Ane Brun- February US Tour

ANE BRUN’S
NEW MUSIC VIDEO FOR “DARING TO LOVE” FROM FILM
A THOUSAND TIMES GOODNIGHT
Video HERE SINGER WILL EMBARK ON NORTH AMERICAN TOUR IN FEBRUARY RARITIES  OUT NOW ON BALLOON RANGER RECORDS “Norwegian-born pop singer-songwriter Ane Brun makes music that fits well into the cinematic world. Her songs are brimming with life and energy while still touching on feelings of loss and self-doubt.”—NPR“Norwegian-born pop songstress Ane Brun has been known
for her ability to rework other people’s songs”—PasteAne Brun’s new music video for “Daring to Love” recenlty premieried on Noisey at http://bit.ly/1k75z6X and can be streamed and shared on youtube at http://youtu.be/v2o0nCLLDUQ.  The track was written for the upcoming movie A Thousand Times Goodnight that was recently awarded the Special Grand Prix of the jury at Montreal Film Festival, and the video features Academy award-winning French actress Juliette Binoche and the “Game of Thrones” star Nikolaj Coster-Waldau.Ane Brun is set to embark on a North American tour with special guest Linnea Olsson, a cellist and singer who will support Brun as a featured musician. “I am very excited to perform my music in America,” says Olsson. “I love touring in the states and I am curious about how the audience will receive my songs. I can’t wait to get there.” The tour is in celebration of Brun’s new collection  Rareties , out now on her own Balloon Ranger label; please see below for complete tour dates.Brun’s second collection of the year, Rareties follows the release of Songs 2003-2013 in May and is being praised by Stereo Subversion as “the proper monument for an artist intent on documenting an achievement” and by Ear Buddy as a “must listen.” Both collections are celebrations of Brun’s critically acclaimed and highly successful ten-year music career, and Rarities features lesser-known works spanning her time as a recording artist. Esquire recently premiered Brun’s cover of Beyoncé’s “Halo” HERE and the track can also be streamed and shared via Soundcloud HERE.According to Brun, “Rarities is a compilation of songs and recordings that have either not been released, or have been released on other compilations or as singles. This is a way to empty our cupboards of recordings that have been lying around, and another way to mark my ten year anniversary as an artist.” The collection includes covers of Björk and The Beatles, among others, as well as new versions of fan favorites and previously unreleased songs. See below for full track listing.Rarities collects some of the more private moments from Brun’s career. Her cover of “Halo” derives from a tradition of singing the song backstage to warm up on her 2009 tour with The Diamonds. The Beatles’ “From Me To You” and Amerie’s “1 Thing” were recorded alone in Brun’s Stockholm studio. The piano version of “Oh Love,” is a recording of a performance of the song for a small group of friends. On the other hand, Rarities also includes some very public moments released for the first time. Brun’s rendition of Björk’s “Joga” was recorded at the 2012 Polar Prize Award Ceremony in front of Björk herself and a TV audience of millions. Brun remembers being “as nervous as I’ve ever been, both before and after.” Fans may recognize the new version of “Humming One of Your Songs,” the first track from Brun’s very first album, from renditions at live shows the past few years.Brun was born in Norway and lives in Stockholm. She has recorded eight albums over the last ten years. In 2005, her second album A Temporary Dive earned her critical acclaim at home and abroad and the Norwegian Grammy for Best Female Artist. Her third album The Changing Of The Seasons was recorded in Iceland by Valgier Sigursson, of which theNew York Times said, “Changing of the Seasons offers the kind of comfort that only well-versed singer-songwriters can give. An album full of sad songs to revel in as the days grow shorter and colder, Seasons is Brun’s strongest work yet.”Songs 2003-2013 was a confirmation of Brun’s achievements as a songwriter, and Rarities furthers that proclamation, celebrating the less-known corners of Brun’s catalog.ANE BRUN TOUR DATES*With special guest Linnea OlssonFebruary 11            Vienna, VA            Jammin Java*February 12            New York, NY            Highline Ballroom*February 13             Montreal, QC            L’Astral*February 14            Toronto, ON            Rivoli*February 15            Chicago, IL            Schubas Tavern*February 17            Vancouver, BC            Electric Owl*February 18            Seattle, WA            Crocodile Lounge*

Xiu Xiu - Angel Guts: Red Classrom

Angel Guts: Red Classroom
Polyvinyl Records
4 February 2014Angel Guts: Red Classroom is the beginning of Xiu Xiu's descent from grayness into the deepest blackness endurable. It is the sound of Xiu Xiu's death.

