2018 Publishing Schedule (Tentative) #goals

2017 was a bust for me. From June onward I was so busy focusing on in-person signings, conventions, parties and public speaking, that actual writing took a back seat while I juggled communication, planning, marketing, and prep work for said conventions.  I only managed the equivalent of ONE novel last year, down from my usual two or three (plus novellas, articles, NF, and short stories). Granted it was twice the length of one of my usual novels.  This has taught me one thing — first, I need t...

December Meditation Challenge Research #DoMagick

As someone who regularly meditates 15-20 minutes a night, usually a half hour before bed, this challenge has actually been hard for me with regard in deciding how to approach it. How can I put a spin on something I’ve been doing with regularity for years?

The answer was right in front of my face. A few weeks back I was having lunch with a writer friend and we were talking about writing and procrastination – and Meditation. She told me about a book she was reading (or rather listening to) tha...

Keeping Silent: Shutting Your Mouth For Every Occasion

I started working with Daemons back in 1984. I was a stupid, smart-assed, know it all kid back then.  I read every book I could find on the subject, coined myself an occult expert among all my friends, and considered myself special because surely – no one knew as much about the occult as me. Four years later, in 1988 – my ego got knocked down a few pegs when I discovered that there were other, more experienced people involved in the occult. And things I thought I knew were not things I had di...

#Nanowrimo 2017

So Wednesday (I guess that’s today) begins National Novel Writing Month (Nanowrimo, or sometimes Nano, to the seasoned veterans out there). For anyone writing a novel in November, that means approximately 1,700 words a day for thirty straight days. The goal is to reach 50,000 words, which is the minimum threshold for a short commercial novel.

This month I’m working on getting the bones of Falling From Grace into the word processor. I have my outline, but since I’m at the office today, and tod...

When Networking Starts Impeding Progress

My key phrase for the last month has been:

Writing the next book is a writer’s first priority.

This weekend, while at lunch with a fellow writing friend, we talked about volunteering for writing associations at which time she let it slip that she was involved in three other writing groups aside from the one we were both in.  At the past M&P show, a lovely writer I met there told me about two organizations she was in, plus an in-person critique group, and she was planning on joining our orga...

Fiction vs. Real World Occult

It never ceases to amaze me the questions I receive in my email where people have blurred the lines between fiction vs. real-world occult. Or perhaps it doesn’t amaze me so much as saddens me. For some people, there’s a real disconnect between reality and pure fantasy. They are willing to believe that fictional accounts like Marlowe’s Dr. Faustus, Milton’s Paradise Lost, and Dante’s Inferno are all factual accounts, when in fact — all of them are fictional fabrications. Fantastical fantasies...

Why Divination Can’t Predict Lottery Numbers #Lenormand #Readings

Today I decided to take a few moments away from my writing time to do a career reading for myself. I just asked about my general career. I didn’t get specific. I only pulled three cards, but they actually had a lot to say. Anchor is the middle card, so I’ll read that first and then the one to the left (House), and the one to the right (Birds).

House – The house itself is a sign of security and comfort, and in career, represents a home-based business or a family business. Both of these ring t...

Great #Halloween Reads!

It’s that time of year again where I feel a need to do a horror film marathon, and read as many creepy books as possible.  On my Halloween watchlist each year, Spellbinder, Skeleton Key, The Baby’s Room, Rosemary’s Baby (original), The Omen (original), The Exorcist (original), Insidious 2 (better than the first one), The Conjuring 1 & 2, and the original Amityville Horror. These are always good go to’s. If it’s blood and gore I want, I’ll watch the original Halloween, Rob Zombie’s Halloween r...
