Active Child releases LIAR remix of Subtle Ft. Mikky Ekko

ACTIVE CHILD RELEASES LIAR REMIX OF "SUBTLE
FT. MIKKY EKKO" VIA

STREAM: Active Child: "Subtle Ft. Mikky Ekko (LIAR Remix)"
Active Child is excited to announce the first remix off his recent EP, Rapor. The Romanian producer LIAR has remixed standout track "Subtle (Ft. Mikky Ekko)." He has remixed everyone from Foals to SOHN and The XX and just put out a new record on Symbols Recordings called Spirewards. Active Child just released a series of videos about the making of the EP, which you can watch . He is currently in the studio working on an LP due out this Spring.    -------------------------------------------
Pat Grossi, better known as Active Child, is proud to announce Rapor EP, his first release since the critically acclaimed full length debut, You Are All I See.  Set for release on October 22nd via Vagrant Records, the six-song EP is a culmination of Grossi's heartfelt journey around the world in support of You Are All I See and an introspective year spent writing at his home studio, Rapor, from which he derived the title and inspiration for his forthcoming release. The EP is now available to stream on Active Child's new Pro Partner profile on SoundCloud "The house is made up almost entirely of glass, designed by the architects Buff and Hensman as their personal refuge from the chaos of LA.  Inside the studio you can feel the sun pouring through the skylights and the mountains wrapping around on all sides. They named it Rapor, Ra meaning sun and Por meaning house.  Sometimes i would spend weeks alone at home writing without leaving or having visitors. It was during those periods that i realized how important that space was to me creatively. I relied on that solitude."
Emerging from Rapor with an inspired and incredibly personal collection of songs, Grossi moved to Heavy Duty Studios in Burbank, CA over the summer of 2013 to work with producers Kevin Seaton (Major Lazer, Snoop Lion) & Nick Ruth (Mikky Ekko, Night Terrors of 1979) to complete his vision, which includes vocal features from contemporaries and friends Mikky Ekko and Ellie Goulding.
Ekko appears on "Subtle" the EP's first single, which premiered yesterday and is described by Pitchfork as "leaning hard on aggressive 1980s synth-pop textures, with vocalist  on hand to deliver some full-throated forcefulness contrasting with Grossi's always-floating falsetto." Gouldingwho covered Grossi's stand out "Hanging On" on her current release Halcyon is featured on the EP's fourth track "Silhouette" which showcases the two artists soaring falsettos in duet.
Grossi will tour this fall with support from JMSN and then return home to put the finishing touches on his follow up album, due out mid 2014.

All The Labor: The Story Of The Gourds coming soon to DVD

All The Labor: The Story Of The GourdsAvailable on November 19th  One of SXSW Film Report's 5 "Must-See Rock Movies"  An in-depth look at the band, with archival footage and behind-the-scenes goofiness as well as exploring the camaraderie that allows them to remain one of our town's longest-running and most-beloved acts. - Austin Film Chronicles
ALL THE LABOR  is a documentary by Montana filmmaker Doug Hawes-Davis that takes aim at the elusive, ever-moving target that is The Gourds. Comprised of candid conversations, blazing performances, on-tour media interviews and insight from friends and family, the film captures the unbreakable backbeat and creative spark of "the national band of Austin" (New York Times).
Filmed over the course of eight months and featuring archival footage shot nearly two decades previously,  ALL THE LABOR is itself the product of an unconventional yet uniquely fitting collaboration.
Hawes-Davis, a veteran documentary filmmaker with 30 titles to his credit, has made a career of explaining the virtually unexplainable in his films. He mapped out a thicket of environmental degradation, corporate secrecy and human health problems spanning generations in LIBBY, MONTANA.  He examined two centuries of cultural warfare played out through the plight of American bison in FACING THE STORM: STORY OF THE AMERICAN BISON.
Little of that prepared him for the challenge of chasing five middle-aged men around the country in a beat-up tour van, trying to capture the mystique of their musical collaboration.
"As a filmmaker, I am most attracted to subjects that aren't easy to put in a box; the same is true for my musical tastes," said Hawes-Davis, an avid music fan with a record collection that numbers in the thousands. "The passion that people all over the country have for The Gourds serves as evidence that they've tapped into something really powerful and unique. The fact that it is hard to describe doesn't mean it can't be understood. So that is what I set out to do - gain an understanding of what this band is all about and share that with film and music fans."