This is a bold proposition, even for a band that has never so much pushed the envelope as pulled it (forcefully) away from the line other musicians are willing to toe. And now, in what is unquestionably their darkest hour, Xiu Xiu have lit the envelope on fire and are using it as a torch to light the path ahead.

Having spent the previous four years living in North Carolina, primary songwriter Jamie Stewart relocated to Los Angeles, moving blindly into a neighborhood whose notoriously dangerous reputation was unknown to him.

A park divided among four gangs, a lake routinely dragged for bodies, a building wherein two infant skeletons were recently uncovered -- the aura of his new home bleeds into every pore of the album, each lyric and note bearing traces of its essence: the terrible beauty, the despair, the violence, the ultra humanity, the uncertainty.

"I know to a degree I must have romanticized it," Stewart admits, "But when it's not safe to go out at night, what else can one?"

Romanticized is hardly the word anyone other than Stewart would use. Like its namesake, a Japanese erotic noir film, Angel Guts: Red Classroom is as radical as it is inventive. The subject matter -- racialized sex, double suicide, double penetration, criminality, fear of physical harm -- is unsuitable for the faint of heart. But when the heart has stopped beating, only the soul remains to carry on. And here, Stewart transcribes his without boundaries.

"Your face is down alone / On your desk / At the end of the city / You were squashed into / There is no one you love." So begins the album's first verse.

In the wrong hands, such topics could be rendered as far-fetched fantasies. But Stewart's evocative vocals lend his provocative lyrics the balance they need, grounding them in a stark realism that forces us to acknowledge their existence, even confront them (as discomforting as that is).

Unsettling, too, is the music. Working with only analog synths, drum set, and 1970's analog drum machines, Xiu Xiu has never before sounded so focused, so captivating, so intent on delivering a kick to the throat.

Though influences can be cited (Suicide, Kraftwerk, Nico, Einstürzende Neubauten), they are ultimately far less relevant than the mark this album will leave on other musicians and music fans from this point forward.

Take "Stupid in the Dark" -- its tone ominous and pulsing, its harmonies simple and direct, its grip unrelenting. Or "Botanica de Los Angeles," a sparse, yet undeniably anthemic merging of bruising drums and bone-rattling bass synths.

Unbearably dark, yet incredibly illuminating, on the John Congleton-produced Angel Guts: Red Classroom Xiu Xiu continues to forge (and at times risk) its reputation as avant-garde pioneers. It is the work of a band unraveling to its core and exposing the boldness within.

Xiu Xiu may be dead, but its will is more alive than ever.

Jack Name Announces Winter 2014 Tour

JACK NAME ANNOUNCES WINTER 2014 TOUR IN SUPPORT OFLIGHT SHOW, OUT JANUARY 21ST ON GOD? RECORDS
Los Angeles underground spectre, Jack Name, is releasing his rock and roll sci-fi novella, Light Show , on January 21st via Drag City imprint God? Records. Whiffs of young Brian Eno, Gary Numan, Chrome, ELO, Bruce Haack, Richard O'Brien (a la "Rocky Horror") and Stefan Wul stain the sleeves of this story. It's a chilling glimpse into an imaginary world torn apart by a war between rival gangs, the shadows, and the wooly bullies as teenage vandals and druid-like oracles lead the resistance against a juggernaut of psychological warlords. The sounds are a dense and ever-shifting beast and the narrative in this genre-bending explosion of sonic fiction holds as much significance as the sound.
Following this month's overseas solo tour and performances as guitarist with White Fence, Jack Name and band will kick off a North American tour in late January.  And for this select run, each night's performance will be a true representation of Light Show, a rarity for Jack who usually puts on a very different display in every city.

Sixth June streams entire new EP for Mannequin Records

SIXTH JUNE STREAMS ENTIRE PLEASURE EP
VIA
OUT NEXT WEEK ON
Serbian duo Sixth June - Laszlo Antal and Lidija Andonov - come with a fresh new 5 tracks 12'' EP "Pleasure". They play minimal, industrial synthesized music – digging into the colder corners of the synthetic Eighties for inspiration (Gary Numan, John Foxx, Depeche Mode).

