SANTIGOLD
Launches Season 2 of Noble Champions
Produced by Talkhouse
Distributed by Talkhouse Network
Season 2 Features: Shailene Woodley, Flea, Seun Kuti,
Vince Staples, Wyatt Cenac, Rep. Maxwell Frost,
Adesuwa Aighewi, Syd, Terence Nance, Kiese Laymon and more

Today, October 30th, marks the launch of the second season of Santigold’s podcast Noble Champions, a modern day salon, created and hosted by her and distributed by Talkhouse. In each bi-weekly episode, she sits down with some of today’s leading artists, authors, activists, and progressive thinkers who stand up, stick up and speak up for important causes. Inspired by the artist Kandinsky, when he said that periods during which art has no noble champions are ones of retrogression, these candid no-holds-barred roundtable conversations where ideas and experiences are exchanged, are where Santi and her fellow champions try to make some sense out of our world, to push culture forward. Boundary-expanding and defiantly vulnerable, Noble Champions is a public invitation to an intimate gathering of the minds. The second season features: Shailene Woodley, Flea, Seun Kuti, Vince Staples, Wyatt Cenac, Rep. Maxwell Frost, Adesuwa Aighewi, Syd, Terence Nance, Kiese Laymon and more. Listen here.
Episode 1 with John Jennings and Terence Nance is a discussion about afrofuturism and how, at a time when the world is in such a precarious place, art that envisions a better future is crucial. To tackle this subject, Santi sits down with best-selling writer, illustrator and academic John Jennings and artist, filmmaker and musician Terence Nance (creator of HBO’s Random Acts of Flyness), as they discuss rituals, the tools of imagining, deindustrializing oneself, time as a nonlinear construct, and much more.
The forthcoming episode 2 with Shailene Woodley and Odille Zexter-Kaiser looks at how we can disconnect from technology as a way of connecting more with our inner selves and others. Joining her in this discussion are Shailene Woodley, an actor and activist who is an ardent advocate for living a tech-free lifestyle, and Odille Zexter-Kaiser, a former member of the Luddite Club, a group of New York City high school students who intentionally limited their use of technology in order to live in a more grounded, tangible reality..
The complete first season of Noble Champions is available on all platforms and features guests: Tunde Adebimpe, Yasiin Bey (fka Mos Def), Sanford Biggers, Bun B, Idris Elba, Mary Anais Heglar, Dan Kovalik, Resmaa Menakem, Questlove, Rebecca Walker, Olivia Wilde, Saul Williams, and Angela Yee.

Frank Black Announces Limited Edition 'Teenager of the Year' 30th Anniversary Tour Edition On Double Gold Vinyl
2025 Tour Dates On Sale Now + December Acoustic Solo Shows
LP Due Out January 17th via 4AD

