Cashmere Cat shares new single
CASHMERE CAT SHARES "WITH ME" VIA PITCHFORK
ANNOUNCES WEDDING BELLS EP DUE IN 2014 VIA LUCKYME
Stream: "With Me" - http://soundcloud.com/cashmerecat/withme
LuckyMe are very proud to announce the signing of Cashmere Cat.
Cashmere Cat is the production alias of young Norwegian producer Magnus August Hoiberg - who has caught a buzz this year amidst rumors of some big name production work alongside Rihanna hit-maker Benny Blanco. But while perhaps this is a story you got used to this year as our artists produced for Lil Wayne, Jay Z, Drake, Pusha T, Future, Jeremih, Ludacris, Rick Ross & Kanye West - we're here to present new music with it's own purpose. Not dependent on vocalists, Cashmere Cat's own music is crammed full of smart melodic ideas and arrangement. These are songs built in equal parts from glittering RnB, touching on French electro, driven by the heavyweight bottom end of 00's club Hip Hop - this is wide, cinematic and unabashedly bright new dance music. Rarely does a new artist emerge with such a unique voice across their work - Cashmere Cat is unconcerned with where he fits with DJs and is more influenced by Pop & Hip Hop than today's stadium filling dance acts. But his music is smarter for it.
Ahead of his first vinyl release in January - the four track Wedding Bells EP - we bring you a taste of what's to come with a single entitled "With Me". Thick, satin grand piano chords open an unusually romantic refrain which collides into Death Grips-esk distorted percussion and Cat's hallmark autotune solos building towards euphoric thizzing crescendo before collapsing to a single beating broken-heart.
For those previously familiar with Cashmere Cat, the Wedding Bells EP represents the next stage in his development with striking attention to detail whilst never loosing its hooks. Along with support so far from: Kode 9, Éclair Fifi, Nguzunguzu, Hud Mo, Rustie, Baauer, Diplo, Skrillex, A Trak,Brodinski - We are honored to be working with CC to bring you his attempt at a perfect thing in an imperfect world.

Pure Volume Premieres Big Harp's "Waiting For Some Drunk"
Pure Volume Premieres Big Harp's "Waiting For Some Drunk" videoSophomore Album Chain Letters Out Now On Saddle Creek
Watch: "Waiting For Some Drunk" via Pure Volume
Los Angeles-based Big Harp just released a video for "Waiting For Some Drunk" from Chain Letters out now on Saddle Creek. The video premiered on Pure Volume and the band's Stefanie Drootin-Senseney said, "We really love (director) Ginevra Boni's aesthetic. When she approached us about doing a video based on vintage neon, we knew it would would turn out really cool. The visuals are beautiful on their own, and they also really complement our song." Earlier this year, All Music Guide raved about Big Harp's sophomore album saying, "Chain Letters is an evolutionary step. Idiosyncratic, revelatory, raucous, it's a nasty, beautiful rock & roll baptism in pleasure, both carnal and spiritual" and the band was featured in an episode of NPR's Weekend Edition. On the show the pair discuss balancing parenthood with band life. You can listen to the piece online and order the album at the Saddle Creek online store. Big Harp will head into the studio early next year to record with John Congleton. More details on the new recording will be release shortly.
Big Harp's sophomore album Chain Letters was recorded at Omaha's ARC studios with engineer Ben Brodin and partly at the band's Los Angeles home. The album was mixed by Mike Mogis (Bright Eyes, M Ward, First Aid Kit). On Chain Letters, the duo of Chris Senseney and Stefanie Drootin-Senseney is joined by their friend John Voris on drums. The album moves away from the rustic, pastoral sound of their debut and towards a truer union of their backgrounds (Chris grew up in Valentine, NE, an isolated cow town of 2,800; Stefanie is a native Angeleno). Built on a foundation of crackling fuzz bass and angular electric guitars and keyboards, the songs on Chain Letters play like a series of character sketches centered around escape and surrender, and the blurred borders where the two become indistinguishable.
Chris and Stefanie (The Good Life, Bright Eyes, She & Him) formed Big Harp in December 2010, after a three-year whirlwind that saw the two meet, have a baby, move halfway across the country, get married, move halfway across the country again, and have another baby. As Chris tells it, "I was playing in a band opening for The Good Life. Stef and I started hanging out, binge-smoking and chain-drinking, and we never stopped. Never stopped hanging out I mean. Within a few months Stef had a gut full of baby, and the bender came to a quick and bloody end." When the dust settled, they holed up in Stefanie's parents' spare bedroom, practiced for a week, and recorded their debut album White Hat, a collection of intimate, low-key folk-rock laced with subtle irony and dark humor that earned them comparisons to songwriters like Nick Cave, Tom Waits and Townes Van Zandt.
From the pained apathy of "You Can't Save 'Em All" to the cracked parade march of "Call Out the Cavalry, Strike Up the Band," Chain Letters finds the band enveloping and exploding their literate songs with fuzzed-out, needle-sharp textures. Chris says, "We really built the songs around Stef's fuzz bass. It was kind of funny -- we were sitting around in a bedroom playing really loud with no drums, just kind of trusting that it was going to make sense once we put it all together. Hopefully we landed closer to mid-'70's Iggy Pop than Leonard Cohen this time. Really I'd like it to sound like Leonard Cohen fronting The Pixies. It doesn't though. Maybe a little. You tell us."

