Allah-Las met while working at Amoeba Music, a key destination for music lovers in Los Angeles. While this experience helped shape their sensibility, their sound was forged in an underground basement where they came together as a band. They began gigging in Los Angeles in 2008, refining their live performance, and finally released their first 7” single 'Catamaran / Long Journey' in 2011. In 2012, they began their relationship with Innovative Leisure, releasing their first self-titled album, Allah-Las, anchored by their second single 'Tell Me (What’s On Your Mind) / Sacred Sands.' The release was met with critical acclaim and the band toured extensively in the States and abroad before going back into the studio to record their follow-up.
Allah-Las' second album, "Worship The Sun," expands on the sound established by their maiden effort, honing their fusion of West Coast garage rock and roll, Latin percussion and electric folk. As richly textured and timeless as a Southern California beach break, the songs are evocative of Los Angeles’ storied past. Beatniks, artists, surfers, nomads. Remnants of a bygone Sunset Strip.  Golden tans and cosmic sunsets. One can feel the warmth of the sun, but the band deftly avoids the kitsch so often indulged by lovers of these things. Hints of Byrds, Love, Felt, and those who follow are threaded into the tapestry.
LA’s seminal Ferus Gallery – the home of Wallace Berman, Ed Kienholz, Ed Ruscha, Billy Al Bengston – is paid homage in an eponymous instrumental, broadening the scope beyond mere sea, surf, and sand. The lyrics reveal a new maturity; reflections of a band that has grown together through experiences on the road and in the studio. "Worship The Sun" is at once the perfect soundtrack for the greatest surf film never made and for a golden hour drive through Topanga Canyon. Yet, while grounded in the Southern California experience, the appeal of the album is not limited by locale. It is a teenage symphony to the sun, for all those who know its grace.

Rose Windows: “There is a Light” b/w “Fix Me Another One”

Rose Windows' “There is a Light” + “Fix Me Another One” digital single out now

Extends 2014 Spring & Summer Tour Dates

Listen to “There is a Light” Now
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UeC2VZUQmy0

Rose Windows new digital single “There is a Light” b/w “Fix Me Another One” is now available worldwide via Sub Pop. The release will also be available this July as a 7” single, with “There Is A Light” on the A-side, with “Fix Me Another One” on the B-side.

“There is a Light” was written near the end of the band’s sessions for their 2013 LP, The Sun Dogs, and it highlights the band’s talent for creating driving, psych-tinged pop. “Fix Me Another One,” was written under the influence of Curtis Mayfield, who was in heavy rotation while the band toured in support of their aforementioned debut.

Rose Windows “There is a Light” + “Fix Me Another One”  7” single is available for purchase via Sub Pop Mega Mart. There is also an exclusive Mega Mart limited edition, colored vinyl option available (while supplies last).

Rose Windows have extended their 2014 spring & summer U.S. & European tour schedule through September. The band will kick-off a 3 week tour, that begins July 19th in Piemonte, IT at Bliss Beat Festival and ends August 8th in Gothenborg, SE at the Way Out West Festival. Additionally, Rose Windows have a handful of U.S. dates surrounding the tour: July 12th in Brooklyn, NY at Rough Trade NYC; July 13th in Philadelphia, PA at Milkboy; And September 1st in Seattle, WA at Bumbershoot. Please find a list of updated tour dates below.

What People Have Said About Rose Windows:
"After a year on the road, the band’s already multi-faceted sound has grown and developed. Case in point, “There is a Light”: on the surface, they’re playing with the same pool of ’60s folk and ’70s psych-rock influences, creating a lush soundscape of mutli-part harmonies, ragtime piano, tribal percussion, and twangy guitars. Yet, there’s something new going on, whether it’s the doubly shiny production value or newfound deftness of their movements. Regardless, Rose Windows have found an even more profound sweet-spot between the realms of the whimsical and the rollicking." -  Consequence of Sound
"This tasty little piece of grunge psychedelia is the first teaser from Rose Windows' forthcoming debut LP, The Sun Dogs... "Native Dreams" is an expansive, futuristic, long-playing howler and the most recent reason why 2013 already sounds better than its predecessor." -  Seattle Weekly

“Powerful, heavy, and majestic” -   The Stranger

"Seattle's Rose Windows make the kind of modern day psychedelia that's rooted in the innovations of the late 1960s but could only have come together in recent times...bands like Jefferson Airplane come to mind, but they also share Prince Rama's forward thinking approach to Eastern melodies, Laurel Halo's drifting atmospheres, and the retro stoner metal of '90s bands like Sleep and Electric Wizard." - Brooklyn Vegan