To celebrate Frank Black’s landmark solo album, Teenager Of The Year turning 30, 4AD release a one-time vinyl pressing on 17th January, to accompany a tour of North America plus Paris and London, where Frank Black and the original band will be performing the album in its entirety.
This special vinyl tour edition of Teenager Of The Year, has been remastered for the first time from its original analogue studio tapes. Sounding as essential as the day it was released, the limited 30th Anniversary Tour Edition is cut at 45 rpm for optimum playback and is being pressed on double gold vinyl. The album also comes in a gatefold sleeve with liner notes by both Frank Black and producer Eric Drew Feldman. A 24-bit digital version is being released on the same day.
Originally recorded amid a rich songwriting vein, just as the Pixies had been placed on hold, Frank Black’s ambitious double album Teenager Of The Year came out in May 1994, just one year after his fantastic self-titled solo debut. Recorded with scene legend Eric Drew Feldman (Captain Beefheart’s Magic Band, Pere Ubu, The Residents), Teenager Of The Year, is now widely regarded as the defining statement of his solo career and the best album the Pixies never made.
“Sometime in the early 80s, I'd have to look up the date, I matriculated high school. This school held an awards banquet for some of the departing students at the school. I received an award called the TEENAGER OF THE YEAR award; my brother received the same award the following year. Our award was a 50 dollar credit for textbooks, a TEENAGER OF THE YEAR medallion (my mother still has this), and also the banquet hall dinner, soup to nuts. My brother and I had no complaint about the award (it was given for being all-around-good-guy as best as we could determine). But for such a grand title to be given as TEENAGER OF THE YEAR, I felt the glory had not been amplified enough.
In 1993, I was doing “solo recording” sessions with Eric Drew Feldman in Los Angeles. We had settled on a core band with Nick Vincent and Lyle Workman, occasionally augmented by Joey Santiago and Moris Tepper. Though we had to change studios numerous times for actual forest fires and earthquakes, the whole process was such an addictive musical buffet that Eric and I couldn't stop. We did some vocals at a studio rumored to be owned by Sergio Mendes; in the control room was a wall of television screens broadcasting the brush fire which crept toward us. We eventually evacuated to someplace else. We never met Sergio but we saw him perform a few weeks later when we vacated to Las Vegas after the Northridge earthquake, which had trapped the TEENAGER OF THE YEAR tapes in a studio vault for some time. Our zeal plus empathy from our financiers, they safely observing our travails from London, was enough to keep the money flowing until Eric and I relented and declared “Consummatum est”.
We tried to make it grand. 22 in 62. I called it TEENAGER OF THE YEAR. It is 30 years old now, and the original band will perform the record at various venues in early 2025. 4AD has remastered the LP for a fresh printing. Enjoy.” Black Francis 2024 Meredith, New Hampshire.
Pitchfork placed Teenager Of The Year in their Top 100 albums of the 90’s saying “beneath its veneer lie the moments brilliant enough to rival any of the Pixies’ 1990’s work, and Black’s greatest lyrical achievement.” The album is also included in the book “ 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die”, while The Quietus in 2014 said “Teenager Of The Year feels like a lost Pixies album in the way Ram feels like a lost Beatles album. It’s colossal, it teems with innovation.”

“Initially it was a 14-song album. It was mixed. Eric Idle was staying nearby. He kept telling me to change the songs around. Al (Clay)had to run off and go to his next project. We weren’t completely happy with what we had. The solution: record more songs. Eight more were born. Whole shebang was remixed by David Bianco. The day before we were to start the remix, the 1994 Northridge earthquake occurred. Charles, Jean (Charles’ first wife) and I escaped to Las Vegas, ate many shrimp cocktails, and we saw Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, and Sergio Mendes and Brazil ’99 perform. Sergio was especially good. After about five days we returned to the mixing studio and the deed was done.” Eric Drew Feldman.*

“Soliloquy meets psychedelia as the SF semi-goths ‘timely rip’ us a new album, Distal, genre-blended and aged like a fine Zinfandel. Solid gold via Solid Brass.” — Echoes & Dust

In 2007, the band released an LP & CD called Bodies Need Rest, which compiled rare and unreleased tracks via Conspiracy Records. in 2023, 20 years after the band’s last proper album Alter was released on Sub Pop — with the catalog number Sub Pop #666, no less — Pleasure Forever released a new mini-album titled Distal via Solid Brass Records.
Pleasure Forever remains as hard to characterize as they’ve always been. Moments of heavy hitting rock tendencies tie together their continuing exploration of spooky 60s psychedelia and their peculiarly warped feel of classic rock from an alternate universe, dashed with hypnotic and minimal rhythms reminiscent of heady Krautrock. Distal will appeal to fans of Roxy Music, The Doors, The VSS, CAN, Amon Düül II, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds…
Pleasure Forever is vocalist/keyboardist Andrew Rothbard, drummer Dave Clifford and guitarist Joshua Hughes. The band is not currently active or playing any live shows.
In the two decades between proper albums, Rothbard has released multiple solo albums under his full name Andrew Douglas Rothbard, Clifford played drums in instrumental post-metal band Red Sparowes, as well as Emma Ruth Rundle vehicle Marriages, Jail Weddings and more, Hughes sang and played guitar in Relapse Records sludge metal trio Rabbits and currently in Ssold. The three members formerly played together in synth-punk pioneers The VSS in the mid-90s.
The Devil's Pleasures will be available for download and streaming on December 20, 2024, Bodies Need Rest will be available for download and streaming on November 8th, 2024 via Permanent Teeth Records. Pre-orders are available HERE.

