Speedy Ortiz debuts David Lynch-inspired video via Vanity Fair + Embarking on tour benefitting GRCF

SPEEDY ORTIZ SHARES "MY DEAD GIRL" VIDEO VIA VANITY FAIR
EMBARKING ON ALL-AGES TOUR WITH PROCEEDS BENEFITTING THE GIRLS ROCK CAMP FOUNDATION
AWARDED 'ARTIST OF THE YEAR' HONORS BY NOISEY
Speedy Ortiz teamed up with director Elle Schneider to create the David Lynch-homaging video for "My Dead Girl". Speedy Ortiz drummer Mike Falcone explains why Lynch is their favorite neo-noir filmmaker and how he inspired the band's music video, "He's the master when it comes to emulation of dreams. Mulholland Drive might have the best two-hour dream sequence out of any movie because it feels like a vivid subconscious progression. An extreme scenario might generate a completely nonchalant reaction, or vice versa. Bizarre details can feel totally logical. This is partially why the puppets are in our video. When you're within a dream, puppets hanging out at a casino might make complete sense."
Releasing "My Dead Girl" on Vanity Fair's website exactly one week prior to their upcoming tour, the band is excited to bring more awareness to the Girls Rock Camp Foundation by headlining a series of all-ages shows from which 100% of the net proceeds will benefit the Girls Rock Camp Foundation (http://www.girlsrockcampfoundation.org/). GRCF is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing funding for Girls Rock Camps. The purpose of the camps is to develop life skills, creative expression and collaboration through music. Since its inception in 2014, GRCF have supported over 44 camps for girls of all economic backgrounds in both cities and rural areas.
To further incentivize donations, GRCF and artist Michael DeForge have teamed up w/ Speedy Ortiz to offer exclusive prizes for various donation levels (baseline ticket prices may vary slightly in certain venues):
$10 = ticket only, no donation
$15 = ticket +$5 GRCF donation (free custom Speedy Ortiz poster by Michael DeForge for that night's show!)
$20 = ticket +$10 GRCF donation (free custom Speedy Ortiz nail art stickers!)
$40 = ticket +$30 GRCF donation (free GRC print (ex: http://www.girlsrockcampfoundation.org/fully-funded) + all other prizes included!)
Speaking further about the tour, Speedy Ortiz' Sadie Dupuis said:
"We toured non-stop in 2015 and wanted to cap it off playing a series of all ages shows (which is always our favorite kind of show). We've also wanted to do a tour with a charity fundraising component for a long while. We've done a few fundraisers this year--for the Ferguson Library and the Baltimore Food Bank--but for this tour, we wanted to do something that had a national impact while still supporting local communities.
The Girls Rock Camp Foundation was the perfect choice. GRCF provides funding and support to the the various Girls Rock organizations around the world, which in turn provide affordable music education to kids. Girls Rock helps level the music business' playing field by coaching girls to form bands, develop skills in music engineering and technical production, and build their self esteem along the way. We love the work GRCF does, and are proud to support them on this tour--and can't wait to play with a Girls Rock Boston band at our hometown show! We're also so lucky that our friend Michael DeForge, one of the best comics writers and illustrators around, has designed a narrative poster series to help benefit GRCF as well." See below for all upcoming tour dates and what the press is saying about Foil Deer.

NPR Music premieres "Christmas Without A Kiss" video from Smoke Fairies, Wild Winter out now on Full Time Hobby

NPR MUSIC PREMIERES
SMOKE FAIRIES VIDEO
“CHRISTMAS WITHOUT A KISS”

