"continually exhilarating" - NPR "Space Is Still the Place exemplifies their ability to remain cohesive while moving between various genres and styles. This trait, displayed on the album from start to finish, is sure to shoot The Bright Light Social Hour to the top of festival lineups and add to their already infectious and irresistible live show." - Relix "No matter how much research you put into figuring out who will be the hottest new artists of each year, another act comes into your vision with an output that absolutely blows you away. Today, that band is Austin, Texas' The Bright Light Social Hour" - The Huffington Post
On Friday November 13, Austin rock band The Bright Light Social Hour played to a packed house at the famed Lincoln Hall in Chicago. The energetic performance was recorded and has been released via Bandcamp as a 13-track collection named Live at Lincoln Hall . All proceeds from the album will benefit the French Red Cross. PRESS HERE to download the album. "Shortly before taking the stage at Lincoln Hall Chicago on Friday November 13th, we were shaken by the heart-wrenching news of the attacks in Paris," said Jack O'Brien. "Knowing one of these attacks took place at a concert, a place of love, magic and healing, was particularly devastating to us. We recorded our performance that night, and would like to share it with you in hopes of offering love and healing to those affected by the tragedy. We ask that you enjoy this live album, which is available for download in exchange for a donation in the amount of your choice to the French Red Cross." The band spent the bulk of 2015 traversing across North America in their trusty van, Vaniel Day Lewis, to bring their electrifying live set to 95 packed venues. After 31,343 miles (that's 460 hours) on the road, they brought the year to a strong finish with two SOLD OUT hometown shows. On their latest visit to Philadelphia, the guys stopped by NPR's World Café to play a few songs and expand on the idea of a Future South, which they explored on their 2015 sophomore album Space is Still The Place (Frenchkiss). While on the road, the band stays with friends and fans in each city instead of hotels, and has seen a universal trend of young people who are creative, intelligent, positive and ambitious but still struggling to make ends meet. These stories and experiences were brought together to form the themes on the album, and ultimately the idea of space exists as a metaphor as a place to start fresh and forge ahead to the future. In this Future South, the band lyrically and musically draws inspirations from the traditional Southern roots - whether it is political ideology, culture, blues, rock and jazz, to blend it with progressive ideas and a future musical stylings with heavy synths and electronic influences. Ultimately, the album exists as a way to articulate this alternative idea of a South that is bursting with vibrancy, diversity and opportunity - releasing from the stratifications of the region being a backwards place. Over the last year, the idea has been developed further and documented on their Tumblr page - PRESS HERE to see stories from the individuals they have met on the road. The Bright Light Social Hour have added a string of new dates to their North American tour, including stops in Nashville, Telluride, Cincinnati and more - see full routing below and PRESS HERE for more information. John Grant Shares "Down Here" Video with The Guardian
JOHN GRANT SHARES NEW VIDEO FOR "DOWN HERE" WITH THE GUARDIAN
MAJOR CRITICAL PRAISE FOR GREY TICKLES, BLACK PRESSUREOUT NOW ON PARTISAN RECORDS (US) / BELLA UNION (EU)
WATCH: "Down Here" on YouTube or The Guardian
LISTEN: John Grant & Neko Case on All Songs +1
WATCH: "Disappointing" on YouTube
John Grant has shared the video for "Down Here" with The Guardian today. The poignant clip mirrors the message of the song. Grant's lyrics say, "Do you really think nobody sees the fear behind your smile / and why do you care what anybody thinks at all / it's all going to the same thing in the end. And what we've got down here is oceans of longing..." And the visual narrative follows a young boy who dreams of joining a synchronized swim team.
worked with Anthony Minghella, Sam Taylor-Wood, and Goldfrapp. Gunning said:
"I'd been wanting to make a video for John for a long time so when he sent me 'Down Here' it set off a number of things in my mind. I really listened to the track in minute detail, with all its twists and turns and out popped the [final] idea. The humour and and the warm emotional twist of it just seemed to click with the the tone of the music somehow. John was incredibly trusting respectful and just let me get on with it.
