Pixies Announce Four California Warm Up Dates
PIXIES ANNOUNCE FOUR CALIFORNIA WARM UP DATES
TO PRECEDE FALL UK/EURO TOUR

LOS ANGELES, CA -- MONDAY, October 10, 2016 -- On Tuesday, October 25, Pixies will kick off their 2016-2017 global tour with a quick run through California playing a handful of warm up club dates in Santa Cruz, Sacramento, San Luis Obispo and Ventura. Tickets go on sale to the Pixies Fan Club members today at 7:00AM PT; fan club members will receive an email with the password and then can log onto pixiesmusic.com to place their order. The general onsale will begin Friday, 10/14 at 10:00AM PT, with tickets also available via pixiesmusic.com .
These California shows, as well as the subsequent three-week tour of the UK and Europe, are in support of Pixies' just-released album Head Carrier (September 30/Pixiesmusic/Play It Again Sam) and the album's new single "Classic Masher," #1 at AAA Radio and on the playlists of notable radio stations in Los Angeles, Boston, Dallas, Minneapolis, Baltimore, and Pittsburgh among others. Of the track, NPR's Jason Heller wrote "'Classic Masher'...with its sharp hooks and big riffs, instantly launches itself into the Pixies' pop-anthem canon..."
"We haven't been on the road for about a year and a half, so doing these warm up dates will be a lot of fun," said Pixies' Black Francis. "We're all very proud of the new album and are looking forward to playing some of the new songs live. We had a great time making 'Head Carrier' and are really happy about a lot of the feedback it's gotten. Having Paz in the band has been great, she's brought a whole new energy and made things fun again, and we're excited about continuing to make more new music."
Production for these warm-up dates will be bare-bones and stripped-down with focus on the rousing and raw, old-school urgency of the Pixies music. As typical of the Pixies, sets will likely change somewhat from night to night, and the band - Black Francis (guitar, vocals), Joey Santiago (guitars), David Lovering (drums), and newest member, bassist Paz Lenchantin - plan to perform a mix of the classics and tracks from the band's recent releases.

Who even cares if there's a scamp hidden in the brush out there, willing to hack their song and call it back for re-grooving...let it all come back to life!

Berlin DJ Paul Kalkbrenner’s remix of Leonard Cohen’s new single “You Want It Darker” is available everywhere today. The electronic artist debuted his rendition of the Leonard Cohen track at Lollapalooza Berlin last month. Kalkbrenner gives Cohen’s hypnotic song of religious exploration a booming bass and an upbeat tempo. Listen HERE.
Leonard Cohen’s 14th studio album, YOU WANT IT DARKER arrives in stores on October 21 and is available for pre-order now. Listen to the title track HERE.***Paul Kalkbrenner is one of techno's most successful artists, and been active in the Berlin techno scene since the 90s. He has produced seven studio albums and his single “Sky and Sand” went Platinum with over 200,000 copies sold. It charted on the German singles chart for 121 weeks, breaking the German singles record. In 2014 he was asked to perform in front of the Brandenburg Gate for 500,000 people to mark the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, and this year he was the first techno artist to ever play the main stage of the famed Tomorrowland Festival. After signing with Columbia in 2015, Kalkbrenner released his album “7” in August 2015.

In a new feature entitled 'Other Views From The 6: Dilly Dally's New Remix EP Shines Light On Toronto's Thriving Punk Scene', Stereogum uses the fkkt remix EP as an entry point to discuss the state of Toronto's thriving punk scene and Dilly Dally's central role in it. Within the article, Stereogum also debuts "The Touch (Nailbiter remix)" video that was made by the band and offers a thought-provoking take on menstruation, a topic their album Sore tackles indirectly as well as sexuality, erasure as a woman and struggling through your early 20s. You know the curious, almost out-of-body feeling you sometimes get when you wake up in the middle of the night, where everything seems a bit fuzzy and you're not sure if maybe you're still dreaming? It's a state Greta Morgan perpetually revisited during the second half of 2015, when she was writing and recording the new Springtime Carnivore album, Midnight Room. "I was on a really jagged sleep schedule," says the Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter, describing the months during which she worked on the follow-up to her critically adored 2014 debut. "It was the first time I'd ever lived by myself, and there was this bizarre feeling at night of the house being so quiet and being so totally alone. And Midnight Room came out of that."
Earlier in the year, Morgan went through one of those break-ups that completely topples your world. Though it was as amicable as those things can be, the twenty-eight year-old musician felt shattered. She began working on songs for Midnight Room during those strange waking interludes last summer, finding an abundance of beautiful melodies in the melancholy ether. "A lot of lyrics on the record are collaged or don't necessarily make sense next to each other," she says. "But I guess my whole headspace was like that for a few months. I felt like I couldn't trust my memory completely -- like i was space cadeting through the weird space between sleeping and dreaming and waking and reality."
The melodies came easily, but the words were initially harder to find. So she tried a new approach for Midnight Room's lyrics, inspired by her own disjointed thinking during those months. When an intriguing phrase or evocative image occurred to her, she wrote it down on a piece of index card. Sitting with the dozens of scraps on the floor in front of her, Morgan would rearrange the fragments until she found a way to make sense of it all. "A lot of the themes are, like, 'How do you lovingly change a relationship?,'" she says. "How do you say good-bye to someone in a certain way and still keep him or her in your life? I feel like I was asking a lot of questions during the making of the record that I still don't really have answers to, but at least some of the songs were exploring that territory."
In the interest of achieving a more cohesive sound for Midnight Room, Morgan reached out to producer Chris Coady, whose work with Future Islands, Beach House and The Orwells she'd admired. "To me, Chris's greatest gift as a producer is creating a sonic palette for an album that really brings their songs to life," she says. "I wanted the whole thing to feel like you're looking through a cobalt blue glass, and to get textures that almost feel like being able to see stars in the sky. I wanted it to have this very velvety midnight blue purity to the sound, and I feel like the synthesizers that we used and a lot of the guitar tones we used evoked that kind of visual texture."

You know the curious, almost out-of-body feeling you sometimes get when you wake up in the middle of the night, where everything seems a bit fuzzy and you're not sure if maybe you're still dreaming? It's a state Greta Morgan perpetually revisited during the second half of 2015, when she was writing and recording the new Springtime Carnivore album, Midnight Room. "I was on a really jagged sleep schedule," says the Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter, describing the months during which she worked on the follow-up to her critically adored 2014 debut. "It was the first time I'd ever lived by myself, and there was this bizarre feeling at night of the house being so quiet and being so totally alone. And Midnight Room came out of that."
Earlier in the year, Morgan went through one of those break-ups that completely topples your world. Though it was as amicable as those things can be, the twenty-eight year-old musician felt shattered. She began working on songs for Midnight Room during those strange waking interludes last summer, finding an abundance of beautiful melodies in the melancholy ether. "A lot of lyrics on the record are collaged or don't necessarily make sense next to each other," she says. "But I guess my whole headspace was like that for a few months. I felt like I couldn't trust my memory completely -- like i was space cadeting through the weird space between sleeping and dreaming and waking and reality."
The melodies came easily, but the words were initially harder to find. So she tried a new approach for Midnight Room's lyrics, inspired by her own disjointed thinking during those months. When an intriguing phrase or evocative image occurred to her, she wrote it down on a piece of index card. Sitting with the dozens of scraps on the floor in front of her, Morgan would rearrange the fragments until she found a way to make sense of it all. "A lot of the themes are, like, 'How do you lovingly change a relationship?,'" she says. "How do you say good-bye to someone in a certain way and still keep him or her in your life? I feel like I was asking a lot of questions during the making of the record that I still don't really have answers to, but at least some of the songs were exploring that territory."
In the interest of achieving a more cohesive sound for Midnight Room, Morgan reached out to producer Chris Coady, whose work with Future Islands, Beach House and The Orwells she'd admired. "To me, Chris's greatest gift as a producer is creating a sonic palette for an album that really brings their songs to life," she says. "I wanted the whole thing to feel like you're looking through a cobalt blue glass, and to get textures that almost feel like being able to see stars in the sky. I wanted it to have this very velvety midnight blue purity to the sound, and I feel like the synthesizers that we used and a lot of the guitar tones we used evoked that kind of visual texture."
