HUGH LAURIE HITS THE ROAD IN MAY FOR WEST COAST TOUR

HUGH LAURIE HITS THE ROAD IN MAY FOR WEST COAST TOUR IN SUPPORT OF CURRENT ALBUM DIDN'T IT RAIN    March 24th, 2014 - Globally acclaimed recording artist, actor and performer, Hugh Laurie, has announced he will hit the road for a west coast theater tour in May in support of his current album,DIDN'T IT RAINreleased by Warner Bros. Records in August 2013.

Laurie will be joined by The Copper Bottom Band, which is David Piltch (bass), Vincent Henry (horns), Elizabeth Lea (trombone), Jean McClain (vocals), and Gaby Moreno (vocals) - and is completed by Herman Matthews (drums) and Mark Goldenberg (guitar).

DIDN'T IT RAIN  is Laurie's second album and the follow-up to his celebrated 2011 debut album  LET THEM TALK , a New Orleans blues-driven celebration that included guest vocals from Irma Thomas, Allen Toussaint, and Tom Jones. For  DIDN'T IT RAIN , Laurie follows the trajectory of the blues upstream into the American heartland. It includes songs dating back to early pioneers W.C. Handy ("St Louis Blues")and Jelly Roll Morton ("I Hate A Man Like You") to more recent artists such as Dr. John ("Wild Honey") and Alan Price of The Animals ("Changes"). Produced by  LET THEM TALK  producer Joe Henry (Allen Toussaint, Bonnie Raitt, Billy Bragg),  DIDN'T IT RAIN  was recorded at Ocean Way Studio in Los Angeles.

A commanding front man and lovable raconteur backed by a positively astounding band of world class musicians and vocalists, Hugh Laurie and The Copper Bottom Band present an unforgettable evening of music not to be missed:

"The care with which he selected the songs gathered here, and the relaxed verve of the performances, makes it clear what it is that Laurie loves. Thoroughly Engaging." - The Boston Globe

"For all his fame, accomplishments and polymathic talents, Hugh Laurie's got the blues, inside him and around him. No wonder he is, against type and against the odds, rather good at it." -- Telegraph Magazine / London

