Polu Texni

"Respect," a poem of which I am rather fond, appeared online today in Polu Texni. It's a poem about the cost of war, written from the perspective of an old man called Cheong, and is part of The Sign of the Dragon.

The poem may be read online here.

Rhysling nomination

I'm very happy to report that my poem First Lesson has been nominated for the 2017 Rhysling Award :-)

"First Lesson" first appeared in Silver Blade, and is one of a handful of poems in The Sign of the Dragon that is written in script/play format.

Poem in F&SF

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away, I had several short stories published in F&SF.... Today, I received contributor copies of the Jan/Feb 2017 issue of F&SF containing "Kingship," my first poem to appear there.

"Kingship" is a poem about King Xau, and, though it is short and peripheral to the main storyline, I am very fond of it.

Poem in Songs of Eretz Poetry Review

My poem Judgment has appeared in Songs of Eretz Poetry Review.

"Judgment" is a poem from near the end of the King Xau epic, and I am fond of it, even though it is not pivotal to the plot.

poem in Mirror Dance

My poem Recruits is in the Winter 2016 issue of Mirror Dance, my fourth King Xau poem to appear there.

I've been writing non-Xau poems and short-shorts recently. Yesterday I got quite caught up writing a 900-word short-short, but I miss writing about Xau. Sometime in 2017, I think I will write a short story about him, not as part of The Sign of the Dragon, but as a stand-alone.

Two interviews

I hadn't been interviewed in years, but then I received three interview requests in the past two weeks! Two of the interviews are now online: Terrie Leigh Relf interview, and Poetry Nook interview.

The third interview was by McKenzie Johnston Winberry of Apex Magazine, and I think it will appear on the Apex blog soon.

World Fantasy Convention

If you will be at World Fantasy Convention next week (10/27/2016-10/30/2016), please come and say hello. I'll be on two panels: "A Golden Age of Contemporary Asian Fantasy" and "How Does Who We Are Affect What We Read?" In addition, I will probably participate in Thursday night's poetry open mic.

In other news, my poem Arrow is online at Songs of Eretz Poetry Review. It's a poem about King Xau set 12 years into his reign.

At the Sign of the Dragon

My poem "At the Sign of the Dragon" is online in Uppagus. The poem is about the lovely bookshop that I frequented when I was growing up, the bookshop after which I named my epic, The Sign of the Dragon.

The poem may be read at: https://uppagus.com/poems/soon-lee-dr...

poem about a friend

My poem Rachel has been published online by Songs of Eretz Poetry Review.

It is not a poem about dragons, or King Xau, but rather about one of my childhood friends.