SEASONALLY-THEMED ALBUM WILD WINTER OUT NOW ON FULL TIME HOBBY    “Smoke Fairies appear to have tapped into this mid-Winter noir. It’s an intriguing return, one which allies their soft, folk-hued vocals to some rather distorted effects.”—Clash Music “Smoke Fairies rely on intertwining…their two voices move in close harmonies,
with timbres blending almost like sisters.”—New York Times
NPR Music premieres Smoke Fairies new video “Christmas Without A Kiss” from their holiday-themed collection Wild Winter . The album is out now on Full Time Hobby . NPR Music says the song “beautifully captures unfulfilled holiday wishes with moody vocals and distorted guitar. The song sounds like a Christmas carol stretched and warped like a half-melted string of lights.” You can view the post on NPR Music HERE and share via YouTube HERE The New York Times saysChristmas and winter turn out to be ideal subjects for new songs by Smoke Fairies: the songwriters, guitarists and singers Katherine Blamire and Jessica Davies and their band. It’s a season of personal responses to age-old traditions — something akin to Smoke Fairies’ music, which draws on the modal tunes of British folk traditions as refracted through 1960s psychedelia. With electric guitars that shimmer and drone, the two women sing in close harmony about concerns both mundane and mystical.” Last year, Wild Winter sold out entirely when it was released in a limited edition run and sold exclusively at the Rough Trade Record Store in the U.K as the December Album of the Month. Listen to the title track HERE. In mking the record the two drew the curtain in the very hot summer of 2014, Katherine Blamire and Jessica Davies of Smoke Fairies holed themselves up in the house that they share with the curtains drawn and started writing a collection of songs focusing on wintertime, Christmas, blizzards, isolation and presents. The process took the duo on a journey through Christmas past, present and future, sometimes touching on family tradition and the role religion plays in their yearly celebrations and even imagined themselves as the three kings. They then took their band into a recording studio in Kent, stayed in a local youth hostel and for a week before they set about recording most of the tracks live. With the help of producer Kristofer Harris they finished Wild Winter autumn had not even set in! When asked why they chose to focus on a seasonally-themed record, the band explained, “We have a love/hate relationship with winter and the Christmas holiday. When it was suggested Smoke Fairies make a Christmas album the last thing we wanted to do was make a classic, jolly, celebratory album that can only be played once a year. Sometimes winter provides us with a sense of togetherness and love and sometimes it leaves us feeling alienated, cold and playing a glockenspiel alone in a darkened room. It’s part of the year that will always be bittersweet and wild. This was the inspiration behind the record.” The duo said for the song “Bad Good” they “cast our minds back to out childhood selves in the ‘80s” and went on to say “that we nearly drove ourselves to the brink of insanity” trying to bring order to a cover of Captain Beefheart’s “Steal Softly Thru Snow.” Six years ago since entering a recording studio for the first time Smoke Fairies have self-released several singles and were first introduced to American audiences with their 7” Gastown/River Song via Third Man Records, which Jack White produced and play’s drums on. The band has toured the world with the likes of Brian Ferry, Richard Hawley and Laura Marling. Time Out New York noted they were one of the “Top 5 Must See Bands” at the 2010 CMJ Festival while their 2011 album Through Low Light and Trees was named one of American Songwriter’s Top 50 albums of 2011. Wild Winter follows the bands’ 2012 release Blood Speaks of which Pitchfork said that Blamire and Davies “don’t trade vocal duties so much as appear to sing from the same body, their voices nearly indistinguishable, shifting between smoky moans and toe-curling trills,” their eponymously titled album was released in 2014 of which For Folks Sake said “Smoke Fairies are attempting to creatively push themselves into and beyond the ether.”

JAMES SUPERCAVE ANNOUNCE DEBUT ALBUM DETAILS, SHARE 'MAKING OF' TEASER; TOUR WITH THE BRIGHT LIGHT SOCIAL HOUR

JAMES SUPERCAVE ANNOUNCE DEBUT ALBUM DETAILS, SHARE 'MAKING OF' TEASER; TOUR WITH THE BRIGHT LIGHT SOCIAL HOUR

"An excellent album on the way with  Better Strange ."-Derrick Rossignol, NERDIST

Today, James Supercave announce details for their much anticipated debut album Better Strange, out on LP/CD/Digital via Fairfax Recordings on February 12th 2016.  The band along with close friend and up-and-coming auteur James Kid (whom also directed the band's video for "The Right Thing") created a short film documenting the making of the album at the legendary Sound City Studios in Van Nuys, Ca. and teases a new song titled "Just Repeating What's Around Me". Watch HERE!
Last month, the band made waves combining Sophie Koko Gate's award winning animation video 'Half Wet' with their single of the same name, "Better Strange".  The video, which premiered via Nerdist, is basically "like 90s cartoons did the same drugs that our music is hooked on. Beautiful, bizarre, hilarious;" states the band.  Scope out the surreal music video HERE.  Nerdist states that based on this first glimpse that there "appears to be an excellent album on the way with Better Strange..." The track cuts the familiar slam and glam of psych-pop with the odd details that continually throw James Supercave into the uncanny valley of the pop genre: the lurching groove of the bass, the relentless loop of the synth, the shape-shifting timbre of the vocal. "You're so much better strange. You're so much better when you make mistakes with me," urges Supercave in a fit against normalcy. "Better Strange" dare the listener to commit to the mistakes they've always wanted to make.
Better Strange will be available on 2xLP limited edition white vinyl (limited to 500), 2xLP black vinyl, CD, and digitally on February 12th, 2016. You can pre-order the limited edition 2xLP white vinyl version via Origami Vinyl now HERE.
James Supercave will be hitting the road with The Bright Light Social Hour this January.  Please see below for complete tour dates.

