Mail File: Naughty Bits

Here's more mail from Anne O'Connell fans, which means it's time to talk kink and bdsm. Yeah – you heard me. While it's easier in a lot of ways to keep my blog + site for all four pen-names together, it does mean this blog can't be all about erotica, or all about writing, or all about the occult. It kind of has to be all three. It's the price I pay for streamlining.

Now onto the questions!

Why don't you blog about your personal experiences with bdsm? A lot of other bdsm authors do.

I promised...

Open the Floodgates!

A lot of creative people are somewhat manic. Sadly I'm one of them. My creative bursts happen in cycles. I may furiously produce a hundred thousand words in one month, fifty-five thousand the next, and then ten thousand words for three months in a row.  My creative productivity has highs and lows.

Like a lot of creative people I'm also a bit moody. My moods have highs and lows, too. When I'm not producing I find myself frustrated and struggling with depressed feelings. When I'm having an...

l'enfer, c'est les autres

"Hell is other people" — Sartre

Indeed, Sartre. Indeed.

I was going to leave you with something more profound, better written and far more thought provoking, but the truth of the matter is I have nothing profound to say today. Have a great Monday!

Some Interesting Facts

Some interesting facts I've learned from watching my webstats…

People don't like to read entire threads or take a moment to search anything. One of the things that drives a lot of people to my website is my world-building pdf. However, they're all using a broken link. So I went over to the web forum where the broken link is posted and I posted the updated link. No one scrolls down to find the updated link. Nor do they use the searchbox once they get here to see if they can find the file. It's ...

How Would You React?

I'm currently focused on my novel Thirteen Covens.  I probably shouldn't admit this but as a life-long occultist I tend to deal with a lot of groups and people (and consequently their emo drama) and let me tell you – a lot of it is wonderful fodder for fiction. Any group really (occult related or not). So late last summer after hearing some seriously wild group drama stories I started thinking, "Wouldn't it be interesting to stick thirteen covens (who don't really get along) into the same...

A Dose of Writing Reality From A Bitchy Broad

NOTE: This article is for self-published authors or those planning to self-publish!

Okay – a few things need to be said to the aspiring authors (those who plan to self-publish) out there. If you want readers to take your work as seriously as you do there are a few things you have to do …

Get a professional cover or at least try to make your cover look good. Pixelated artwork, garish colors, and cheesy fonts will not attract readers. Readers may even pass your book over because of it (even if...

Magic Squares

I don't know why but I've been thinking a lot about magick squares since reading an interview with Nineveh Shadrach, author of the Occult Encyclopedia of Magic Squares. I read the reviews of the book, amazed at the bad ones. So naturally I am going to buy the book based on the bad reviews (since it seems those complaining wanted hand holding and didn't get it – I'm sympathetic to an author who gets reviews like that).

Of course all of this caused me to ask myself how I viewed the magick...

Communication Error

Have you ever had one of those weeks where it seems people (on social networking sites) are constantly taking what you say wrong? Or perhaps they're just misunderstanding what you're saying?  Well, I had one of those weeks last week. Looking back I can see where maybe what I wrote could have been misconstrued. Or perhaps I was misinterpreting their response to what I said? Either way, the problem with purely written communication is that if you aren't precise in what you say, there is always ...

The Quadrant Store Updated

I've gone and updated The Quadrant Store today.  Now you can get a lot (not all) of my eBooks directly from me for your Nook, Kindle, or Sony Reader. Some books also have PDF versions available. Sadly I can't carry all of them due to size constraints. My store software allows minimal file sizes. If there is a book you want in eBook format and it's not included here, contact me and we can likely work out an arrangement for you to pay me and then me to email the book to you. I cannot do this...

Sexism in Magick

I'd like to address an interesting phenomena that's been bugging me as of late. And no – don't take this post as me whining or screaming discrimination. I'm not. I'm just shedding light on something that exists and a lot of people don't talk about.

In general and overall – I'd say there's very little sexism (if any) among enlightened magicians. I generally don't run into sexism at all. Because of this, imagine my surprise and shock when I do encounter it. Make no mistake about it, folks...
