Latin Names Required

I love how so many of these witches books and sites will list herbs that can be used for this or that, and when it comes to giving them a name, they just use their folk names.

This is kinda dangerous.  Let me tell you why. Yesterday on a witchy FB wall someone posted the healing properties of a plant called Keys of Heaven. Well – the only Keys of Heaven I've ever seen are red, and the flowers on the picture she posted were yellow. Obviously, she was talking about Cowslip, also called K...

Little Surprises

Last night while watering the plants I was met with a lot of little surprises. Not just a multitude of blooms on all of my flowering veggie plants, but I discovered the peach tree had green shoots, the lemon tree had new shoots and leaves, and the banana tree had also sprung a new shoot. Good thing, too. I thought the bananas were a goner (because the two original leaves were starting to brown and shrivel up). Ironic how just when I began feeling like my hard work watering, feeding, and...

The Art of Goal Setting

If there is an exact science to getting anything done, I suppose it comes down to goal setting. Once a week I make a list and then  I try to hold myself accountable to the list so that crap gets done. This isn't just on the writing front. It carries over to other aspects in my life as well. Have an appointment to set up? It goes on the weekly goal list. It works simply by providing positive reinforcement through a sense of accomplishment. The more things I cross off my list, the better I...

Rough Week So Far

I think I've spread myself a bit thin. Between taking back over the initial design of demonolatry.org and setting up the contributor stuff – my writing went right out the window last night. Not to mention stuff at the day job has been obnoxious and we have family in from out of town (going to dinner with them tonight). So no writing will get done tonight. I am feeling like a lazy bum.

Now I'm off like a herd of turtles to get that second payroll out and to try to make myself feel like I've...

Organization

So last night I was messing with organization and ideas for the demonolatry.org site after the new webmaster told me how difficult it was the keep up with the forum and website. I think it was a cry for help.

Then I remembered back to my own volunteer days when I was running the site and what a pain in the arse it was to continually update the website. Then I thought of my previous sites to this one and how much of a pain they were to keep up with. And I understood his problem.

That's when I...

The "What If" Factor

All creative people have what I call the "What If" Factor working within them. That is, the ability to look at something and say, "What if…" and from that viewpoint have a vision of what could be. Then – they create it. My husband has this ability to do this with music and landscaping.  I have the ability to look at any situation, a person, or idea and find a story in it. An artist friend of mine can look at a blank canvas and have it filled in her head long before her brush ever touches...

Abyss: Daemonolatry Hymns for Ritual & Meditation

Abyss: Daemonolatry Hymns for Ritual & Meditation

A collection of music containing traditional hymns and chants for Daemonolatry ritual and meditation. Please note that all of this was recorded in a home studio. Also note that the collection is only about 13 minutes long. It's well worth the price for serious practitioners. Includes Meleus De Quo Magna, Rite to Lucifer, Hymn to Leviathan, Liturgy of Love, Meditation, and Earth Meditation. Each hymn is presented with music (except Hymn to...

Don't Judge a Person by Their Profession

Yeah – this is a post along the lines of don't judge a book by its cover.  My mom and I were talking earlier this week about how some people tend to judge others by their career. This was after her surgeon made some pretty low-cutting comments about my mom's profession. "Now I can say I know people in low places," was his exact comment evidently.

See, my family owns and runs two towing companies. Pretty good sized, reputable companies at that. In fact my father is nationally known in the...

Author Profile: Lisa Adams

I first met Lisa back in 2005 when we both had publishing contracts with ArcheBooks Publishing alongside writers like Dana Reed and P.M. Griffin. We ended up sitting on panels together at the Rocky Mountain Fiction Writer's Colorado Gold Conference that year. Good times. Sadly, it turned out our publisher wasn't all that and a bag of chips, so we both ended up rescinding our contracts and moving on to greener pastures. Me to Darkerwood Publishing and Lisa to Village Green Press.  This year...