Nada Surf announces new album and tour dates; shares new song

NADA SURF ANNOUNCES NEW RECORD, YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE,OUT MARCH 4, 2016 FIRST TRACK, "BELIEVE YOU'RE MINE," AVAILABLE TO HEAR NOW NORTH AMERICAN TOUR DATES ANNOUNCED
photo credit: Bernie Dechant (New York, NY) -- Nada Surf has announced the release of its new album, You Know Who You Are, out March 4, 2016. The band's eighth record and fifth for Barsuk, it was produced by long-time comrade Tom Beaujour at Nuthouse Recording n Hoboken, NJ. The album marks the band's first as an official quartet with the core unit - singer/ songwriter/guitarist Matthew Caws, bassist Daniel Lorca and drummer Ira Elliot - joined by Doug Gillard on second guitar. Album pre-orders begin today, December 2. The first song from the new collection, "Believe You're Mine," is available to hear now. Earlier today, "Believe You're Mine" was spun by KEXP's John In The Morning, KCRW's Morning Becomes Eclectic and  WXPN.   LISTEN TO "BELIEVE YOU'RE MINE"  ALBUM PRE-ORDER LINKS:BarsukAmazonGoogleiTunes Having recorded five albums in 10 years and toured extensively in support of all of them, Nada Surf opted to follow 2012's cracking The Stars Are Indifferent To Astronomy with a brief but well-earned hiatus. So in January 2015, when Caws informed Nada Surf's vociferous Facebook following that a new record was just about done, the news was greeted with explosive enthusiasm. The music was in the can, he announced, and all that remained was to finish up a few lyrics and sing a few vocals; something he planned to do on off-days off during an upcoming solo acoustic tour. Caws even included a photo of the recording set-up he was bringing in the car.

"I was so eager to have an album done that I believed in it as it was," Caws recalls. "But the great thing about being 'finished' is that you can take a breath and evaluate, because the pressure to 'do it' is gone. The more I listened and thought about it, the more I realized that I might want to keep working. Also, I'd sent the tracks to my friend Josh, who runs Barsuk Records, the label we've been on since 2002, and he said 'It's great,' but followed that with a pregnant pause. I got the message. I didn't take that as a critique as much as a belief that I could do better. It was very freeing," Caws continues. "There were already a bunch of songs in the can that we all liked, so I could think more expansively about what the album could be."

Caws' instinct to heed his inner editorial voice proved to be spot on: he dropped a few songs, tweaked others, and wrote a few more that, "definitely feel different from what we've done before," he says. "Believe You're Mine" was rejiggered and sped up, while "Cold To See Clear" - originally penned for a collaboration to be named later with Michael Lerner of Telekinesis - was deemed a better fit for Nada Surf. Just before starting You Know Who You Are, Caws had gone to Los Angeles to write with Dan Wilson, who in addition to his success with Semisonic, has won two Grammy Awards for his songs with Adele and the Dixie Chicks. They weren't writing for anyone in particular, they just wanted to see what would happen. Caws felt so good about "Rushing" and "Victory's Yours," that he asked Wilson if he could include them on the new Nada Surf album. Wilson gave the green light, and even offered to contribute backing vocals. When the band returned to Hoboken, NJ for another round of sessions with producer/guitarist Tom Beaujour (Jennifer O'Connor, Amy Bezunartea), the songs were tracked.

And lo and behold, what would have been another really good Nada Surf album (their seventh since getting signed to a major in the go-go 90's and scoring a worldwide alterna-hit with "Popular") became what could well be the most representative collection of the group's two-decade career, all while pushing towards whatever comes next. While the band has always had a surplus of horsepower for velocity rockers and an astounding level of confidence live, they've been gaining the discipline and finesses to change gears, more so with each release. Captured in the album's 10 tracks is every beloved facet of the band, but You Know Who You Are also finds much on offer that stands apart from anything previously heard in the band's diverse catalogue. "Sometimes it feels like, to our audience at least, we are two or three different bands at once," Caws concludes. "It seems some people are looking to feel better, for encouragement getting over their obstacles, for help figuring life out... not that I've done that myself, other people are looking for love songs, and then some others just want to rock." Nada Surf has confirmed the first leg of a North American tour that begins in Chicago, IL, on May 12, 2016 and ends in Boston, MA, on June 4.   Australian/Iranian Industrial-Pop duo VOWWS met while studying music in Sydney, Australia. They played in multiple experimental rock bands in Sydney together before moving to NYC in 2011 and creating VOWWS. Gradually their tension, conflict and chemistry began to define their world, and their sound. The result is as bipolar as it is harmonized, with drama and extremity facing off against diligence and measured observation. Friend, producer (and sometimes mediator) Kevin McMahon helped capture this dichotomy on tape, disguising a collection of dense pop songs with layers of distortion; grinding and swaying and pushing all the while. In late 2014 VOWWS moved to LA.