"Rose Windows posses a true and immense rock power...solid, compelling songwriting and sounds wonderful; heavy, spacious, guitars flare up amidst the smoke, and when these guys start to rip, there's no stopping them." -  FILTER

"Rose Windows puts its own spin on the music, with instrumental twists and turns that keep you guessing; they don’t sound quite like anybody else." -  Seattle Times

clipping.: 'CLPPNG' out now + watch "Body & Blood" video

CLPPNG, the label debut from Los Angeles rap group clipping. is available now worldwide via Sub PopWatch new NSFW video for “Body & Blood” “Album of the Week” & “Body & Blood”
video premiere via ‘Stereogum’
CLPPNG, the label debut from Los Angeles noise rap group clipping., is now available worldwide via Sub Pop.  The album is led by the singles “Work Work” (feat. Cocc Pistol Cree) and “Body & Blood,”along with highlights “Tonight” (feat. Gangsta Boo), “Summertime” (feat. King T), and “Or Die” (feat. Guce). CLPPNG was produced by the group, mixed by Steve Kaplan and mastered by Brian “Big Bass” Gardner at Bernie Grundman Mastering in Los Angeles.  In celebration of the album’s release, clipping. has put together a free mix for fans featuring some of their favorite tracks, which you can listen to here. You can now watch “Body & Blood,” the intense new video directed by Patrick Kennelly. The NSFW visual premiered via Stereogum, who call it “a video that matches the track’s ferocious bluntness with striking, sometimes harrowing images of the human body(see June 11th video premiere).”Stereogum also selected CLPPNG as it’s “Album of the Week,” and says, “...Where midcity largely belonged to the brick-through-window school of track construction, CLPPNG pulls at least 14 different moods into its 14 tracks. For every squirming, intense burst of synthetic viscera like “Body & Blood” or “Inside Out,” there’s something like the single “Work Work,” an eerie and insinuating piece of music that owes some of its tingling texture to Steve Reich or early Aphex Twin. And for all their experimental impulses, clipping., in their press releases but also in their music, make it very clear that they consider themselves a rap group, not an ongoing comment on the statement of rap or whatever. They toy a bit with the genre’s conventions, but they also hear the genre as one that’s big and inclusive enough for whatever horrible noises they come up with. And they’re right. Rap has always been a more fluid and advanced form of music than its detractors, or even some of its devotees, are willing to believe, and it damn sure has room for these guys (see June 10th feature).”  clipping.’s previously announced 2014 European and North American summer tour dates in support ofCLPPNG  have been extended. The tour currently spans Monday, June 11th in Moscow, RU at Powerhouse through Friday, August 22nd in Philadelphia, PA at Union Transfer. There will be additional live dates announced shortly. What people are saying about CLPPNG:
“Let the band and album names be a warning for this industrial act featuring copious rapping. You are about to receive rough treatment, heavily stylized...It's all a grand experiment, an anomaly, a freak thing.”  [First Listen] -  NPR Music "Hip-hop is headed to noisier terrain, and the Los Angeles trio does Kanye and Death Grips one better by recording with actual noises..." [10 Artists You Need To Know] -  Rolling Stone "CLPPNG is the work of hip hop auteurs delivering the shock of the new." [Review, 4/5] -  MOJO "It's only so often that a hip-hop group comes along with something that could be described as truly unique. This is a testament to LA trio clipping., who can legitimately boast an original sound." [Review, 8/ 10] -  CLASH "Scalding second from LA avant-rap trio." [Review, 8/ 10]  UNCUT “clipping's nightmare is riveting, particularly during its sweat-inducing peak 'Get Up', which uses an alarm clock as a beat underneath breakneck verses.” [Review, 8/10] -  NME CLPPNG...exists to open up boundaries, kick ordinary in the teeth. Daveed Diggs leads, with Willian Hutson and Jonathan Snipes providing cutting production that pendulum swings between deft minimalism and heart-stealing punches.” [Album Premiere] -  This Is Fake DIY "I think they topped what they did with Midcity;...Probably the most creative hip hop album I'm going to hear this year." [Review, 9/10] -  The Needle Drop "Leave your notions of what you think hip-hop should be at the door and let clipping. introduce you into the post-Yeezus world of alternative hip-hop" -  The 405 “The California rap trio draws on a range of rebellious genres — most evidently gangsta rap and severe electronic and tape music — but mixes them with a scientist’s precision. It is the illusion of chaos — chaos carefully curated, like Rockwell doing Pollock...CLPPNG is an excellent, beautifully-executed record.” [Review, 8 /10] -  Tiny Mix Tapes

