Things the World Needs More Of
- Hats. I love fashionable hats. I really think people should wear them more. I saw a woman wearing a pink, wide brimmed hat the other day. I thought it was awesome. I wonder if I could pull off a breezy summer hat with a blue swath of sheer fabric tied around the side band.
- Soft things. I think everyone should have at least one really soft thing. Soft things are very soothing.
- Warm Fuzzies (maybe even hugs). In my silly wanna-be-an-idealist way – I just wish everyone could get along and...

Here's the Skinny…
I have a bone to pick with modern Western culture.
I'm SO tired of people thinking, saying and acting like skinny (as in a healthy BMI) equals healthy. Ha!
No, it's habits that are or aren't healthy. A target BMI should be viewed as a RESULT of doing healthy things. Not necessarily a measure of being healthy. Let me tell you why.
From ages 0-32 – I had a perfectly on-target BMI. I was always the thin, gorgeous chick all the overweight women envied. I never lacked for a date. Even being curvy...
Grammatical Perfection
There are some folks out there who truly believe writers should write perfect prose 100% of the time. That we should never make spelling errors. That we should have perfect grammar and usage at all times. Even on Facebook and Twitter. Damn fragments.
Well, that's not the reality. Sure, most serious writers make it a point to have a good grasp of the language beyond the average person's. However, don't expect that we're all members of the grammar police. I'm not. I've been known to break the...

Dear Diary…
My post yesterday about bizarre criticisms turned into a conversation among my writing group. "What was the strangest criticism you ever received?" I figured it would be a fun blog post. For me the strangest criticism would have to be when a critic complained that one of my my esoteric books read like a personal diary. As opposed to what? A recipe book? A book of facts? I suppose my books are kind of written like magickal journals. But so are most esoteric books. I hardly see how that's a...

Reading Reviews
With ebooks I've noticed a growing trend. It seems some readers will write a review based on the price of a book or on the merit of a few typos. I really started noticing this after a girlfriend of mine contacted me not too long ago. She was upset that a reviewer had said one of her novels was "riddled with typos," which ultimately meant, to this reviewer, "This writer can't write."
I felt for her. I've read the book and I only noticed a couple of typos. It certainly wasn't riddled with...

Confessions of a Closet "Girl"
I've never been a girly-girl. Most people, when describing me, might even use the word tomboy. I don't generally wear makeup (or a lot of makeup anyway). I'm not into dresses. I have never been one for shopping etc…
However, as I've gotten older I've found myself developing a taste for the color pink. I'm finding that there are some instances where I'm actually enjoying clothes shopping. ::shrug:: I spend a bit more time considering makeup and body care products, too. Mostly because with...

The Growing Stack on the Headboard
While most of the fiction I read is on my kindle (and it often goes where I go) for whatever reason there's always a collection of paperbacks sitting on the headboard, too. I generally read a few books at a time unless I'm working hard and heavy on a revision. While I'm initially writing I can read just about anything. And I do. Right now, sitting on my headboard is everything from horror (Richard Matheson's Hell House) to literature (The Club Dumas by Arturo Perez-Reverte), to NF (one...

Holy Posts Batman!
I actually forgot to write my Friday post. O_O (
It's been a pretty low key week. Just plugging away at *Into Darkness*. DH and I actually got a few miles of walking in though we'd like to work up to 10 miles a week (at least). Perhaps more. Once I get my new bike maybe we'll start taking some weekend day trips on some of the bike trails. I'm looking forward to it. Thinking of doing a test-run private hot dog roast tomorrow night, and maybe even watching Insidious at some p...

Graphics
I've been playing around with some site graphics. So if you see them constantly changing, this is why. I have yet to really find a combination I like yet and when I find something fun I'll stick with it for awhile. Then, when I'm bored, I'll likely change it again. I actually have fun playing with graphics. It's kind of like book trailers. I don't actually think they help sell books (or maybe they do?) but they do give me an alternative creative outlet to express my vision of the book. Site ...
