor space.)

So what the heck ARE these things anyway
As I sit here taking a break from the WIP to review page proofs for an upcoming Harlequin anthology (Endless Summer, this July!), I realized that the pile of papers in front of me is referred to as an AA (I know this, b/c my editor told me she needed the AAs back by Monday).
I’ve been writing for Harlequin for ten years this June (gulp) and I just now realized that I have no idea what “AA” stands for.
Hmmm. Well, I guess ignorance is bliss!

Two years ago today …
Wow. It’s been two years since Isabella had her surgery to repair her cleft palate, and it’s still astounding to me how fast the time has passed and how much progress she’s made! Her speech is so clear! (And for those of you not in the know, having a palate repaired after you’ve already begun talking — or, rather, trying to talk — is a hard road to overcome. Lots of bad habits that must be unlearned. Isabella was 3 and a half when her palate was repaired.).
At any rate, in honor of my sweet

Good thoughts for little Yu!
Our family is helping to sponsor the medical care for a little boy in China named Yu, who has some serious heart issues.
Here’s the most recent picture we received (isn’t he precious?) and a note about his condition.
We have received a short update from the hospital on Yu. They indicate he is still undergoing pre-op testing at this time. We haven’t received any specific test results yet, but they have told us that his heart condition is very serious. He is also still having lots of problems with

Who else but my kid would be this happy about a cockroach?
So check out this candid shot of Catherine holding a cockroach at a recent girl scout “thinking day.” As she tells it, everyone else was “like, ick, but I was … cockroach? yay!” And I think the picture captures that enthusiasm! Me, I’m with the “ick” crowd!