"Clocking in at nearly an hour, the Adderall-bought-off-the-street raps of MC Daveed Diggs—too fast, too scary, and too weird for your average hip-hop head—are only matched by the production, and that production is a killer. If Death Grips is the Father of this newfound punked-up grit-hop and Yeezus is the Son, then clipping. may have very well just staked out a place as Holy Ghost." -  Impose

“They’re not ceasing their distinct punk-rap, but they’re offering a new portion of the spectrum. If you found it hard to stomach their previous material, CLPPNG will provide you a rope, from which you can drag yourself into their miscreant lair. Fair warning: they may not let you leave.” [Review, 8.5 / 10] -  The Line Of Best Fit CLPPNG makes a sterling argument for the intersection of noise and hip-hop tropes.” [Review, 8/10] - Drowned in Sound

“...Check the hammering EBM rhythm, sleazy robo-voice and power tools (!) on ‘Body And Blood’. Elsewhere you’ll find minimalist rattlers (‘Summertime’ feat Compton veteran King T), alarm-clock horror-jams (‘Get Up’) and abstract tongue-twisters something akin to labelmates Shabazz Palaces (‘Taking Off’).” [“Body & Blood”] -  F ACT

Sarah Jaffe to Play in Los Angeles at The Bootleg Theatre

Sarah Jaffe to Play in Los Angeles at The Bootleg Theatre on July 15th With The Polyphonic SpreeIn Anticipation of New Full-Length Studio Album  Don’t Disconnect  Due out August 19th on Kirtland Records

New York, NY – A few short weeks ago, 28-year-old Texas native Sarah Jaffe announced the August 19th release of her third full-length studio album – Don’t Disconnect – via Kirtland Records.  On the heels of that news, Jaffe is announcing summer tour dates with choral symphonic rock band The Polyphonic Spree.  The high profile main support slot is just one of many for Jaffe who has previously shared the stage with Chelsea WolfeNorah JonesLou BarlowBlitzen TrapperNew MultitudesDavid Gray and Midlake among others.  All confirmed dates with The Polyphonic Spree are west of the Mississippi with fall US tour plans in the works that has Jaffe visiting the Midwest and East Coast.

The summer tour dates will give Jaffe a chance to play some of her new songs live for the first time.  Recorded this past winter in Denton, TX with the help of Midlake’s McKenzie Smith, Don’t Disconnect finds Jaffe continuing to evolve sonically.  She’s come a long way since her self-released debut EP  Even Born Again  – a collection of folk-pop songs that featured acoustic guitar, strings and a drum alongside her hauntingly beautiful voice.  Originally released in 2008, Even Born Again was followed by her debut album  Suburban Nature  (Kirtland 2010) and in 2012 she released  The Body Wins .  She spent the next two years touring, lending her voice to a Pixar short  The Blue Umbrella  and working on a side project with hip-hop producer S1 (Kanye WestMadonnaJay Z) called The Dividends.  The latter landed her a spot on the most recent Eminem record  MMLP2  where she contributed her writing and vocal talents to the first song on the album – “Bad Guy.”

An old soul, Jaffe’s ability to weave a narrative for the listener and create a feeling of intimacy has never faltered.  Her upcoming album Don’t Disconnect continues that tradition as Jaffe delves even further into a synth-pop world.  These summer dates with The Polyphonic Spree will be the perfect opportunity to introduce her fans to the new songs as she gears up for the August 19th album release.  There are videos in the works as well as remixes and look for the first single “Lover Girl” to drop in advance of the Polyphonic trek.

It makes perfect sense that I was asked to write a bio for J Mascis. Let's face it, he and I have a long history. It all started the first time I saw him live. It was in New York City. I don't remember when or where, but I think he was walking around. I was probably walking around, too. The second time was also in New York, at a Mexican restaurant in the East Village (the one that takes credit cards now, but didn't used to). Years later I actually met him at the SXSW festival though a friend who works at Sub Pop. I guess that meeting went well, because when that friend from Sub Pop got married, she sat me at the same table as J. Sounds unbelievable? I suggest you look at the picture below. Now keep staring at that picture until August 26th. That's when J's new acoustic album Tied to a Star comes out on Sub Pop records. It  features appearances by Ken Maiuri, Pall Jenkins, Mark Mulcahy, and Chan Marshall. Had I been in the area, I'm sure I would've been asked to play on it, too (read more at Sub Pop).J Mascis
