Walking on Broken Glass

Here is a picture of what we woke up to at 5:30am this morning…
That would be the back of David's jeep, with the back window smashed into fragments of black glass all over the street. Apparently someone (who was driving a white pickup truck) decided that even though they couldn't see into the jeep there MIGHT be something worthwhile to steal from the back of it (even though the alarm LED was flashing).
Little did they know that when they smashed in the glass all they would find ...

There are Too Many People on the Earth

I have big concerns for the stability of the planetary crust. Not only are we blasting past 7 BILLION people on the planet (remember when it was a big deal ten+ years ago when child # 6 Billion was born?), but a lot of those 7 billion people are also obese.
This is old news now: The world's population is forecast to hit 7 billion next year, the vast majority of its growth coming in developing and, in many cases, the poorest nations, a report released Wednesday said. A...
Charmin Ultra now with Flag Softness

When you need to wipe, you need to wipe.
I think we've all been in situations that weren't exactly pleasant when we reached for the toilet paper and it was gone. It could be that you just forgot to replace it from the last time you were in the bathroom, or it could be that the person who used the facility before you used it all up and was insensitive to the needs of the next user. (Note: you can use the reverse pickle-claw to reach into the toilet paper dispenser and retrieve...

Gambling makes me sad.

Michael and Angela were out for a visit a couple weeks back and we hit up the casinos in South Lake Tahoe for a couple hours one night. Michael and I are big fans of blackjack – and our current record (which will likely never be broken by us again) is 14 hours at the blackjack tables in Sparks, NV at the Nugget.
We were there so long we actually went through every pit boss and dealer back to the ones we started with. I do think we paused for dinner at one point (which was...

Ridiculous Spam.

I recently modified some settings on my blog to allow comments on articles much older than 15 days. I wanted to see what would happen to the volume of spam that I typically get on this thing.
The volume definitely increased by about 500%, but the "quality" of the SPAM also increased. I just got one a few minutes ago and it was so ridiculous that I wanted to share it.

Idol 2010 – Top 9 Again.

I had wanted to do an extensive article about how awesome it was to see Adam Lambert, and how great it was to see him work with Siobhan, and how consistent Crystal Bowersox is, and what a good decision it was for the judges to save Michael Lynche, and how hot Lee Dewyze is, and how tired I am of the group sing, and how much I can't stand the kick-off show for all its delays and fakeouts, and how much I'm tired of the judges getting introduced and it being so evident that...

Idol 2010 – Top 9 Recap

This will be the first of two Top 9 Recaps, because SPOILER ALERT – the judges used their precious "save" to save Michael Lynche who was surprisingly in the bottom three.
Even more surprising, none of the females were in the bottom three – I wasn't really surprised since I think all three of them did a great job with their Lennon/McCartney songs, but still…they had to tease us with SOMETHING that SOMEONE might be shocked about.
I'm not going to spend much time on the first Top 9...

Acid washed genes.

Deoxyribonucleic acid, that is. My genes are awash with the stuff. And now it has the stain fighting power of bleach!
No, not really – but it felt like the appropriate title for this article which is the second in my "What's in Heath's Genes?" series.
A month ago I spit in a cup and sent it off to be tested – if you don't recall that you can read more about it in What's in your genes? Well my results are in and I have already spent several hours learning all sorts of...

Getting my Ski on.

It's been a LONG time since I have been able to ski – probably 5 years or so. Thankfully since I had the arthroscopy last year I am now able to get back onto the slopes, and what better excuse for skiing again than visiting some friends from out of town?
Michael and Angela Waters came out for a quick trip and so we met them in Tahoe for fun in the snow – and that included a trip to Sierra at Tahoe for some skiing.
Here's a quick video of me on the slopes for the first time in...

Got Woods? Nope.

This post is not about Tiger Woods.
There. I've said what needed to be said, because seriously it seems like EVERY SINGLE NEWS OUTLET CAN NOT STOP TALKING ABOUT TIGER WOODS AS IF HE IS AS IMPORTANT AS UNIVERSAL HEALTHCARE!
As difficult as it might be to wrap our collective heads around this – there really are more interesting and important things to talk about than Tiger Woods. Heck, I don't even like golf. I barely like mini-golf (mostly because I'm not very good at it). Why...
