How I Screwed Up #DoMagick & A Project

So September was a shitty month for #DoMagick. I just had too many things going on to make the blogging end of things happen.  Numerous events also derailed my yoga practice a few days here and there, thus breaking that chain of “daily” practice. Had I been smart, I would have just done meditation (though that would have been cheating).  It was just an off month full of too many events, and October will be no better. I am, literally, booked solid until November. This is the wonder of Sorath....

How to Run With the Big Dogs…. or Cats

Recently I’ve watched a few fellow creatives melt-down on Facebook. Yikes!  Remember my post about pretending awesome? I raged against it, too, but have begun to submit to it. Yeah, it gets easier with practice, and while I’m only human and slip up, I’d like to pass on some advice to those younger folks just starting out in any creative field, whether you’re a writer, artist, or musician….

So there are a few rules when it comes to any creative career where you’re in the public spotlight. Whet...

Day Two: Rushed Morning #DoMagick

I felt a little rushed this morning because I had a book release and an online event to oversee (among other things), so admittedly I moved through the sequence a little faster today and did around 14 minutes instead of twenty, with only five repetitions instead of nine. It did help to curb my anxiety.

That said, the Sorath model is still throwing public appearances at me, but this time, not the huge events. Smaller, more personal events, which is nice.  I am going to let this configuration s...

Day One: Play it Again, Sam! Do-over #DoMagick

Okay, here we again. Though at this point I’ve modified the work for simplicity. My friend, Will, suggested I do just one pose per day while concentrating on a Daemon and hold it (Corpse Pose counted), but I was afraid that was too simple and almost close to cheating. I’d be reporting a lot of corpse poses right before I crashed for the night. HA!

With this in mind, I’ve decided to stick with a single simple sequence with a little from each element, starting Earth, ending Water:

Mountain Tre...

A Matter of Ducks

In a lot of ways, ducks are like cats. They’re hard to herd because they tend to go where they want to go.  Every so often one has to sit down and gather up his or her ducks and put them in a row, or a huddle, in preparation for synchronized duck swimming (i.e. getting one’s shit together).

For me this happens two to three times a year. It’s that time again to regroup and reconfigure. Those of you who have been reading my blog for some time know that I sit down and revise my goal lists and,...

Uncle! Time to Start Over! #DoMagick

If at first you don’t succeed, try-try again, right?  I am going to own my failure and admit that I completely bombed this DoMagick challenge. I went to my friend, Andrieh, and told him I bombed it. I haven’t done a single bit of Yoga since last Thursday. That means for the past 5 days I’ve been completely preoccupied with other things and skipped out on (slacked) my challenge. It probably didn’t help that I wasn’t “feeling” the challenge to begin with this time around. My enthusiasm waned an...

Day 7: Don’t Say Fuck (Again) #DoMagick

Today’s morning yoga (I did a video, Rodney Yee’s Yoga for Energy & Stress Relief) brought about a profound realization about the schedule. As many of you know my schedule kind of spun out of control this summer and I’ve been overwhelmed by it. But I’m slowly regaining control with the help of Colleen Story’s Overwhelmed Writer Rescue. Today’s realization is that I DO have time for everything going on, if I don’t hand over my time to BEING overwhelmed.

Analysis Paralysis and procrastination d...

Day 6: FTW #DoMagick

Is that For The Win, or Fuck The World? You decide.

Today was round two of the chaos. Amid handing out the payroll that I did yesterday, I also finished up the billing, did my A/R reports, helped customers, did the deposits, and stayed until almost seven thirty to make a dent in six days worth of data entry. It was the least I could do for my co-workers considering I won’t be back into the office until Monday. Yes – tomorrow is a writing day (formatting and editing if there’s time) and then F...

Day 5: Sun Salutations #DoMagick

I did nine sun salutations yesterday and then went to bed. Long story short – it was payroll and end of month at the day job. When you work in accounting, that basically means chaos. So you’re trying to do payroll while simultaneously help customers with invoices, and answer questions about the outgoing billing. It didn’t help that Monday was a holiday.

That said, the yoga helped me relax and eventually sleep.  No profound insights or anything. Just some needed movement and relaxation.

Day 4: Water = Counseling #DoMagick

After an upset in my schedule yesterday (and some needed time away from the computer), I am finishing up my work from yesterday, today. So far I’ve managed to do my water meditation and yoga, which seemed to open wide my intuition and empathy, and made me receptive to the rest of today’s work. I’ve also managed to answer a lot of emails (my inbox was a nightmare), and reconfigure the Sorath model for productivity. Now I’m trying to get through readings (there were a lot of them) and, of cours...