In the late summer of 2011, Drowners frontman Matthew Hitt found himself in New York City. He’s from a small town in rural Wales but New York is where Hitt feels most at home. “I just like the way things look here. I like the way things are done here. I like how late everything happens,” he says. New York’s signature up-all-night energy courses through Drowners’ self-titled debut, but there’s a sweet melancholy to the album as well.In his down time, Hitt began writing songs that reflected this renewed interest in angular, compressed rock and roll. “The early songs came out really short – I thought, well, I’ve already sung the chorus twice I don’t need to do it again, that’s what makes it a chorus! I think that being in New York influenced what I was trying to do with economy in song structure and instrumentation. It’s like, here’s what I’m trying to say. Okay, I said it. Now it’s over. Onto the next one.”  Gallivanting around downtown, Hitt also met likeminded souls, including future bandmates, Jack Ridley III (guitar, vocals,) Erik Lee Snyder (bass,) and Lakis E. Pavlou (drums). It would take the better part of the next six months to secure the right record deal, but during that time the band gigged like crazy, ratcheting up their live prowess. They also released a well-received EP, Between Us Girls. By the time Drowners were in a recording studio to record their full-length debut, with producers Gus Oberg and Johnny T., they were ready. The first single off Drowners’ eponymous debut, “Luv, Hold Me Down,” is a propulsive slice of perfect garage pop. “It brings across this sort of jovial misery,” says Hitt, “It’s kind of pop, like a lot of the rest of the record, but lyrically, it’s not as shiny as seems.”The other side of coin, according to Hitt, comes courtesy of the melodic and melancholy track “A Button on Your Blouse” which changes up the pace of Drowners’ self-professed brand of romantic aggression. “I always think of this one as our ballad even though it’s not even that slow,” says Hitt with a laugh.  But it’s the cheeky grime of “Long Hair” that really showcases the easy, dirty thrill of Drowners. While Hitt is responsible for the elegantly understated lyrics throughout the album – the kind that adhere to his Salinger-esque economy of words – he professes that everything changed as soon as recording began. When Hitt, Ridley, Snyder, and Pavlou began to play, Hitt’s initial blueprint and the band’s extensive punk music background melded, giving the album its true form. The group wanted to present something slightly different, says Hitt. “Our live shows are a lot more aggressive,” he adds, “With the album, we wanted to create like a sort of layered, fleshed out live show.”The result is an album that’s equal parts playfulness and disquietude, toeing the line between music that sweeps the listener up, and lyrics that beg for their deep sensitivity and understanding. “Whether you think something is good or not is if you respond to it,” says Hitt. “I wanted to illicit a response, but I want them to get whatever they want from it.”

M83-You And The Night-New Soundtrack

You And The Night (Original Soundtrack) Released November 19th, 2013  (Digital Only)
Film Directed by Yann Gonzalez Watch Trailer HERE
LISTEN TO "Ali & Matthias" HERE

M83  is excited to announce their latest collaboration: the soundtrack to Yann Gonzalez’s first feature film,  You And The Night . Mute will be releasing  You And The Night via digital download on November 19th, 2013. Anthony warns that You And The Night is not a typical M83 release. “People who only like “Midnight City” are going to be disappointed. Mellow and romantic, this soundtrack pays tribute to French soundtracks from the 70's and is much more intimate than Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming and the Oblivion Soundtrack. This score is really for lovers and ghosts.”
Growing up together in Antibes, France, Anthony and his brother Yann were both inspired from an early age by European filmmakers such as Luis Bunuel, Alejandro Jodorowsky and Pier Paolo Pasolini. Similar themes underline each of their individual artistic expressions, via both film and music: an appreciation for the majesty of hope and an overall embrace of humanity. Describing his career up until now, Yann explains “if all of my films are put together they form a kind of ensemble, a sort of community. And that is precisely what You And The Night is about: an emotional community, the utopia of a community.” For the Gonzalez brothers community and family allowed them to grow into their roles as filmmakers and musicians, so when the time came to chose someone to create a soundtrack for his first feature film it was obvious that Yann would look to work with his brother. “Music is an organic part of the films I make.” “M83’s compositions bring together the most diverse kinds of music that can only communicate in the end through the logic of emotion and the faith you place in them.”
For Anthony You And The Night is a film about love, loss, new love and melancholia. He comments “The movie is very emotional and it’s the movie of my brother, so it was a very important project for me. Yet as we share the same values, have the same artistic influences, it was also a very natural and uncomplicated process.”
In creating this sultry and luminous soundtrack Anthony reunited with several of his previous collaborators.  Joe Trapanese  ( Oblivion, Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming ) returned to assist with the orchestral arrangements, whilst long-term M83 collaborator  Morgan Kibby (M83, White Sea) and  Susanne Sundfør  ( Oblivion ) performed vocals on several tracks on the album. Evolving from their time working together on Oblivion’s title track, it seemed a natural step for Sundfør to become involved in the recording sessions for You And The Night. Susanne comments “It was very inspiring to see how Anthony works and how his perfectionism and high ambitions brought out the best in everyone around him. It's something I'm grateful to have been a part of, and I think the soundtrack ended up sounding beautiful and mystical, just like the movie."
Once again You And The Night highlights the musical richness of M83 and adds an impressive chapter to the growing repertoire of work that Gonzalez has produced since his initial, self-titled release. M83, in 2001, right through to the 2011 Grammy Nominated release Nominated Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming, which included the platinum selling hit-single “Midnight City”.

Though of course, as Anthony warns, don’t expect to hear anything like that on this record!
“This score is really for lovers and ghosts.” -Anthony Gonzalez
