SNAKE AND MONGOO$E OPENS IN THEATERS SEPTEMBER 6

SNAKE AND MONGOO$E OPENS IN THEATERS SEPTEMBER 6 In a Wild Trip Down Memory Lane, Movie Traces Drag Racing’s Most Colorful Rivalry BetweenDon “The Snake” Prudhomme and Tom “The Mongoose” McEwen Los Angeles, CA - Entertainment Universe, in association with Rhino Films and the National Hot Rod Association, announces the theatrical release of Snake and Mongoo$e, the much anticipated film capturing one of the greatest rivalries in auto racing history.
Snake and Mongoo$ewill open nationally theaters on the heels of the National Hot Rod Association’s US Nationals in Indianapolis, where special events will be held surrounding the film and the cars featured. The film will debut in cities coinciding with the areas where the NHRA holds its national events and heritage/nostalgia races.
Opening cities include (but are not limited to)September 6: Pomona, CA; Charlotte, NC; Dallas, TX; Gainesville, FL; Bakersfield, CA and Bowling Green, KYSeptember 13: Las Vegas, NV; Englishtown, NJ; Seattle, WA; Chicago, IL; New York NYSeptember 20: Topeka, KS; Reading PA; Houston TX; Bristol TN; St Louis MOSeptember 27: Epping, NH; Denver, CO; Norwalk, OH; Atlanta GA; Sonoma CA and Phoenix, AZ
The film tells the story of the groundbreaking accomplishments of drivers Don “The Snake” Prudhomme and Tom “The Mongoose” McEwen in the world of drag racing. While being fierce competitors on the track, the pair were close friends who managed to revolutionize entertainment sports marketing when they attracted Mattel’s Hot Wheels Division as a sponsor.
Jesse Williams (Grey’s Anatomy) as “the Snake” and Richard Blake (Dragonball:Evolution) as “the Mongoose” were honored to study their namesakes for weeks in order to bring them to life on the big screen. The film also features Noah Wyle, Tim Blake Nelson, Ian Ziering, Fred Dryer, John Heard, Ashley Hinshaw, Leonardo Nam, Kim Shaw and Julie Mond.
The film highlights the formative, dangerous glory years of drag racing during the 1960s and 70s. Prudhomme, a seven-time NHRA U.S. Nationals winner and four-time NHRA World Champion, and McEwen, an NHRA U.S. Nationals winner who’s also held many prestigious titles in other national events, raced each other at speeds in excess of 200 mph for over 30 years.
“These guys regularly threw caution to the wind as they strapped themselves into untested racecars powered by volatile, explosive 2,000 horsepower engines – and they did it week after week. It took a huge amount of guts to do that,” explains Writer and Executive Producer Alan Paradise. Their efforts lead to an extraordinarily lucrative sponsorship by Mattel’s “Hot Wheels” brand – a partnership that resulted in bringing the sport of drag racing to the mainstream, and revolutionized branding in the business of sports.
“It was a complicated film to produce, not only because we had to source and integrate archival race footage, but also because we wanted original, museum quality funny cars and dragsters from private collections to appear in the film,” continues Robin Broidy, Chair of Entertainment Universe and the film’s producer.
Vehicles included in the film are the original Greer-Black-Prudomme dragster from car collector Bruce Meyer, the English Leather Corvette owned by Don Trasin, and the phenomenal collection of dragsters, funny cars and iconic haulers owned by Don Prodhomme himself – who oversaw their restoration to their original glory.
Snake and Mongoo$e opens nationwide September 6, and is rated PG-13. The film is distributed nationally through Rocky Mountain Pictures

PURE BATHING CULTURE'S MOON TIDES STREAMING NOW AT PITCHFORK
Listen: Moon Tides in full via Pitchfork
Read: Stereogum's "Band To Watch" feature HERE
Listen: "Dream The Dare" or "Pendulum" via Soundcloud
"There's nothing reckless about the glassy acoustic guitars, immersive reverb, and Versprille's incandescent vocals, which strikes an emotional chord during a time of year when anticipating the summer in fairly lazy ways can feel rebellious" -Pitchfork
"Sarah Versprille's warmly glowing voice and disarming way with words never fail to tug at our heartstrings." -Gorilla Vs Bear
"The summer's prettiest album" - The FADER
"An album of sumptuous indie pop...thick and gleaming." -Stereogum
"Unfathomably lovely layered harmonies and tear-inducing minor-key guitar strokes" - MTV Buzzworthy
It's a rare and beautiful thing when a band emerges fully formed, but it makes perfect sense in the case of guitarist Daniel Hindman and keyboardist Sarah Versprille's Pure Bathing Culture, who today premiere their full-length debut via Pitchfork . The gorgeous record filled with reverb-drenched, soulful, danceable electro-pop musically and lyrically taps into an introspective worship of the natural and psychic mysteries that surround us. Partisan Records will release Moon Tides on August 20th and the band will share songs from the forthcoming album on tour with Widowspeak this fall. The full list of tour dates is below.
Having backed folk rock revisionist Andy Cabic in Vetiver, the New Yorkers partnered up and moved West in 2011, settling in Portland, Oregon (Versprille also sings on Foxygen's latest LP and Hindman adds his sprawling guitar work to Damien Jurado's excellent Marqopa). Building off their past experiences as musical collaborators, in a short time the duo have created a sound that is undeniably their own: soaring synths, chiming keyboards, and shimmering electric guitars move in lockstep with bouncing drum machines. Sarah's crystalline voice floats on top of it all with divine purpose. It's a sound that looks back momentarily for inspiration -- Talk Talk, Prefab Sprout, Cocteau Twins -- but then fixes its gaze firmly on the present.

For me, Crocodiles represent everything I love about life-affirming Rock'n'Roll: they bring light out of darkness; they match reckless noise with the most beautiful melodies; they catch you off guard whilst sounding like the most perfect kind of right for the right here, right now. They remind me of all the things I've loved but they also make me hungry for what I've not yet tasted. The claustrophobia and pain of the recent past is dealt with bravely and the road ahead is wide and open. It is all my favorite records playing at once; the trick to it being the truth; the truth being that great, life-affirming music must be bittersweet; anger is an energy that can be churned to positive. We who face the demons of derailment out to destroy dreams must harness the hate and turn it back on itself -- it is from this that great art is begat. And so these songs rage and chime at once, in organized chaos, like life. Charles and Brandon have been making music together since they were 18. They met in the dirty glow of San Diego sun and now split their lives between New York City and London. Their music has grown up over the last decade just as they have. New blood in the form of producer Sune Rose Wagner of Raveonettes fame oversaw this recent endeavor and it was a quick, natural Los Angeles creation. Duncan Mills mixed for the third time, to maintain their catalogue lifeline. Crimes Of Passionkicks off with "I Like It In The Dark," which could be their best to date; a joyous hymn to atheism and closes with the aching beauty of "Un Chant D'Amour," a simple and direct ode to heartbreak. These songs bookmark an album bursting with sounds inspired by the likes of the Soft Boys, Street Hassle era Lou Reed, the Notorious Byrd Brothers, the Jackson 5 and even Glenn Branca. This is certainly the most fully realised Crocodiles album to date. It is a sadly accepted impression that life is cooler in song, on screen, in art, or in poetry, but it is far superior when the creative process is fed back into real life and an album like Crimes Of Passion is born. Northampton, MA-based quartet Potty Mouth aka Abby Weems (guitar, vocals), Ally Einbinder (bass), Phoebe Harris (lead guitar) and Victoria Mandanas (drums) have released a new video for 'The Spins.' Watch the video at NYLON's Band Crush. 'The Spins' was one of NPR's Heavy Rotation '10 Songs We Can't Stop Playing,' which, along with first single 'Damage,' deemed the group a Stereogum 'Band To Watch,' The Guardian 'New Band of the Day,' SPIN 'Best New Artist' for July, and more. Both tracks are taken from their forthcoming debut full-length, Hell Bent , out September 17th on Old Flame/Marshall Teller (UK), as well as new single 'Black and Studs.'
Potty Mouth are all-parts smart-pop craftswomen, specializing in taut, infectious, C-86 influenced indie pop meets '77 punk perfection. The band released their debut 12" vinyl EP, entitled Sun Damage in July 2012, which garnered the attention of Pitchfork , who called the six-song EP an "an impressive, no-filler debut," as well as The Boston Globe , who named Potty Mouth one of the "top five indie-rock bands to watch in 2013," with BrooklynVegan adding that they were, "one of the most promising new bands in their local scene." Departing from the more angular shades of post-punk heard in their EP, Hell Bent is marked by its significantly heavier production and melancholic hooks. Nonetheless, the album stays true to the confident, youthful punk aesthetic the band has cultivated for themselves.
Potty Mouth have shared the stage with Andrew W.K., The Pains of Being Pure At Heart, Waxahatchee, and more, and recently performed at the New Museum in NYC in conjunction with their exhibit "NYC 1993: Experimental Jet Set, Trash and No Star." After a Northeast tour including LADYFEST in Philly, the band will return to NYC for a show with A Place To Bury Strangers before joining Bleached on a short tour. More dates to be announced soon.