- Clash - Track of the DayToday, New York’s dark pop artist, Stella Rose, shares the announcement of a brand new EP, Hollybaby . The EP is a thrilling follow up to last year's acclaimed debut LP, Eyes Of Glass , via KRO Records.
To celebrate the announcement of new music, Stella Rose is sharing the haunting first single from the EP, "MS.45." Produced by her longtime collaborator, Yves Rothman, the tune brings to life the chilling poetry of Stella Rose, creating the perfect sonic landscape for lyrics "Call me Ms. 45. This gun that you're holding triggers my love."
Speaking of the new single, Stella Rose says: “Between four walls, buzzing. The vocals barely treading water in their verses, before a live wire. Words strung like poetry. Scenes from ‘Taxi Driver’ blaring off my computer screen. New York was present in this Los Angeles daze.”
Hollybaby was recorded alongside producer Yves Rothman (Yves Tumor, Blondshell, Eartheater, The Horrors) and is released via KRO Records, Hollybaby invites listeners into deeper realms of Stella Rose’s moody, poetic aura, brimming with gritty soundscapes and introspective lyrics.
The writing process saw Stella Rose differ from familiarity. Not only did she shift from her native New York to Los Angeles to complete her home recorded demos, she also adopted a more urgent style of writing, embracing time constraints and challenging herself to give her original ideas a “second life”.
Each day reached 100+ degrees as Hollybaby came together during the hottest week of the summer in LA. Both Stella Rose and her producer Yves fed off that uncomfortable heat in the studio, culminating in her loudest, rawest and arguably most entrancing material to date.
2024 has been a year of growth and transformation for Stella Rose, seeing her grow into an international fashion muse for houses like Ann D, Celine and EDR. She is receiving the full embrace of the booming underground scene in New York City, having recently performed at the very first show at the buzzy Hancock, frequented by Pretty Sick and The Dare. Having recently wrapped up a successful run of UK/EU tour dates with A Place To Bury Strangers, Stella Rose embarks on her latest chapter with the wind firmly in her sails."MS.45" is out now on all DSPs. Hollybaby is due for release on December 13th via KRO Records.

Cold Specks Shares New Track "Wandering in the Wild" || Out Now On Mute
COLD SPECKS SHARES NEW TRACK “WANDERING IN THE WILD”

Today Canadian singer, songwriter and producer Cold Specks (aka Al Spx) has released a new track, “Wandering in the Wild”, co-written with Chantal Kreviazuk (Drake / Kendrick Lamar).
The stripped-back beauty of “Wandering in the Wild” is inspired by Spx’s months in a psychiatric ward (“If we survive, can we smile and be not sorry anymore / If they decide we’re free, to run and scream / Will we jump for joy?”) and how she survived an incredibly difficult time preceding her bipolar diagnosis.
Listen to “Wandering in the Wild” HERE.
“Wandering in the Wild”, which follows “How It Feels”, the artist’s first music in seven years, was primarily written by Kreviazuk, following a long discussion with Al Spx about her experiences in the ward. Spx goes on to explain, “I used to be really precious about holding on to as much song writing as possible but then I remembered James Carr did not write ‘The Dark End of the Street’. Thank you, Chantal, for such a timeless piece of music.”
The spellbinding ballad has an illuminating grace and sense of freedom as the artist looks back on that time. Al Spx produced and performed the track, recorded by Graham Walsh (of Holy Fuck), and it features piano by Johnny Spence, strings by composer Owen Pallett and brass by long-time collaborator Terry Edwards.
Since she arrived in our lives with an unforgettable a capella performance on Later… with Jools Holland in 2011, Cold Specks has mixed crackling, pared-down guitar blues, gothic soul, gospel and warm electronics in three albums which won Polaris and Juno Prize nominations, 2012’s I Predict A Graceful Expulsion, 2014’s Neuroplasticity and 2017’s Fool’s Paradise. Her musical stretch is vast having worked with Swans, Massive Attack, Moby and performing at Joni Mitchell’s birthday concert.

BONNIE TRASH share video for doomy cover of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds' "Red Right Hand". 'My Love Remains the Same' EP out now.
- A doomy, atmospheric cover of the Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds classic
- EP 'My Love Remains the Same' out now on Hand Drawn Dracula

Today Bonnie Trash share the video for their doomy, atmospheric cover of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds' classic track "Red Right Hand", paying homage to John Carpenter with the accompanying visuals. The track is taken from their new EP, ‘My Love Remains the Same’ – out now on Hand Drawn Dracula.
Bonnie Trash is the darkened shoegaze/post-punk drone project led by twin sisters Emmalia and Sarafina Bortolon-Vettor. If your high-school MP3 player featured tracks from Black Sabbath, PJ Harvey, doom metal legends Pentagram, or even shoegazey soft-rockers Slowdive, you’ll enjoy their unique flavour of rock. The recent addition of longtime friends Emma Howarth-Withers (bass) and Dana Bellamy (drums) gives the group a new lavish and layered sound, with this expanded lineup featured on the forthcoming EP.
‘My Love Remains the Same’ EP explores the impossibly heavy subject of love and loss and was announced with the ethereal single “Kisses Goodbye.” Today, however, they share the EP's cacophonous closing track, "Red Right Hand". Taking on Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds' most loved track is an ambitious move, but the Ontario band show they're up to it with this contrasting and powerful take. Chugging guitars and echoing squalls of feedback accentuate the original song's foreboding mood, while Sarafina's evocative vocal delivery weaves an air of perilous suspense.
Speaking on the track and accompanying video, Emmalia and Sarafina comment: "A minimalist doom take on Red Right Hand, This rendition is an homage to John Carpenter–invoking a monster that inflicts its dark and divine, desirable vengeance on the listener. Anger and resentment is readily accessible when feeling the loss of love. This is our demon."

Hailing from Guelph, Ontario, Bonnie Trash began as a two-piece act, with twin sisters Emmalia Bortolon-Vettor on guitar and lyricist Sarafina Bortolon-Vettor on vocals and drums. The twins are the primary composers and songwriters.
Together, they create soundtracks to the horror stories they want to tell, drawing inspiration from social commentary, the supernatural, and ancestral folklore. On their self-released 2017 EP 'Ezzelini’s Dead', the pair reimagined the myth of Ezzelino III da Romano, a 13th-century cannibalistic tyrant from their family’s hometown, San Zenone degli Ezzelini. Bonnie Trash used field recordings and interviews in Veneto dialect (spoken by their Nonna Maria and great-uncle, Cesare) to explore their Italian heritage, preserving history through music.
Their 2022 debut album 'Malocchio' and 2023’s EP, 'Hail, Hale!' confront the real-life horror stories told to them by their Italian grandmother. Over heavy, hypnotic riffs, pounding drums, and spooky soundscapes, the lyrics pull the listener into the meaning of the “evil eye,” a hex of malice onto another.
Both records were released via Canadian indie label Hand Drawn Dracula, the home of Bonnie Trash’s fall 2024 EP, ‘My Love Remains the Same’.

New LP Never, Neverland out now on Century Media

Portland, Oregon's Unto Others released their triumphant new LP Never, Neverland last month and now, the band announce a North American tour in support of the album. This November and December, Unto Others will traverse the U.S. and Canada featuring stops in Spokane, Vancouver, Calgary, Louisville, Montreal, Los Angeles and more, with additional dates to be announced very soon. Tickets go on sale on November 1 at 10am local time and can be purchased at UntoOthers.net.
Unto Others' Gabriel Franco comments, "As many of you already know, 5 weeks ago our previously planned North American tour fell through. With very little time our excellent team has managed to keep us on the road. We are making a point on this run to hit cities we do not travel to very often, or have never played at all. There are still a few TBA's right now, but we will keep you updated as we finish up the booking process. This will be our first headlining tour of the USA in 3 years, so expect a long set that covers our entire catalog, in small sweaty venues. If you don't see your town here, we have plans to hit as many major U.S. cities as we can in 2025. Until then, thanks for your support."
Additionally, Unto Others have shared a music video for their Never, Neverland Digital Deluxe Bonus Cover "Pet Sematary" which you can check out below.
Watch / share official "Pet Sematary" music video

Never, Neverland marks a new epoch for Unto Others (rounded out by guitarist Sebastian Silva, bassist Brandon Hill and drummer Colin Vranizan). Having emerged in 2017, the band turned heads with the Don't Waste Your Time EP, followed by the beloved 2019 full length Mana and 2021's heavy hitting Strength LP. Now, Unto Others build upon the seductive and beguiling foundation they've hewn out of a bedrock of goth, classic rock, punk, black metal and heavy metal. Simply put: this is the record where Unto Others prove themselves far more than just a one-trick, blackened steed, but instead, a band on the verge of something wickedly terrible and utterly timeless.
See Unto Others on the road to close out 2024; more dates to be announced soon.

Twentyyears ago, Brooklyn-based band TV On The Radio released theircritically acclaimed debut album, Desperate Youth, BloodthirstyBabes. In celebration, the band’s original label, Touch and GoRecords, will on November 15th release an anniversary edition of theproject with five bonus tracks, two of which are previouslyunreleased tracks. The first, “Final Fantasy,” is out now and isan early demo of what became the song “Bomb Yourself.”
Listento “Final Fantasy” HERE.See the full tracklisting below, and click HEREto pre-order.
Originallyreleased on March 9, 2004, Desperate Youth, Bloodthirsty Babeswas hailed as “an immaculate album about disappointment in allits forms: romantic, civic, psychological” by Rolling Stoneand was included in the book 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before YouDie. It features the single “Staring at the Sun” plus awealth of other memorable tracks, including “Dreams” and “Poppy.”
DesperateYouth, Bloodthirsty Babes, is an album full of rich, bruisingideas about life, love and loss. Lyrically but especially sonically,Desperate Youth, captured the dystopian hum of post-9/11America (a war in Iraq, a proto-right-wing political regime, asurveillance state threatening personal agency at home), putting avoice to the general unease young people felt at the time. Kyp sharedvocal duties with Tunde, creating a unique vocal fingerprint thatfurther distinguished them from their peers. Desperate Youthcaptured the attention of critics around the world, and won theprestigious (and now defunct) Shortlist Music Prize that year. Whatwas first seeded as an experimental enterprise had now, in just acouple of years, blossomed into something beautiful, powerful andwhole.
Lookingback at the band’s career, it is significant to note that TV On TheRadio willfully pushed against stereotypes - musically and otherwise- simply by existing. The notion of a mostly Black indie rock bandwas, at first, a novelty for critics. But their identity and how ittranslated to lived experience is exactly what drives them to makethe music they do; and over time, what has become more clear, is howthey have carried forward the legacy of influential groups like BadBrains, Death and Funkadelic before them. Similarly, it cannot beunderstated just how much of an impact TV On The Radio have made onfuture generations of Black indie artists pursuing their own path.

“I give something extra every time I do Montreux Jazz. In ’23 it was deep cuts like ‘Mass Production,’ ‘Endless Sea,’ ‘Five Foot One’ and a hell of a lot of sweat.”
- Iggy Pop
Fans can hear a taste of the album via the first single, “Five Foot One (Live at Montreux Jazz Festival 2023),” which is released today. Listen/share the track here and watch the video here:

There has never been an artist on stage quite like Iggy Pop and here he has never been better. With a band as versatile and acrobatic as the artist himself, there is everything from the glorious primitivism of Stooges-era “I Wanna Be Your Dog” and “T.V. Eye,” the swagger of “Lust for Life,” the precise metronomic drone of “Nightclubbing, “and the full-on unleashed rock fury of the recent “Modern Day Ripoff” and “Frenzy.”
