Story in Daily Science Fiction

I had a story published today in Daily Science Fiction, my sixth story to appear there. Before I give the story link, I shall echo the editor's warning: Mature Themes, Disturbing Story. (It's not very explicit, but it deals with things that are troubling.) And now that you've been warned, here is the link: Charmed.

Essay at imaginED

I'm honored that my essay At the Intersection of Science and Poetry has appeared online at imaginED. The essay describes how I came to write Elemental Haiku ... and it also contains a photo of one of my cats.

2 poems in Asimov's

In doubly-happy news, I have two poems in the Nov/Dec 2019 issue of Asimov's Science Fiction, titled "How to Curve Spacetime" and "Not For Sale."

One of them -- no prizes for guessing which -- is part of my work-in-progress, an astronomy sequence.

Elemental Haiku

Tomorrow, October 1st, my book Elemental Haiku will be published by Ten Speed Press. I am nervously excited. I won't comment on my own work, but the physical form of the book is lovely. Lisa Bieser's book design and Iris Gottlieb's illustrations are a beautiful accompaniment to the haiku.

The Sciku Project very kindly reviewed the book, and also interviewed me about the haiku, and the first part of their interview appeared today.

poem in F&SF

I am honored to have a poem in the 70th anniversary issue of Fantasy & Science Fiction, which will be on sale from September 1st. The poem is titled "Last Human in the Olympics," and is one of my newer poems, written earlier this year.

N.B. F&SF is a wonderful magazine, and I officially encourage anyone who likes short stories to subscribe.

Daily Science Fiction #5

My short story Let's Pretend appeared today in Daily Science Fiction, my fifth story to be published there. I wrote the first draft of the story seventeen years ago (!!), tried submitting it without success, then retired it, then unearthed it last year and revised it, after which it found a home.

I have a poem -- "To Skeptics" -- in the July/August issue of F&SF. The issue isn't on sale for a couple of weeks, but I have already received a copy. The poem is a short one that deals with dragons and with cats.

Dwarf Stars nomination

My poem How to Betray Sagittarius A*, first published in Strange Horizons, has been nominated for the Dwarf Stars award, given annually for speculative poems of 10 lines or fewer :-)

This will be the first time that I've had a poem included in the Dwarf Stars anthology, so I am very happy :-)
