Rest in peace, Elizabeth Taylor. You spent so much of your life in service, using your celebrity for good—bringing awareness to causes that needed attention, causes that others were afraid of. You will be missed.

Tonight the moon will be the brightest it's been in 18 years. If only we could say the same for humanity.

Someone who really gets St. Patrick's Day...

But after a brief reprieve he's up and off to the next bar…

A true Irish exit.

For Jen

My friend Jen has asked that I post something—anything—that will not make me cry like those dogs in Japan.

She emailed me earlier demanding that I stop watching it (even thought I hadn't even told her how many times I'd viewed it).

(A lot.)

(She knows me).

So for Jen I decided to post something happy.

But I couldn't think of anything that was terribly happy-making at present.

So I googled "happy" for a little help.

You get your standard happy faces, birthday cakes, balloons…

But you also get this:

A very happy condom (which was apparently found in a 7 year old's McDonalds happy meal.

So there is something happy. (The condom, not the 7 year old and certainly not her family.)

Better Jen?

For the record this happy cow came in a close second:

Yes, I realize the cow is disturbing. Sorry about that.

Here's a video of two dogs alone amidst tsunami debris. One is injured and the other — although I don't like anthropomorphizing animals — seems to be keeping watch/standing guard.

Heart. Broken.
