Nasimiyu Murumba plays Pete's Candy Store on 12.9

Nasimiyu Murumba returns with her upcoming dirt. EP that's out on January 24th, 2014!

Download and share the lead single, "Raise Your Arrow (The Hunt)," that premiered recently at SPIN and catch her and her band live at Pete's Candy Store in Brooklyn on December 9th!Dream-pop artist Nasimiyu brings her composer/producer/multi-instrumentalist zing to her forthcoming release, “dirt. [EP]” The genre falls somewhere on the earthier, brassy-er side of the indie pop spectrum. Think Talking Heads plus Etta James — on a safari, telling ghost stories.
Other influences include Sun Ra, Fiona Apple, Dirty Projectors, TV on the Radio, Bjork, and Fela Kuti.
Nasimiyu came from in a half-Kenyan, half-Scandinavian household in Minneapolis, then rounded out her sound by studying under street performers, voodoo practitioners, and marching band musicians for 4 years in New Orleans. She now moves and shakes in eclectic artist circles in Brooklyn.
Although she played most of the instruments on the new album herself, Nasimiyu fronts and plays keyboard with a live backing band of NYC musicians she describes as her “top picks” —  drummer Kevin Raczka of Valerie June / Antibalas, trumpeter Andrew McGovern of Machetes,  tuba player Mark Nagy of Escarioka, and saxophonist Eden Bareket of The Side Project. You can catch them live on December 9th at Pete’s Candy Store in Brooklyn and January 3rd at Nublu in Manhattan.
Nasimiyu worked on “dirt. [EP]” across several timezones with co-producers Andreas Gustafsson in Sweden and Ben Lorio in New Orleans. It features guest players Kalmia Traver of Rubblebucket, Mike Bass of Trombone Shorty, and the New Orleans bass crew, Naughty Professor.
Nasimiyu received glowing reviews from Afro-Punk and Liberator Magazine for her last solo album, and also landed a video on MTV for her one-off collaboration with EDM producer, Paper Diamond.Upcoming performances:
12.09.13 – Brooklyn, NY @ Pete’s Candy Store
01.03.14 – Manhattan, NY @ Nublu

Gossling Debuts New Track via Rolling Stone

Gossling Debuts New Track “That Feeling” via Rolling Stone

Listen + Share “That Feeling”

“A strikingly mature take that still manages to be both dramatic and danceable.” – New York Magazine

“Her voice, equal parts squeak and sorrow, makes us think of Kate Nash doing an impression of Joanna Newsom, or vice versa.” – The Guardian

Australia’s Gossling has a heartfelt, diverse, and seriously enchanting talent that emanates from the dreamy, startling voice of singer/songwriter Helen Croome. Already making waves in the US with her songs being played on popular television shows including American Horror StoryGossip GirlNashville and Graceland, Gossling’s upcoming LP Harvest Of Gold marks the arrival of undoubtedly what will be one of 2014’s best releases.

In anticipation of that release, Rolling Stone has debuted her latest track, “That Feeling”. But what exactly is this feeling she describes? "It's a feeling or euphoric state that's unattainable and impossible to regenerate no matter how hard you try," Croome told Rolling Stone. You can listen and download the song HERE.

With sonic inspiration found in records by artists such as Goldfrapp and Metronomy,Harvest Of Gold was recorded in May 2013 at The Shed Studios in Canterbury, VIC, with producer John Castle (The Bamboos, Vance Joy, Washington). Helen – who switched her psychology/sociology studies at university to a Bachelor of Music (Composition) – wanted to capture her brand new songs in their full Technicolor. “I love cinematic stuff,” she says. “My heart is in that style. I didn’t want to lose that.”

North American & European
Tour Dates Extended into 2014
Watch video:
http://www.stereogum.com/1565981/obits-operation-bikini-video-stereogum-premiere/video/
Brooklyn’s Obits have extended their North American and European tour into 2014 in support their acclaimed 3rd album, Bed & Bugs, out now worldwide on Sub Pop. The band’s North American west coast dates begin Thursday, November 14th in Vancouver, BC at The Biltmore Cabaret and end Saturday, November 23rd in Las Vegas, NV at The Beauty Bar. In early 2014 the band will visit Europe for a two week tour, which begins on January 15th in London, UK at Birthdays and ends on February 1st in Athens, GR at Six d.o.g.s. Please find a complete list of tour dates below. Not at all coincidentally, with the start of these tour dates we are releasing a new and very good music video for the song "Operation Bikini” from Bed & Bugs. Featuring illustrations by Perry Shall (http://perryshall.tumblr.com/), this new video was directed by the enigmatic auteur Woody Tobias, Jr. and premiered today at Stereogum, who had the following interesting and flattering thing(s) to say:  "Today we premiere Woody Tobias, Jr.’s video for “Operation Bikini,” which involves aliens traveling through space to find an earth wrecked by violence and extinction. Illustrations by Perry Shall are transposed against grim photography to powerful effect. Watch the weird, wild clip now(see video premiere November 14th)."For more information on Obits please visit www.subpop.com/artists/obits.What People Are Saying About Obits (to their faces):
“Obits have seriously sharpened their craft...Bed & Bugs tightens the screws on these jams, especially in the pan-fried “Operation Bikini,” one of the album’s many speckled headbangers. With Motown-greased guitar licks and blues twangs, it’s nearly impossible to not bust a move listening to Bed & Bugs.” [Review, 80%] -  FILTER “This is a band in complete control of its vision, and the result is a sharp, confident album.” [Review] - Alternative Press “Mainman Rick Froberg might be midway through his fifth decade, but he and his cohorts can still make one hell of a racket. Whether the abrasive grunge of ‘Taste the Diff’ or the quasi-surf rock of ‘Spun Out,’ the White Stripes-esque blues’n’roll of ‘Malpractice’ or the gentle hippy-folk of ‘Machines,’ this is a crazed, unpredictable crash course in making a record and not giving a shit.” [Review] -  NME “A teeth gnashing, blissful good time.” -  Village Voice   “‘This Must Be Done’ sounds like a more pop-friendly version of the 13th Floor Elevators, ‘Pet Trust’ and ‘Receptor’ quell the noise with some soulful melody, and ‘Machines’ is a meditative cut of trippy psychedelia. Lest purists start gripping their chests, there’s also an ample amount of Obits’ time-tested chord shredding to be found. Cuts like ‘Taste The Diff,’ ‘It’s Sick,’ and ‘I’m Closing In’ are straight-up rippers that can’t be ignored" [Review, B+] -  AV Club “With 13 tracks that dip in and out of snaky, Seeds-like garage stomp, surf tones, and even some drifty moments of neo-psychedelia, the band is covering all the bases, and tying together what could be disparate styles with their whole-heartedly emphatic approach to every performance.” [Review, 4 / 5] -   All Music “It's another stellar fist-pumper.” [Track Review, “Taste the Diff”] -  Exclaim!
