The Art of Pretending Awesome
I’ve never been a good actress. I’m most known for telling it like it is and being a straight shooter. It runs in my family. None of us mince words, beat around the bush, or are good at pretending everything is awesome when it’s not.
I have a lot of writer, musician, and artist friends who’ve gotten rather good at the art of pretending awesome. That’s where you act as if your life is straight out of a fairy tale 24/7 and everything is perfect and peachy keen. Or that nothing bothers you or ups...

Noise
Lately I’ve been hearing a lot of noise from pagans who are upset at how the media portrays witches, magicians, and/or pagans. Especially with shows like American Horror Story: Coven, and Witches of East End, among others.
Or I see my FB feed rampant with how this group or that group makes everyone else in X tradition look bad. Or how what one person is doing reflects poorly on all of us.
IMNSHO, this is along the lines of someone chastising pagans who don’t worship or view...

Pinning Down Inspiration
One of my favorite writing quotes of all time: “You can’t wait for inspiration. You have to go after it with a club.” — Jack London
To me it embodies all that it means to be a professional writer. Only hobby writers have time to sit around waiting for inspiration and lament about writer’s block. Those who do it for a living, however, sit their asses in the chair and write, even when they’re not inspired.
Don’t take that to mean I undervalue the importance of inspiration. After all, the smallest...

No Novel Madness November
2007 was the last year I officially participated inNaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month). I succeeded in pushing out a 60K novel that year. The novel was Warrior’s Blood Red, the second book in the Sorcerers’ Twilight trilogy.
Every year since then I’ve kind of done an unofficial NaNo where I work on projects in progress and cheer on friends. Long gone are the days where I have the luxury of having November off to work on a new project. I suppose we can say I’ve kind of outgrown NaNoWriMo....

The Moon in Cancer
Things kind of snap into place when the Moon falls into Cancer because the Moon is Cancer’s natural home. For next few days it’s good time to deal with things on the home front, and address emotional concerns.
Yes, it’s during a Mercury retrograde, but look – Mercury retrograde simply stifles communication and causes electronics to go wonky (more or less). There are some positives to a retrograde, too, like being able to finish up projects, refine things you’re working on, find lost things, an...