Shortly after arriving in LA, Matt toured nationally supporting Foster the People - as lead guitarist for French artist Soko. After returning from tour, VOWWS signed with Cleopatra Records, and were able to finalize recording their debut album as VOWWS - it is entitled 'The Great Sun' and features appearances by Gary Numan, and Thor Harris (SWANS). Featured remixes of tracks from the record include Jimmy Urine (Mindless Self Indulgence) and Brooklyn noise artist Dreamcrusher.

VOWWS' intensely focussed live shows have earned them spots on bills with Ariel Pink, Prayers, Run the Jewels, Black Lips, Tamaryn, Pop 1280 and more so far this year. The duo are also featured in the Fall 2015 L.A. Substance fashion campaign..

M. Ward Announces New Album + Shares New Single "Girl From Conejo Valley"

M. WARD ANNOUNCES EIGHTH SOLO ALBUM MORE RAIN
TO BE RELEASED MARCH 4, 2016 VIA MERGE RECORDS

LISTEN TO "GIRL FROM CONEJO VALLEY" - PRESS HERE TO STREAM M. Ward returns with his eighth solo album, More Rain, which will be released on March 4, 2016 via Merge Records. PRESS HERE to stream Ward's new single "Girl From Conejo Valley," which is a nostalgic trot through people he used to know and a place he used to be.  Having spent the last decade-and-a-half based in the perennially damp Portland, Oregon, the singer-songwriter and producer has learned how to shine through the soggy gloom by simply embracing its inevitability. With his new album More Rain, Ward has made a true gotta-stay-indoors, rainy-season record that looks upwards through the weather while reflecting on his past. "I think one of the biggest mysteries of America right now is this: How are we able to process unending bad news on Page One and then go about our lives the way the Style section portrays us?" says Ward. "There must be a place in our brains that allows us to take a bird's-eye view of humanity, and I think music is good at helping people-myself included-go to that place." This album finds Ward picking up the tempo and volume a bit from his previous release, 2012's A Wasteland Companion. Where that record introspectively looked in from the outside, More Rain finds Ward on the inside, gazing out. Begun four years ago and imagined initially as a DIY doo-wop album that would feature Ward experimenting with layering his own voice, it soon branched out in different directions, a move that he credits largely to his collaborators here who include R.E.M.'s Peter BuckNeko Casek.d. langThe Secret Sisters, and Joey Spampinato of NRBQ. The result is a collection of upbeat, sonically ambitious yet canonically familiar songs that both propel Ward's reach and satisfy longtime fans.  Ward has released a string of acclaimed solo albums over the past several years, along with five LPs with Zooey Deschanel as She & Him and a 2009 collaborative album with My Morning Jacket's Jim James and Bright Eyes' Conor Oberst and Mike Mogis under the moniker Monsters of Folk. In addition to his celebrated work as a musician, Ward is an accomplished producer, handling those duties for such luminaries as Mavis Staples, Jenny Lewis, and Carlos Forster as well as his own musical projects. MORE RAIN More RainPirate DialTime Won't WaitConfessionI'm Listening (Child's Theme)Girl from Conejo ValleySlow Driving ManYou're So Good To MeTemptationPhenomenonLittle BabyI'm Going HigherPre-order More Rain on CD or LP in the Merge store. The forthcoming album will be made available everywhere in all formats - digital, physical, and vinyl. "It's All in Vain" has quickly garnered steam, reaching #1 on Hype Machine and clocking in at #11 on the Spotify Viral 50 chart. Immediate media praise for the song included EW's Music We Loved This WeekSPIN's Singles MixFADER's 10 Songs You Need In Your Life This Week and PopCrush's Best Songs We Heard This Week.
The band's previous single, "Deadwater," was met with a rousing response, already included onNPR's prestigious Favorite Songs Of 2015 List. Hailed for 'minimalist, smooth-sailing choruses that can't possibly be coming from a trio this young in their career,' by Spin Magazine, their capacity for creating boundless emotional pop has been well documented by the NY TimesNPRFader, andStereogum amongst many others. Wet is comprised of the enigmatic Kelly Zutrau and multi-instrumentalists Joe Valle and Marty Sulkow.
Wet met through mutual friends as college students in New York City in 2007. After a few years of informal collaboration (Zutrau came to New York to study painting), they didn't declare their official musical intentions until the summer of 2012. After releasing a few songs on SoundCloud, including the acclaimed "Don't Wanna Be Your Girl," the band began attracting a diverse and loyal following.  Their critically hailed debut EP Wet garnered industry-wide attention and paved the path for their forthcoming major label release, Don't You, to be made available everywhere on January 29, 2016.Wet Headline Tour:
