THE RISE AND FALL OF A MIDWEST PRINCESS
“With the release of her 2023 album The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, Chappell Roan became the 2020s most exciting pop star.” - NPR
“Roan is the pop heroine America needs.” - TIME
“Chappell is bringing the fun back—and her debut album does it in a distinctive, fresh way.” - VOGUE
To round out a monumental 2024, Midwestern icon, bona fide pop star and queer hero Chappell Roan earns a sweeping 6 total Grammy nominations for her debut album The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, released via Amusement / Island Records. Earning nominations for Best New Artist, Song of the Year, Record of the Year, Album of the Year, Best Pop Vocal Album and Best Pop Solo Performance, Roan is an undeniable icon and force to be reckoned with — her peers agree.
Proven as such with recent standout live performances at The MTV VMA’s, where she won an award for Best New Artist, Saturday Night Live, The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, NPR’s Tiny Desk, and more, Chappell Roan is a musical powerhouse with an unstoppable trajectory, also highlighted with recent viral moments from a cover story with Rolling Stone and a conversation with Bowen Yang for Interview Magazine. Hailed by Billboard for being “a powerhouse vocalist with a potent stage presence,” Chappell Roan completed an incredible run of shows in 2024, captivating audiences across North America while supporting Grammy-winning pop super star Olivia Rodrigo on her GUTS World Tour and headlining sold out dates at her sought-after solo performances. Over the summer, Roan delivered an electrifying lineup of performances, breaking audience records at touchstone music festivals such as Coachella, Governors Ball, Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, and more.
Over the past year, Chappell Roan catapulted into stardom, releasing her highly-anticipated debut album The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess–earning her praise, critical acclaim, and inclusion on the Best Albums of 2023 lists from Variety, Rolling Stone, Billboard, The Atlantic, Time, VOGUE, and many more. TeenVogue’s “pop star for the ages” wrapped her first sold out headline Midwest Princess Tour, selling out major cities across the U.S. and Canada. Every tour stop had its own unique theme (like “My Kink Is Karma,” “homecoming dance”) and incorporated opening sets from local drag queens. Roan’s shows have earned universal praise for her captivating performances, creating “a safe space…for self-expression,” and housing an unforgettable show riddled with “vaudevillian antics and pop-royalty-level confidence.”
With bold hooks, powerhouse vocals, and theatrical flair Chappell Roan has continued building a cult-like fanbase over the past year across releases like the booming, dance floor-ready “Red Wine Supernova”, her breathtaking self-written ballad “Kaleidoscope”, viral hit “Hot To Go” and last year’s cinematic fan favorite “Casual”. Her synth-pop smash breakthrough, 2020’s “Pink Pony Club” (co-written and produced by Daniel Nigro), set the tone for Chappell’s evolution into her own version of pop stardom: a small town rhinestone cowgirl delivering euphoric, heartfelt bangers, and a queer icon for a generation.

Les Rallizes Dénudés announces new archival release YaneUra Sept. ‘80 out Feb. 21 on Temporal Drift

Today, LA label Temporal Drift has announce a newly discovered, previously unknown
recording from Les Rallizes Dénudés - the album, YaneUra Sept. ‘80 will be released on Feb. 21, 2025. You can pre-order it now. It was recorded on September 11, 1980 at YaneUra in Shibuya, Tokyo, featuring guitarist Fujio Yamaguchi, formerly of proto-punk bad boys Murahachibu.
Also:
* Mixed and mastered from the original tapes by Rallizes member Makoto Kubota
* Official recording fully authorized by The Last One Musique
* Liner notes by Manabu Yuasa
* Available on “Galaxy Ice” color vinyl
While Les Rallizes Dénudés’ YaneUra Oct. ‘80 (DRFT13) was being prepared for release, a mysterious tape was unearthed. Discovered amid the piles of recordings left behind by frontman Takashi Mizutani, the undated cassette contained no recording info, and was referred to as “Unknown” during the archival process.
There was no mistaking the sound that was heard on the tape, however: the twin guitar interplay between Mizutani and Fujio Yamaguchi, the former Murahachibu guitarist whose addition to the Rallizes ushered in a new era for the band. This particularly clean recording was initially thought to be a forgotten studio recording, as corroborated by ex-members and others close to the band.
Ultimately, upon further research and meticulous listening, it was determined that the tape in fact contained a board recording of a set played at YaneUra in Shibuya, Tokyo, on September 11, 1980. The raw intensity of this performance feels far removed from the tight sound heard on YaneUra Oct. ‘80, which occurred just a month later.
Fittingly titled YaneUra Sept. ‘80, this album begins with “Flame of Ice,” which heats up considerably as the song reaches the middle point. Then, coming down like an avalanche are wilder than usual versions of “Reapers of the Night” and “The Night, Assassin’s Night,” followed by “The Last One.”
YaneUra Sept. ‘80 captures a flashpoint in the band’s Fujio-era lineup, which ultimately lasted only half a year or so. At the same time, it is bursting with the bottomless potential that the 1980s Les Rallizes Dénudés possessed deep within.