Sixth June started their musical adventure back in 2007 and they are considered one of the purest talents in the minimal synth new scene. Rising from the obscure music scene in Belgrade, they re-based some years ago in the analog synthesizers paradise called Berlin.

Their debut album, ‘Everytime’, released back in March 2010 by the German label Genetic Music and the previous EP on Mannequin, "Back For A Day", was bringing the band to play to most of Europe. The duo represents perfectly the two sides of the same coin, in fact while Laszlo is producing obscure but expressive, powerful and danceable textures, on the back side the voice of Lidija is living the shape to a wobbling atmosphere you won’t escape from.

Lidija, apart singing in Sixth June, is a professional actress. Laszlo, composer of all the tracks, instead is an illustrator and music video director.

Strongly recommended to fans of Depeche Mode, Gary Numan, Soft Metals, Xeno & Oaklander.

You can stream the record in it's entirety right now (it's out next week). Find a link to the stream as well as a recent interview they did with Noisey.

About Mannequin Records: Mannequin Records, founded in Italy but now based in Berlin, has been active since 2008 in the synth wave, electronic, experimental and psychedelic rock scene, with the purpose of bringing back to life and proposing bands from this mostly undiscovered world. Mannequin has the dual and parallel aim to unearth hidden or unpublished gems running along a road that starts from the period of reference for this kind of music (late 70's – mid 80's) as well as releasing records for contemporary artists that share a similar aesthetic. Faithful to the spirit of DIY, our releases are published in ultra limited, artfully packaged and hand numbered editions.
Mannequin has released records from Tropic of Cancer, Mushy, and even collaborated with Sacred Bones to re-issue the classic 1981 album by UV Pop, No Songs Tomorrow, and now is proud to be celebrating it's five year anniversary with three brand new releases from Sixth June, Deathday, & Police Des Moeurs

Perfect Pussy Annouce Signing & North American Tour

 PERFECT PUSSYPhoto Credit: Ben Cleeton
Perfect Pussy have just announced their recent signing to Brooklyn indie tastemaker label Captured Tracks. One of the most fearless and intriguing projects to surface in recent years, the band garnered widespread critical acclaim following the release of a four song EP, titled I have lost all desire for feeling, earlier this year. Veiled beneath layers of exquisitely abrasive noise, frontwoman Meredith Graves' lyrics are disarming, brutally honest and poetic, possessing a feverish intensity that can only be matched by Graves' electric stage presence.Hailing from Syracuse, New York, the band is comprised of members from the local punk and hardcore community. Pitchfork recently interviewed Graves for a , where the singer reveals the inspiration behind the music, her approach to lyricism and the personal validation received from the project's provocative name.

Blackest Ever Black announces LP for Stefan Jaworzyn

A TRANSMISSION FROM:

STEFAN JAWORZYN
DRAINED OF CONNOTATION
(a collection of synth improvisations from 1982)
OUT 1/27/13
PRE-ORDER
Drained Of Connotation is a collection of synth improvisations recorded by Stefan Jaworzyn in 1982, recently rediscovered by the artist when trawling his cassette archive for the 2013 Skullflower KINO reissue/compilation series.

Writer, musician and misanthrope Jaworzyn was a notorious and energetic presence in the UK underground of the 1980s and '90s. Following a brief stint in Whitehouse, in '86 he formed Skullflower with Matthew Bower and remained the band’s guitarist for four years, playing on Birthdeath (1988), Form Destroyer (1989) and Xaman (1990), among others. In 1990 he established the Shock label, which, like the annual Shock Around The Clock film festival, grew out of Shock Xpress – the seminal, vigorously outspoken horror/exploitation zine edited by Jaworzyn for most of its lifespan. Shock Records was a resounding boot to the arse of the narrow-minded, welcoming artists as disparate as Lol Coxhill, Coil, Drunks With Guns, The Dead C and Ramleh into its fold.

Jaworzyn rejoined Whitehouse in 1990-91, and around this time was also invited to participate in a roundtable discussion about serial killers on Channel 4’s After Dark programme – it ended with him vehemently debating the meaning of the word “integrity” with fellow guest Michael Winner. Despite having supposedly renounced the guitar, in '91 Jaworzyn returned to the instrument with some venom, forming Ascension (later Descension) with drummer Tony Irving; the band’s turbulent brand of free music – documented on several substantial CD and LP releases – famously incited an audience riot when they supported Sonic Youth at Kentish Town Forum in ’96. In the second half of the decade Jaworzyn retired the Shock label and largely withdrew from music, choosing to focus on drinking and cursing; although his The Texas Chain Saw Massacre Companion was published by Titan Books in 2003, and on occasion he emerged to play live (including the Whitehouse 'farewell' show in a duo with drummer Chris Corsano).

