Breaking the Block
One of the most common questions I get is how to break writer’s block. I suppose I get this question a lot becauseI’m one of those writers who’s rather prolific. My other writer friends watch me produce book after book and wonder how the heck I do it. Truthfully, I wasn’t always this way. I labored over my first novel for fourteen years before I finally finished it and sold it. I actually re-wrote it three times during those fourteen years. It took me a few years to get to the point where I’m...

The Art of Baffling With Bullshit
Pretty sentences are worthless if they only serve to cloak a rather simple principle in mystery, and make it sound more intellectual and complicated than it really is.
I find a lot of limited edition occult books do this these days.
They take 101 material, wrap it in a lot of big words and fancy metaphors, and sell it as 401. This works because, of those people who buy these books now, over 3/4 of them won’t be practicing ten years from now anyway. Basically – it’s a beginner’s market. It alway...

There once was a man from Nantucket…
No, I’m not finishing the limerick. Besides, I’m pretty sure most of you finished it in your head already. Perverts.
Really what’s on my mind today is communication, mercury retrogrades, and astrology. Earlier this month I wrote a post about learning to shut the hell up, which was inspired by my astrology forecast for the month. So far, the astrologer I trust has been dead on with her reading, like usual.
So this month, on the 29th specifically, she said that while I might be tempted to spea...

The Brass Vessel
So I wanted to talk about the Brass Vessel, spirit vessels in general, and magick lamps because I think some folks really misunderstand (IMO) what these things are. Clearly a lot of people look at magick lamps and brass vessels and we think of genii. You rub the lamp, the genii trapped in the lamp pops out and gives you three wishes. After that – the genii goes back to his lamp until the next person comes along. The moral of these stories always being, “Be careful what you wish for.”
But the f...

Excerpt: Her Demon Lover
A little teaser from Her Demon Lover. Please note this excerpt has not been edited as of yet. What you’re getting here is the raw, unfiltered excerpt directly from the pre-edited MS. Her Demon Lover is slated for release this spring (i.e. within the next 2-3 months). This preview is approved for all audiences.
She felt compelled to open the door a little, to be polite. “Yes, can I help you?”
He held out his hand and said in the most beautiful, deep accent she’d ever heard, “I’m Michael O’Siad....

March Madness: The Art of Organization
I’ve had a lot to say in the past 36 hours despite another fun sinus headache and despite the undeniable chaos that is my life. Well, mental chaos anyway. The more mental chaos I have, the more I blog. It’s just how it works.
There’s a lot going on in my life at the moment, and while not all of it demands physical participation, I do tend to devote a great deal of mental time to certain things. Like worrying about family members currently suffering health issues. I have several family members...
Indie Author Orgs & The Temple of Exclusivity
But not exclusivity for exclusivity’s sake. Let’s face it – there are two types of published writers out there. No, not traditional and indie. Rather I was thinkingsuccessfuland unsuccessful. To be fair – both groups likely want different things from their writing organizations.
The authors who aren’t successful are wanting to learn how to be more successful, and the authors who are already successful are wanting to find ways to maximize profits, increase efficiency and time management, and ke...

To Keep Silent
This month I’ve been ruminating on this particular power of the Sphinx. To Keep Silent.
This isn’t just applicable to magick. I’m learning that it can be applied to ALL aspects of one’s life, and while keeping my magick under wraps is easy for me, shutting the hell up and keeping my damned opinions to myself just isn’t something I’m good at. If I think it, I say it. That level of honesty is not a good thing. It tends to piss folks off.
While I am not so concerned about my big, horribly honest m...