[Lead actor] Fraser [Buchanan] really stood out, something about his gentleness and his complete commitment to the idea. He's with the Ballet Rambert so he's physically strong and great at remembering the synchro moves. On retrospect I don't think we would have been able to make the video work without his experience as a dancer. Although it was never scripted, all the beautiful movement he did in the bedroom ended up being my favourite thing about the video."
John Grant's latest album, Grey Tickles, Black Pressure has won fans across the globe, entering the UK album charts at number 5 upon release and selling out London's Hammersmith Apollo as well as a full headline US tour with raves from NPR's Bob Boilen, Time Magazine, and the Denver Post, among others.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA (December 8, 2015) – Noise Pop Festival, the Bay Area’s premiere indie music and arts festival, announces new music performers joining this year’s growing, eclectic music lineup. The 24th annual event is set to take place at a variety of venues throughout the San Francisco Bay area over ten days beginning on Friday, February 19 running through Sunday, February 28. The Festival will also welcome California’s own Gardens & Villa, who will be performing in support of their recent Music For Dogs album; Austin-based shoegaze masters Ringo Deathstarr; Kneedelus, a new collaborative project between jazz-funk quartet Kneebody and acclaimed electronic producer Daedelus who recently released their self-titled debut album; and Hamilton Leithauser and Paul Maroon of The Walkman. “It’s amazing to present long-time favorites like The Mountain Goats and the reunited Drive Like Jehu alongside diverse and groundbreaking new artists like Kamasi Washington, Vince Staples and Parquet Courts. Having Carly Rae Jepsen join the lineup demonstrates what an interesting time it is in music, where major pop stars increasingly collaborate with underground producers like Dev Hynes and Rostam from Vampire Weekend to chart new territory. Much like the music scene at large and San Francisco culture, we’re all over the map,” says Noise Pop Founder Kevin Arnold. “I’m excited to see how things will flesh out as we add even more artists.”
All confirmed Noise Pop Festival 2016 artists are listed below, along with national and local acts previously announced, such as The Mountain Goats (two shows at the Noise Pop Festival HQ, the Swedish American Hall), Vince Staples, Parquet Courts, The Cave Singers, Cayucas, Escort, The Thermals, Kamasi Washington, Astronauts, Etc., Heartwatch, and more. The full 2016 music lineup, available at http://schedule.noisepop.com/, will include additional announcements in the weeks ahead and will feature some of today’s top indie and alternative artists, as well as a wide variety of up-and-coming acts from across the country.

In its review of the band's recent Leeds show, The Guardian raved that "everything that is wonderful about pop music seems to occupy the triumphant final half hour, as a sea of blondes, brunettes and husbands come together to bellow 'Planet Earth,' 'Girls on Film,' 'Rio,' and the rest. Every arm is raised skyward in a giant communal bonding, an audiovisual illustration of Le Bon's insistence that 'music is a healing force.'" Paper Gods was released worldwide on September 11th and bowed at No. 10 on Billboard's Top 200 Album chart, earning Duran Duran its highest-charting album in 22 years. The Cave Singers have also announced another leg of tour dates for April, kicking off in Tucson, AZ on April 3 and concluding in Boise, ID on April 16. Full tour schedule available below. Tickets go on sale Friday at 10:00 AM local time. Banshee brings The Cave Singers back to their original 3 piece of vocalist / songwriter Pete Quirk, guitarist Derek Fudesco and drummer Marty Lunda. The album was recorded live in July of 2015 over 6 days with producer Randall Dunn who also produced 2011's No Witch. The record is warmly anchored in the members' creative familiarity with one another. Yet there is a new thirst toBanshee, one that can be attributed to the combination of the band taking a year off to work on other projects, Pete Quirk's solo album and the Kodiak Deathbeds debut record, and their return to songwriting from distanced correspondence. While their first few albums were released through Matador Records and JagJaguar, Cave Singers took to IndieGoGo and successfully crowdfunded their new record stating, "After four records, on two different record labels, we want to try something totally different and new. We are forgoing the traditional record label, distribution, marketing of our past and along with your support, we are going to record, release, and most importantly, own our music for the very first time."