Now, after seventeen years off the grid, Jaworzyn has reappeared. 2013 saw him reactive Shock to issue two 12” EPs of emphatic new solo material, as well as Eaten Away By Shadows (a compilation of solo bedroom recordings from ’82-’83) and the aforementioned Skullflower KINO CD series. Pre-dating the Eaten Away tracks, the driving, faintly sociopathic and supremely zoned pieces on Drained Of Connotation (BLACKEST027) were created in early/mid-'82 at Jaworzyn’s then home in Cardiff using a Korg MS10 or 20 (on loan from musical collaborator Robert Lawrence) and his beloved Dr Rhythm drum machine. SJ: “While a maniacal edge predominates, a couple of pieces seem surprisingly ‘mellow’, a concept infrequently associated with my subsequent endeavours and disposition.”

This release is being made available by Blackest Ever Black in a vinyl edition of 700 copies, mastered by Noel Summerville, and also in digital formats. The digital edition includes an additional 'noise' piece, 'Why Must We Rot', also recorded in Cardiff in early/mid-'82, this time using an EMS Synthi AKS (loaned by Alex Binnie, who borrowed it from his art college).

Angel Olsen's "Forgiven/Forgotten" Video

WATCH NEW VIDEO FOR ANGEL OLSEN'S "FORGIVEN/FORGOTTEN" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PinTAGbIsV4
NEW ALBUM, BURN YOUR FIRE FOR NO WITNESS, OUT FEBRUARY 18TH ON JAGJAGUWAR
"On 'Forgiven/Forgotten' the explosive lead-off single from her second album, Burn Your Fire for No Witness, the instruments around her finally match the intensity of her voice."- Pitchfork [Best New Track]
"Her new album doesn't come out till February, but it's an early frontrunner for one of Bob Boilen's favorites in 2014." - NPR Music's "All Songs Considered"
"[Angel Olsen] has gone ahead and plugged in, with a full rock band sound that seems like it's rearing to overwhelm everything in its path." - The FADER
"For anyone who knows Olsen-a melancholy folkie credited with a gripping presence in concert-these two chugging minutes (counting the wailing micro-solo) will come as a surprise. But when you yourself are ready to forgive and forget a slight, you'd do well to keep this song's unhurried economy in mind." - Entertainment Weekly
As announced last month, Angel Olsen will release her ethereal and powerful new album,  Burn Your Fire for No Witness on February 18, 2014 via Jagjaguwar. Throughout this "collection of songs, grown in a year of heartbreak, travel, and transformation," Olsen sings with full-throated exultation, admonition, and bold, expressive melody. And, with the help of producer John Congleton, her music now crackles with a churning, rumbling low end and a brighter energy. With Burn Your Fire for No Witness, a more revealing and self-assured Olsen is opening up, allowing us to be in the room with her at the very genesis of these songs, when the thread of creation is most vulnerable and least filtered.
After sharing Burn Your Fire for No Witness's first single, "Forgiven/Forgotten," Olsen now offers a visual representation with the song's brand new video directed by creative partner,  Zia Anger . Olsen and Zia's collaborative trajectory continues following their work together on videos for 7" single, "Sweet Dreams,"  and  Half Way Home 's  "Tiniest Seed."

" I traveled to Asheville with a couple rolls of 16mm film and a Bolex camera. The only idea Angel and I had decided on was that she should be given a chance to act - to perform in a way most people have never seen her perform. Upon arriving I was immediately struck by the beautiful and unruly area of Malvern Hills. Suburbia had never spoken to me like that before. Our idea morphed into a suburban fantasy just as lawless as its backdrop. It is complete with a 'Freaks and Geeks'-inspired lovers quarrel that ends with the male character physically being hand-scratched out of the film." - Zia Anger  "FORGIVEN/FORGOTTEN" STREAM - http://bit.ly/1fE0CSUAngel will continue to enthrall audiences around the world as she and her band embark on another year of endless touring on the album's release date. A bunch of new European dates have been added below.