The word ‘prodigy’ gets thrown around a little too often, but for Berlin based Bryan Muller AKA SCNTST, the term is somewhat unavoidable. Germany’s self-proclaimed techno child wonder and arguable Boysnoize Records’ finest recent signing is set to release his highly anticipated debut
Self Therapy
on December 10th.Born in 1993 and raised in Munich on a diet of rock and hip-hop, SCNTST developed a love for intricate rhythms and sequences at an early age. With a far-reaching skill set disproportionate to his age, it was only a matter of time before he drew the attention of Boysnoize Records at the age of just 17, dropping his first EP on Alex Ridha’s electronica powerhouse in 2011. Young prodigy? Audible savant of his time? From hypnotically progressive opener"Velour", the hard-hitting, bombastic club sounds of "Mintra", right through to the last dreamy keys of closing title track –
Self Therapy
is an unstoppable debut album by anyone’s standards and regardless of any tag. With the release of his first full-length looming, it seems the boy from Munich has come of age.

J. Roddy Walston & The Business’s Magnetic Performance on the Late Show With David Letterman, VH1 Big Morning Buzz

"Rollicking, frenzied live performances" - NPR's Weekend Edition
Complete with shrieks, shakes and of course a “holler and a moan,” J. Roddy Walston & The Business wrapped up a whirlwind duo of performances in New York City last week. Thursday night the Baltimore-bred quartet dominated the Late Show with David Letterman stage with their performance of “Heavy Bells”. Watch and share it HERE.
Then early Friday morning the band re-created their exuberant performance of “Heavy Bells”, a Top 20 track at Alternative radio, for the audience of VH1’s Big Morning Buzz Live with Carrie Keagan. Check out that dynamic rendition of the song HERE.
Endlessly shifting from snarling and stompy to warm and soulful, it is this track that kicks off the band’s newest album, Essential Tremors. Co-produced by Matt Wignall (Delta Spirit, Cold War Kids) and Grammy-winning producer/engineer Mark Neill (The Black Keys) at Neill’s own Soil of the South Studios, the follow-up to 2010’s much-acclaimed self-titled sophomore album also finds the band crafting lyrics that ultimately serve as a secret language to the initiated listener with a scrappy yet sublime sound that honors the both band’s Southern roots and punk spirit.

The Dissolve Premieres Sick Birds Die Easy Trailer
The Dissolve Premieres Sick Birds Die Easy TrailerSick Birds Die Easy Film And Soundtrack Out February 11
Winner New Horizons Film Festival
Official Selection Hot Docs 2013
Official Selection Woodstock Film Festival
Watch: Sick Birds Die Easy Trailer via The Dissolve Listen: "Morbid Masters" via Impose or SoundCloud
The Dissolve has premiered the trailer for Nik Fackler's second feature film Sick Birds Die Easy which will be released on February 11. The movie was filmed on location in Gabon, Africa. Fackler gave each cast member (all close friends of the director, but with strikingly opposing personalities) a different kind of Camera and set them loose in the jungle. Fackler attempted to guide the resulting chaos with an intent to create a final chapter of the biblical bible by asking the question: after the apocalypse, will humanity return to Eden? What started as an attempt to make art, quickly became very real and dangerous for the cast and crew, but inevitably resulted in the answer to the Fackler's question.
Exploring the worlds of white privilege, magical realism and the apocalypse, Director Nik Fackler takes a drug addled conspiracy theorist, an entitled love drunk musician, and an American film crew deep into the jungles of Western Africa, searching for Iboga, an extremely potent psychedelic plant said to have the ability to heal drug addiction. What initially begins as a trip towards enlightenment, becomes a desperate attempt at maintaining sanity.
With a mad mix of compellingly hilarious characters, experimental drug use and an array of expertly wielded lo-fi and hi-fi cameras. Fackler capably explodes the fiction / non-fiction divide with an alarming self consciousness and ever more surprising degree of sincerity. Delving into mysticism, politics, colonialism and human nature, Sick Birds Die Easy is a mind bending, fantastical social experiment that will leave you laughing and questioning your own understanding of reality.
While on location and filming in Africa for the documentary Sick Birds Die Easy, Sam Martin(Capgun Coup) wrote music inspired by what we he learned and experienced while living at Ebando village with Anarchist Bwitist. Bwiti is an ancient form of spirituality used by the Babongo, Mitsogo, and Fang tribes who use the psychedelic and dissociative root bark Iboga for their right of passage and initiation ceremonies. Sam Martin wrote over 31 original pieces of music and score for the film, all of which are used in the film and will be released as a separate soundtrack along side it. The music ranges from psychedelic score pieces set against the backdrop of ancient jungle and cosmic landscapes to intimate basement recordings that are reminiscent of Velvet Underground or early genre-twisting sounds found in the original post punk era. Impose premiered "Morbid Masters" from the Sick Birds Die Easy soundtrack and it is also available to stream via SoundCloud.
About the Director:
Born and currently living in Omaha, NE, Fackler made his screen writing and directorial debut with the feature film Lovely, Still, starring Oscar winners Ellen Burstyn and Martin Landau. The 2008 release received critical praise for its artful direction and powerful performances and earned Fackler anIndependent Spirit Award Nomination.
Fackler's career began as a teenager directing short films and music videos for bands such as Bright Eyes, Sia, Azure Ray and Cursive. He was quickly noticed and found himself directed his first features at 23. His most recent music videos have been for his own band, Icky Blossoms, who released their debut album in 2012 on Saddle Creek Records.
For his sophomore feature, Sick Birds Die Easy, Fackler experimented with genre bending and magical realism in the jungles of Africa creating an experimental documentary based around hallucinogenic tourism, white privilege and ancient religions.

CARMEN VILLAIN TO RELEASE SLEEPER REMIXES 12", FEAT. REMIXES BY PEAKING LIGHTS, JD TWITCH OF OPTIMO AND BJØRN TORSKE, DECEMBER 10TH ON SMALLTOWN SUPERSOUND
Carmen Villain (aka the newly Norwegian-based Carmen Hillestad) released her tempestuous debut album,
Sleeper
, earlier this year via Smalltown Supersound. Throughout, Carmen showed her creative range and distinctive production style as she plastered dreamlike vocals over loose, abrasive instrumental tracks on which she played guitar, bass, drum machines, keyboards and percussion. Following an initial 12" featuring album single"Lifeissin" and Prins Thomas' excellent remix, Smalltown Supersound is now releasing a follow-up 12" featuring psychedelic and epic remixes of other standout album tracks by labelmate Bjørn Torske, Peaking Lights and the previously shared remix by Optimo's JD Twitch. She's spun upside-down, turned inside out; she's calling through a kick drum, purring through the wreckage, all tangled up in delay. Chicago's Dance Mania Records has been a huge influence for most of the producers and DJs on Boysnoize Records. “Many 12"s from DJ Funk, DJ Deeon or Paul Johnson that were produced in the middle of the 90s still work so well in any club environment. The idea of simple, jackin' booty house records to use as tools, more or less, have always been timeless weapons in many DJ sets.” - Alex Ridha aka Boys Noize
BNR thought it’s time to pay tribute to one of their favourite labels and producers so they’ve asked the Boysnoize Records crew and friends to produce tracks for this special compilation. Kicking off proceedings in fine booty shaking style we find French producer Feadz ‘shakin that ass’ on ‘Go On Girl’ whilst Strip Steve ‘Busts Your Shit’ with the deeper house soul of Ron Hardy overseeing proceedings.
Bart B More adds some unique industrial flair to the Dance Mania show but of course never forgets that all important Chicago ‘Bounce’, DJ Scholar aka SCNTST keeps it deep with ‘Simple Mane’ whilst adding some classic ‘Oh, Oh’ call and response shouts into the mix and Rynecologist’s ‘B.A.N.’ does exactly what it says on the tin, ‘busts a nut!’
SCNTST pops up again with the frenzied freak of ‘Change Dat Tape’, Boys Noize & Housemeister take it to the ghetto bass and bleep abyss with ‘1988’ and then the Dance Mania maestro himself delivers the totally wigged-out, jackin-stomp of ‘High Frequency’ giving the album that all important stamp of approval.
Things then get stripped down to the bare essentials as Harvard Bass & Pilo step to the plate with the raw Armani jack feel of ‘Twerk Talk’, Audionite busts a move with the hypnotic yet pulverising ‘Trax-O-Matic’ and then Nightslugs kingpin Bok Bok and Rush Hour’s Tom Trago join forces with more clipped and subtle jack roll of ‘Silent G Safari’.
Finally Pipes aka Steven Stoner and Matthew Pipes bring up the tempo with the bell ringing jack riddim that is ‘Double Staxxx’ and BS1 adds the one missing element in between all the 909 kicks and vocal shout refrains – the whistle as ther aptly titled ‘Whistle Jack’ closes out a fine tribute to the legendary jacking funk of Dance Mania.