Pixies Announce New Album 'Indie Cindy' + Stream

PIXIES
TO RELEASE FIRST FULL STUDIO ALBUM 'INDIE CINDY'IN MORE THAN TWO DECADESStream New Single 'Greens & BLues' Here http://bit.ly/1iUMveD   Special Vinyl Release Confirmed for Record Store Day  “…their songwriting chops have hardly wavered and the best may be yet to come.” — Village VoiceFans have dreamed about it for years, and now Pixies are delivering.   Indie Cindy , the band’s first full studio album since 1991’s  Trompe le Monde , will be released in late April (April 23/Japan, April 28/UK/Europe/International, April 29/North America) on the band’s own independent label, Pixiesmusic (marketed and distributed worldwide by [PIAS] Recordings).  Pre-orders for most configurations can be placed beginning today at iTunes, Amazon, and other online retail outlets.“We started seriously talking about recording new music about four years ago,” said Pixies drummer David Lovering.  “New music seemed like something we just had to do, we just couldn’t continue to go out and tour without anything new.  So the talk evolved into writing and recording, and we’re all very happy with the way everything worked out.”The 12 cuts on  Indie Cindy  were produced by Gil Norton, producer of the band’s classic  Doolittle , Bossanova , and  Trompe le Monde  albums, and recorded during October 2012 at Rockfield Studios in Wales, UK.  The various packages feature a collection of brand new artwork by the legendary graphic artist Vaughan Oliver who created the artwork for all of Pixies’ previous releases.  The album is comprised of “Bagboy,” the band’s first new song in more than a decade, the eight tracks from the band’s  EP-1  and  EP-2 , released September 3, 2013 and January 3, 2014 respectively, plus the three new tunes from the just-released  EP-3  - all written by the Pixies - Black Francis/vocals, guitar; Joey Santiago/guitars; David Lovering/drums, backing vocals.  With EP-1, EP-2 and now  EP-3  having been available only in digital and limited-edition vinyl formats,  Indie Cindy  will mark the first time fans can have all of the new Pixies music in one collection.Pixies are making  Indie Cindy  available in a selection of formats: * as a standard 12-track single-CD digipak with booklet * as a two-disc, deluxe gatefold album, pressed on 180-gram vinyl * as a standard 12-track digital download via iTunes, Amazon, and other online retail sellers * as an expanded digital download exclusively through iTunes that includes a bonus live-in-concert 13-track set recorded during the band’s recently-completed North American tour * available at pixiesmusic.com, a special deluxe, limited edition (5,000) two-disc set (available as a CD and as a deluxe gatefold album pressed on 180-gram vinyl) that includes the 13-track live disc.  This deluxe package also includes a 40-page, hard-back book that features the new artwork produced exclusively for  Indie Cindy .  The CD limited edition is packaged in a special gold-foil hard slipcase. But wait, there’s more.  On April 19, a week before the official release date and exclusively for Record Store Day, Pixies will make  Indie Cindy  available as a special RSD limited edition, two-disc, deluxe gatefold, 180-gram vinyl set, only from independent record stores participating in RSD around the world.  When these are gone, they’re gone. While Pixies have been acclaimed as the most influential, pioneering band of the late 80s alt/rock movement, having blazed the trail for artists from Nirvana to Radiohead to Pearl Jam, today, a whole new generation of music fans are discovering their iconic “loudquietloud” signature sound.  After five genre-defining studio albums, Pixies disbanded in 1993, and then launched their reunion tour in April 2004, playing to sell-out crowds all over the globe for seven years, a longer period of time than they were a band originally.  But writing, recording and releasing new music was something that the band had been wanting to do for a long time, so they secretly booked studio time in Wales for the fall of 2012.  Six days into the recording, founding bassist Kim Deal decided to leave the band; Black Francis, Joey Santiago and David Lovering made the decision to carry on, working with a variety of touring bassists, something they’d never done.  As the UK’s DIY wrote about the new music, “They’re back.  They’re still brilliant.  God save the Pixies.” Indie Cindy  Produced by Gil Norton Recorded at Rockfield Studios, Wales Record label: pixiesmusicBlack Francis - vocals, guitars Joey Santiago - guitars David Lovering - drums, backing vocals Ding - bass Jeremy Dubs - backing vocalsTrack listing: 1. What Goes Boom 2. Craft Spells Announces 'Nausea', Shares First Single

Craft Spells Announces Nausea
Shares First Single "Breaking the Angle Against the Tide"
Sophomore Album Out June 10th
It's been quite some time since we've heard from Justin Vellesteros, i.e. Craft Spells; it's been two years since the release of his Gallery EP and nearly four since his critically acclaimed debut album Idle Labor.  Today we are very happy to announce the return of Craft Spells, with his sophomore album Nausea, due out June 10th.
Produced and recorded in Seattle with Dylan Wall, Nausea is reflective of the artistic and personal growth Vallesteros experienced on his "hiatus". This is not the same Crafts Spells of 2010, but a logical progression for a musician finding his voice, with bolder sentiments and a more mature sound.
The first taste of Nausea comes from "Breaking the Angle Against the Tide", whose layers of delicate strings and fervent lyrics hint at what is in store on the rest of the album.  The track is now available for download.
Click here to listen to & download "Breaking the Angle Agains the Tide"Nausea Tracklisting
01. Nausea
02. Komorebi
03. Changing Faces
04. Instrumental
05. Dwindle
06. Twirl
07. Laughing For My Life
08. First Snow
09. If I Could
10. Breaking the Angle Against the Tide
11. Still Fields (October 10, 1987)
Click here to pre-order After a dormant period following the release of the Gallery EP in 2012, Craft Spells' Justin Vallesteros is back with the gorgeously ambitious Nausea. It's Craft Spells' second proper full length LP, and first since 2010's critically acclaimed Idle Labor.

Since last on the radar, Justin moved to San Francisco to find a niche in the Bay Area music scene. This proved difficult within the regarded garage rock scene and insular DJ night crowds currently dominating the area's music community. Here, Justin fell into a slump, creatively. With a severe bout of writer's block he retreated to his parent's house in Lathrop, CA. Away from the city, he put down his guitar for a full year in favor of properly training himself on piano, the instrument from which all the tracks for Nausea were written.

Being in limbo between the city and the suburbs, Justin felt actual nausea, added to by his admitted semi-addiction to social media and quickly found himself disillusioned. Vallesteros unplugged from that world as much as possible and completely immersed himself in the music (Emmit Rhodes and the solo works of Yellow Magic Orchestra's Haroumi Hosono and Yukihiro Takahashi) and writing (the works of Mishima, for one) that would come to form the LP.

The demos came together in early 2014 and Vallesteros flew to Seattle to produce and record the LP with producer/engineer Dylan Wall. Joining Vallesteros were Craft Spells stalwarts Javier Suarez and Andy Lum. The band went into the studio and recorded a whole and complete work, full of ideas and a new found maturity in both songwriting and recording sophistication. Within the first few seconds of lead single "Breaking the Angle Against the Tide" we know we're not listening to the same Craft Spells anymore. This is a bold, beautiful and lush new sound emphasizing the songwriting abilities Vallesteros always had. An album highlighted by loads of piano, real strings and acoustic guitar, this change is like the color coming alive in the Wizard of Oz. The beautiful "Komorebi" with it's piano chord progression and sorrowful string accompaniment emphasizes this newfound maturity and confidence as a writer that is the next logical step in Craft Spells' career.

Nausea could easily have been a record rife with indecision and anxiety. But like the song for which the album is named, Craft Spells was able to turn the chaos and disillusionment into a work that provides ammo against that very thing, with beauty, vision and melody.
Nausea is out June 10th.

Jadea Kelly celebrates Record Store Day with vinyl release

Jadea Kelly celebrates Record Store Day with vinyl release of CloverAnnounces US East Coast Tour
[image error]
“If you can imagine Patsy Cline writing songs with Feist you kind of have an idea of where Jadea Kelly resides within the musical spectrum”   Pop Stereo
Canada’s newest music-blog darling Jadea Kelly has jumped from singing on albums by the likes of Protest The Hero to the international release on Divergent Recordings of her album “Clover”.   The critically acclaimed album is now being released on Vinyl specifically for Record Store Day April 19th, and followed by a US tour where she will perform for the first time in New York, Washington, Chicago and Philadelphia and Boston.”
Clover was inspired by her time spent at her grandfather’s farm in rural Ontario.  The album touches on the interconnected relationship between farming and working as a musician - and her hope to have a life in music. Although raised in suburban Whitby Ontario, the Kelly family were farmers for generations - and it is on her family’s farm that Jadea composed the majority of the album.
“Everyone involved in the making of the album wanted to keep the integrity of the original analog recording,” said Jadea about the record; “mastering it for vinyl is the final step in the release of Clover.”
Clover was recorded at the Woodshed Studio in Toronto and produced by Stew Crookes (Hawksley Workman, Doug Paisley, One Hundred Dollars) and tracked on analog to 2–inch tape.
Crookes took note of the emotive, angelic vulnerability of these demos and was able to produce and lure the core strength and determination we now hear in Kelly’s voice. With the help of such Toronto players as Jason Sniderman (Blue Peter), Tom Juhas (Ride the Tiger/Friendly Rich), Nigel Hebblewhite (Run With The Kittens) and Gary Craig (Blackie and the Rodeo Kings), Crookes was able to weave a unique assortment of ambient guitars, haunting organ pads, synth bass and delayed string arrangements to support the rich texture of Kelly’s voice.
The album artwork provides an additional visual understanding of Jadea and of Clover. The front and back album panels depict a painted wolf and crow, both decorated with green clover. Both animals, long villainized throughout history, are present within the lyrics on such tracks as “Lone Wolf” and “I’ll Be”.