Midge Ure Releases Live Album Today + Cruel World Appearance

Midge talks about the recording: "This album was never meant to happen. The restrictions involved when playing a prestigious venue like the Royal Albert Hall were so great that recording audio or video was out of the question, or so I thought. Modern mixing desks have the capability to multitrack record these days so we tend to record most shows, so finding out we had a recording of that magical evening was a relief. A deal was struck with the venue and this is the result. A little moment captured forever."

Touché Amore comment: “There’s only a handful of records that are so singular and unique that few ever attempt to replicate. ‘The Shape of Punk to Come’ is the highest echelon of what’s being described. Over twenty years later this album stands alone, so, when Dennis approached us about covering a track, we knew we were up for the task. We chose the closing track because we heard elements of what TA could pull from to create a new song out of the foundation they had laid. Our instructions were to make it our own, and luckily with the song being so avant-garde and unique, we found it inviting. Thank you to Refused for the opportunity and to you for listening.”
Refused also unearth the previously unseen music video for “The Deadly Rhythm”: WATCH HERE

Artists On The Shape Of Punk To Come Obliterated
Walter Schreifels of Quicksand : “I’m honored that Quicksand was asked to be on this compilation. Liberation Frequency and The Shape Of Punk To Come are monuments to heavy music with a message and aesthetic that transcend the genre.”
Anaiah Lei of Zulu: “I’ve always been a Refused fan and even had the chance to tour with them back in 2012 with my old band. This record was definitely top 10 in my list of favorite hardcore albums and it was an honor to get to play a song off it. Especially this one because I’m like, y’all made this in the mid 90s? Way ahead of its time!”
Snapcase: "We were super excited when Refused asked us to take part in this project and it was a quick decision to choose Summerholidays vs Punkroutine. It’s collectively one of our favorite songs on the record and presented us with a unique challenge to get outside our comfort zone while mixing in elements of our own musical identity. Thanks for including us!"
Sami of Gel : “Refused was one of the first shows I went to and the first time I was up front. It was a charismatic performance and rowdy crowd and it definitely contributed to my love of heavier music and the live shows that demonstrate the energy of the music authentically.”

LEGENDARY ELECTRONIC DUO RECEIVE NODS IN HONOR OF HYPERDRAMA, THEIR FIRST ALBUM IN 8 YEARS

Justice Hyperdrama artwork by Thomas Jumin
French electronic standard-bearers Justice have been nominated for two Grammy Awards, including Best Dance/Electronic Album for Hyperdrama, the duo’s first new album in eight years, and Best Dance/Electronic Recording for “Neverender (feat. Tame Impala),” which just entered the top 25 at Alternative Radio. The announcement follows the band taking the award for Best International Tour at France’s NRJ Awards last week.
The nominations arrive on the heels Justice completing their massive sold out US tour, which included a sold out performance at Los Angeles’s iconic Hollywood Bowl that marked the band’s biggest North American headlining show to date. The duo initially unveiled their dazzling new live production at this year’s Coachella, which was the subject of a recent documentary. The show has gone on to yield rave reviews across the globe, including a five star review from Rolling Stone for their rapturously received Glastonbury set.

"It’s no surprise that Justice has largely outlasted some of their early peers, yet to produce a record this poignant and realized at this point only justifies their staying power.” - VARIETY
“Hyperdrama, a 13-track album with guest appearances by Miguel, Thundercat and Tame Impala, riffs on its longtime aesthetic — melodic hooks, funky bass lines, the occasional blown-out fuzzy beat — and stretches out in fresh ways.” - NEW YORK TIMES
"Its 13 tracks add new levels of warmth, brightness and sensuality to the group’s sound while marking the most psychedelic terrain of the Justice catalog thus far. No skips, no notes." - BILLBOARD
“Proof that they can evolve in tandem with the modern era without losing their grip on the idiosyncratic brand of pop retro-futurism that made them so beloved in the first place.” - RESIDENT ADVISOR
“Seventeen years after their debut with 2007’s Cross, Xavier de Rosnay and Gaspard Augé continue to push the boundaries of their established sound” - PAPER
“Jarring, ambitious, complex, and conceptual, Hyperdrama has Justice’s hallmark textures and layers but feels more sophisticated.” - SPIN