STREAM TY SEGALL'S SLEEPER, OUT NEXT WEEK ON DRAG CITY, NOW VIA NPR MUSIC'S "FIRST LISTEN" SERIES
TODAY, MONDAY, AUGUST 12TH AT 1PM ET, NPR MUSIC HOSTS SLEEPER LISTENING PARTY AND LIVE Q & A WITH TY!
Since announcing the release of
Sleeper
, all's been pretty quiet on the western (Ty Segall) front, relatively speaking, of course. We are talking Ty here! Without sharing any pre-release tracks or official videos (wha?!), we've been keeping the lid on nice and tight leading up to Sleeper's imminent release. Until now, that is! It's time to flip that lid, reward your sweet (doctored) patience and let everyone experience the latest. Over the past five years, Ty has managed to evolve his love of riffs 'n' rhythm into an astonishing number of directions, and Sleeper, the follow up to last year's
Twins
, continues in that realm. Recorded and mixed in Ty's San Francisco apartment right before bugging out for Los Angeles, Sleeper, embodies its own space, reaching you in a form you haven't quite heard before from Ty.
Beginning this morning, Sleeper has been streaming in its entirety via NPR Music's "First Listen" series. As if that weren't enough, a few hours from now, NPR Music will also host a Sleeper "Listening Party." Hosts Bob Boilen and Robin Hilton will begin playing the album at 1pm ET and then Ty will join them just after 1:30pm ET for a live Q & A where he'll be asked fans' questions, plus some of their own. It's not often we get Ty out of the studio or off the road for something of this nature, so be sure to tune in and hear what Ty has to say about this new record. Blouse New Single "A Feeling Like This" On Nylon

Where first single "No Shelter" drives forward with propulsive energy, "A Feeling Like This" takes the foot off the gas and let's the breeze in. A rhythmic, pop-infused drum beat carries the momentum while hazy guitars and Hilton's dreamy vocals create an atmosphere of casual sensuality.
"It's impossible to play this track and not feel something" says NYLON, who premiered the track. So go ahead and listen to "A Felling Like This" and decide for yourself what that feeling is.
The trio also have a fall tour planned, so stay tuned for news soon!

Sonically speaking, that comes through on the LP immediately. Perhaps bolstered by the ongoing construction occurring next to the studio while the record was being made, the sense of force and urgency propelling the record is evident. Patrick Adams' driving bass and plodding drums in the title track usher in this new guitar-friendlier Blouse; more direct and clearer of vision, but still mysterious and beautiful.
Jacob and Patrick's Pacific Northwest alt-rock roots (filtered through post-punk and V/U) are a great counterpoint to ex-pat Southern CA transplant Charlie Hilton's Cohen/Patti/Nico singer/songwriter nature. The dichotomy of those two forces on tracks like "No Shelter" and "1000 Years" are at the core of Imperium. These are delicate songs from the perspective of a valley girl who grew up with gurus and ashrams played by indie lifers on a steady diet of NEU! It makes it all the more understandable to have showers of acoustic guitars and (real, not synthesized) cellos interrupted by fuzz guitar.
But these interruptions aren't a bad thing, they're what makes Imperium the great record it is. "In a Feeling Like This" describes it perfectly; it's a strange place that you're weirdly familiar with. Warm but also kind of spooky and imposing, you want to stay there for longer than you're invited. Thankfully, it's ok to flip it over and listen to it again.
Imperium is out Septmeber 17th, 2013

HAWKS TOUR W/ BUILDINGS KICKS OFF IN LA
HAWKS TOUR WITH BUILDINGS KICKS OFF TOMORROW IN LA WITH TWO SHOWS!
ALBUM OUT NOW THROUGH LEARNING CURVE RECORDS
Hawks have been practicing the art of carelessness and reckless abandon, taking what they have learned and shoving it into your face. Their efforts in mangled detached noise have come to a full head on Push Over, the band’s debut release on Learning Curve Records. The Atlanta quartet has been mashing out menacing boot stomps since 2007, building a rich and devoted following by continuing to release challenging material and putting on twisted and downright menacing live performances.
Dark raconteur, weaving tales of masochistic need, failed hopes, and frustrations into each epic fable. The twisted nature of Hawks hymns will have you rethinking the line of what makes good and evil. Blurring it with a haze of sonic obliteration, guitars that sound like rusted wires stretched over the frets, rhythms that pull you into a trance moving like a fire moves thru a burning building. All topped with primal narrative blending into bedlam and entropy. Bellicose and indomitable is what the Hawks portray on Push Over. It is the soundtrack of a ominous sinister sideshow of life. Listen to 'White Crosses' here Watch 'Borne Of Wasps/Shitfist' here
Next month, they hit the West Coast for select dates with Minneapolis faves, Buildings. Dates are as follows.
Aug 13th - Origami Vinyl (6pm) and The Smell (9.30pm) - Los Angeles, CA
Aug 14th - Hemlock Tavern - San Francisco, CA
Aug 15th - Club 21 - Portland, OR
